Blah. Expensive, uneventful cafeteria food. Bummed. This was supposed to be a nice birthday dinner. The pico was blah, the guac was blah. We make more authentic food at home. If you aren’t interested in having good food and just want someone to cook for you, go ahead and try it.

Ordered by phone for pick up. The person on the other side of the line either wasn’t sure if the menu or thru recently changed it(but didn’t change it online). I called and he was very unsure of the type of chicken fajita I wanted. I got a fajita meal and a chalupa. The food was alright, a little bland. You do get s lot of food though. I will try again and update the rating if need be

3 stars for very quick and attentive service. The waitress was right there whenever we needed her. The food was standard«Buffalo Style» Mexican, which is not a compliment. Not to say the food was bad, it just did not rise up over the rest of the local Mexican pack. I had Enchilada Supremos, 4 enchiladas, beef, chicken, bean and cheese. Decent, but not West Coast style Mexican by any stretch of the imagination. A tiny spoonful of guacamole. Also, we kind of wanted to sit on the patio. Others were there but we were not asked if we wanted inside or outside. Not sure why that was, so we just took the quick seating inside near the entrance. Not bad, but we won’t go out of our way to return.

There is no hand soap in the restroom. However there is a dispenser affixed to the wall in the RR that has foul smelling watery solution. I’m assuming it’s hand sanitizer. Come on now Don Juans, let’s not find ways to save money at the customers expense.

Went there with a friend for dinner. Margaritas were delicious! We both ordered the combo platters choice of three and one side. I picked an enchilada, a quesadilla and a taco with a side of Spanish rice. The food was great, can’t find one thing wrong and talk about value! 12.99 for the combo! We ate at the bar and service was fast and good

Well been here few times and greeted at door by waiter or host, times we’ve visited. Food was great, hot and love the huge plates food is served on. During summer may stop in check it out since we were there during winter … El Cubilete in falls is another great place and so is El Ranchito in Clarence area on Main Street. On one of our stops we ran into Rex Ryan(coach of bills) eating here. Waited til he was done eating dinner and asked politely if he would take pic, which he obliged. Nice to see celebrity status doesn’t go to some people’s head. Ty Don Juan’s for great food and coach Ryan for pic.

Have driven by this place MANY times and have only recently stopped for lunch with co-workers based on one of their recommendations– normally I don’t trust ‘em with anything outside of our professional realm, but I was hungry. Walked in, were greeted kindly, seated immediately, and saw to frequently. The inside is very simple, clean, and accommodating. They had mega cheap drafts running, however my co-workers had to be all ‘professional’ and not pound some beers on our lunch break. The menu contains a good variety of mexican dishes– like dishes dishes– as in you’ll get a plate/platter of a meal for lunch; the kind you eat with a fork and knife. Staying true to what I know and love I ordered a chicken burrito and enjoyed every moment of it. Every plate that came to our table looked delicious and satisfying. Although our server insisted each plate was extremely hot I touched each one of them– I don’t know maybe I didn’t believe him or was feeling tough. It hurt. I’ll probably do it again in the future. Pricing, at least for the lunch menu we stuck to, was VERY reasonable and will bring me back when looking for a HOT lunch at a good value.

More like 3.5 stars. Let me preface this by saying my standards are different than most. This aimed to be tex-mex. I wanted this to be like the tex-mex in San Antonio. Was it good? Yes. Would I come here again? Sure. Would I rave about it… kind of??? Atmosphere is exactly like a great Mexican restaurant. Not fancy. Slightly tacky but festive décor, which is authentic for me. Tejano music piping over the speakers. Margarita? Good. Sugar on the rim though. I’m used to salt, but I do plan on coming back here for margaritas with friends. Food…the chips they brought out weren’t spectacular, but still very good. Salsa was pretty good, not chunky. Bean dip that came with it was the same I could make at home. We had chorizo dip. It’s like queso fundido. The cheese(maybe the brand?) was like canned white queso, maybe doctored up a bit. I had flautas. My flautas themselves were very good. Done well. The rice? Not good at all, sorry. Beans were good. My husband had cheese enchiladas. They didn’t skimp on cheese, but they weren’t cooked completely(cheese wasn’t melted in center), sauce was like it came out of a can. He felt the same about rice being subpar, but he felt the beans were flavorless. It was a lot of food. We never made it to dessert. Next time.

I’m always skeptical of Mexican restaurants outside of the Southwest/California, especially in the Northeast, and this place does not disappoint! Don Juan: you have my California seal of approval! We received excellent service from the moment we walked in to grab a table for lunch, and the lunch specials($ 6 – 8) are where it’s at! Feasts for almost nothing!!! Our bill came to around $ 60 for 5 people. I don’t know how Buffalonians would think of that, but it’s certainly a steal in most parts of the country! Anyway, the server was attentive yet noninvasive, there when we needed her and not when we didn’t. She even went to the trouble of using Google translator when she need to ask the cooks whether the retired beans are vegetarian for my vegetarian girlfriend. Very friendly, mildly conversational, very professional! Perfect service. The décor was bright and colorful without being tacky or racist haha! I ordered the chimichanga lunch special with black beans, and was happy to see that it arrived on a ginormous platter that I couldn’t even finish! The chimichangas were delicious and pleasantly spicy(mild to medium). The retried beans and Spanish rice were nostalgically good, and the cornerstone of any good special or platter! The guacamole salad in the middle was a new and welcome change to the obligatory dry salad that usually comes on a platter. Overall, it’s been a perfect Mexican restaurant experience, and would recommend it to anyone in town!

I’m giving Don Juan’s a 5-star for Buffalo. Mostly because, you’re not going to get better Mexican in Buffalo, especially at the price! Located in South Buffalo(a traditionally Irish part of town), I was a bit skeptical of how«Mexican» it would taste, but my family(who frequently visits me in Los Angeles) swear by this place so we decided to go for lunch. First I’ll tackle the service. Our waitress was tentative, and everything you’d expect a waitress to be. She also went above and beyond for me! I asked her if there was lard in the refried beans, because I am a vegetarian. She had no idea, all of the cooks spoke no English, and Google translate wouldn’t have worked because she said they spoke very broken Spanish. So she texted the manager, who was out of town on vacation. He quickly responded with a reply that there is not lard in their refried beans(good tip for all veg-heads). She could’ve easily lied to me, but she chose to be a good person and check for me. I greatly appreciated that. The food is no joke here! The lunch prices average around $ 7 – 8.00, but the portions are crazy huge! I got the cheese enchilada, a black bean taco(yay, black beans!!!), with rice and refried beans. Everything was delicious… well I don’t know about the enchilada because I took it to-go with most of my food because I was full on free chips, salsa, and refried beans(but I’m sure the enchilada is just as good as everything else). Overall, I love this place. It’s everything you expect from a little Mexican restaurant, so I’ll definitely be returning.

Got a fairly large take out order last evening and surprisingly all was there! A feat in it’s own! I enjoyed my veggie quesadilla which came with rice, beans and guacamole salad. I also tried the carne asada which was delightful! As far as being authentic it’s tough to say since Mexican food is far more regional. I felt the pricing was fair given the portion size. I ordered the chicken rice soup in addition to my entrée and was surprised at how huge the container was and how jam packed with chunks of chicken. It also contained avocado — a fave of mine! My only concern, not a complaint, is that the quesadilla had a large amount of broccoli crowns and zucchini wedges in it. I generally don’t think of these two veggies as being associated with Mexican cuisine but I assume the chef is making use of local surplus veggies. Not a bad thing. Good food and close to home!

This place is THEBEST! Having just moved to Buffalo from Southern California, we’ve been searching high and low for authentic Mexican food and we’ve finally found it! The server here immediately brings out chips, a carafe of salsa and a bowl of beans and cheese for dipping! Heaven! My boyfriend and I shared the Coronel burrito with steak and again, heaven! The food is reasonably priced and draft beers are a bargain. We’ll definitely be back!

Me and my wife were looking for some good Mexican for dinner and found this place close by so we decided to check it out. We ordered peach margarita’s and those were awesome. The free chips with bean dip and salsa was really good. For dinner I had the el Don Juan burrito with chicken, the flavor was amazing! This thing was big, you get what you pay for here. My wife had the beef jumbo burrito it was good but she didn’t love hers as much as I loved mine. The service was quick but our waitress was multitasking at the bar and was forgetting things, she was able to recover quickly. I think we will eat here again at least I would love to go back and try more of the menu. I don’t know if my wife liked enough to go back soon.

Excellent. Stopped in alone and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sat on the outdoor patio. Was greeted promptly and was served chips, salsa and a small dish of refried beans. The servers were friendly. They had several choices of bottled hot sauces including my favs El Yucatan, Tapatio, and Cholulo. Ordered the Carne Asada platter and to my delight they serve beer, so I ordered a Negra Modelo. The food was frickin delicious. The steak was tasty, a little tough, but for the reasonable price I wasn’t expecting a Delmonico. The sides on the plate were all good including the roasted jalapeño, nice touch. If I’m in the area ever again… I’ll be back.

Before you read this you have to know this really had no reflection on the food but the service we have received as this was the third time we ordered lunch for our office right down the road. The highlight of this place is that they serve some very authentic Mexican that is delicious and very big portions. Of we do go back it will be for the food. The first time we ordered or tried to order back in May 5. As this was cinco ‘s mayo but when someone answered to take our order and told us they didn’t need our business and hung up. Second time we ordered the phone numbers that were online were incorrect. Food was delicious and order was correct. Today we ordered and again they didn’t answer the phone and when we got there they stated that the phone was locked in the office and they couldn’t answer it. Then to make things worse they got our order wrong and we had to go back to get the rest of our order. But as stated food was excellent. It looked quite busy at the restaurant as well. My suggestion is that they get more workers for the lunch crowd so they don’t lose business. This is the time they need to keep their patrons coming back to keep their business growing. We will be back but once they start answering the phone for lunch orders.

The one star is for their bean dip that they give you with their chips, everything else from the food to the service was horrible. I had high hopes for this place because of all the good reviews. But I was let down. Four of us dined here on a Saturday night at 8pm. They were busy, but there was no wait. We were seating right away. As soon as we sat, a women wanted our drink order. She was asking as I was sitting, I asked her to give us a minute since we have never been and didn’t know what they had to offer. She rattled off their margarita flavors and draft beers. We decided to go with some margaritas on the rocks. 3 strawberry and 1 regular, the 1 strawberry was supposed to have no salt. They made all 3 with salt and didn’t put salt on the regular one. You can tell this women was so confused. She then said our server would be over, the way she was acting, I though she was our server?!? Anyway, our server came over and we ordered. When our food came out, mine was the wrong entrée. I ordered pork carnitas and she wrote it in as something else. All the food was very underwhelming. We have all had much better Mexican than the food were are here. My chucks of pork were tough and fatty. We decided to get some desert. Deep fried ice cream is my husbands favorite desert. He and a friend ordered that and I ordered the churos. I only ate about a quarter of 1 churo, they give you 3. They were very bland and just tasted like grease. The deep fried ice cream also was a let down. We were all very disappointed and know that we will never return here. There are much better Mexican restaurants in wny.

Sometimes, the Mexican restaurants I choose have to do with the proximity to a Walmart(free camping.) This place, not too far off of interstate 90, is small and unassuming, and appears to be set in what used to be a small business or house. As of this writing it has only been open for five weeks. I love places like that! Parking lot was full, always a good sign, lots of patio seating outside. And inside the small restaurant, lots of folks were enjoying their meals. I enjoyed a margarita at the bar while I waited and the bartender was awesome. The drink was pretty good. Upon being seated, chips came with an awesome bean and cheese dip that was amazing. Atmosphere is very nice with loads of great Mexican music to compliment your meal. I had the Fajitas Gonzalez which has grilled chicken, steak, shrimp and chorizo cooked with grilled onions, covered in queso, served on a sizzling stone bowl with pico, Mexican rice and beans. Dude, they should advertise this entrée as a meal for two because there is an awesome amount of food in this particular portion. Super tasty, great presentation, great service, I am absolutely in Mexi-freakin’-heaven. If these folks are just starting out, then they are starting off on the right foot. So, if you’re coming through the Buffalo area, and are hankering for some Mexican food, do not hesitate to drop in to this joint. Great beginnings are tasty indeed.

Great Mexican place in the burbs. Small inside, only 6 tables in the dining area but a big bar and a few more tables in the bar area. It looks like they are remodeling the outside to include a nice patio for the summer. Very friendly staff, good service and if you go away hungry from here, somethings wrong, the portions are big! Chips are brought out right away along with the traditional salsa for dipping but ALSO, a bean dip/queso which was delicious. The tacos, burritos, beans, rice… all fantastic, served hot and fresh. Service was great and the prices are very reasonable. I cant wait to return!
