ok. love, love LOVE. It’s northern Chinese, so a lot of dumplings abound. Fried and steamed. YUM. They also have a special menu on the wall. We always ask about it. The lamb they had was too fatty for our liking, but the cucumber/shrimp… so delicious! free hot tea in a tiny Styrofoam cup. Lots of dumplings. I suggest over ordering because they’re not HUGE portions, but a good size. The soups were good too. Nothing seems overly spicy, but the flavors are good. I’m not that big into Chinese food and even I love coming here! Yes, it’s a small place, but we always seem to find a seat.

Everything i have had has been excellent but have been surprised by not always getting what i thought i was ordering. Like my most recent order that included the mala cabbage and pork– it was more of a soup. Its under the stirfry dishes so i was not expecting 2 quarts of sauce/broth and pork, noodles etc. This has happened a couple times but that being said, it has never disappointed. Ive really liked everything ive ordered, especially the dumplings. I also wish they took credit but its worth it regardless.

It’s a northern Chinese food place which is rare in buffalo. Almost can be called authentic to me. Don’t expect Americanized Chinese food, because this is close to what Chinese people would cook and eat at their home or city in northern China. It’s normal for the food to be scarier, starchy and rich. So if you are used to local takeouts don’t expect the same here, because most takeouts are Americanized southern Chinese food. And if you give them a 1 star because you didn’t get your orange chicken it’s just not fair to them. Also traditionally, Chinese do not eat while drinking ice cold water, so they provide hot water and tea, but if you want cold water, which is not good for digestion anyway, you pay for the bottle water here. Things are simple but enough here, staffs are friendly food came quick too. The bums and noodle are they own handmade, instead of frozen or store purchased. Not a 5 star only because in attempt to be an Authentic northern taste place they still has to compromise on the taste by reducing certain necessary ingredient. The cost is the taste of the food itself. Well, While in Rome, do the roman things I guess.

I went here last night with five other people. Three of us thought it was pretty unremarkable and three liked it. The people are friendly, the lighting is fluorescent, and there are about 28 seats. I liked the fried dumplings with egg and leek best. Four huge dumplings filled with scallions and egg. Scallions may be in the leek family, but I don’t think they are leeks, exactly. There seemed to be only two vegetables on the entire menu(always a downer for me): bok choy and scallions. Everything else was either protein or starch.(They also charge you extra for a small order of rice.) My clams with vegetables dish was full of sandy clams, a half a dozen pieces of bok choy, and some red pepper flakes for heat. The sauce itself was thickened with cornstarch and quite bland. The dumplings I ordered were stuffed with pork, bits of shrimp, and scallions. Considering I thought I was ordering shrimp and leek filled dumplings I was not overjoyed. They don’t give you water, so you have to order a bottle if you want that, though there is free tea. I doubt I will be going back since $ 22 for my meal seemed like a waste of money when I can get delicious food for less elsewhere.

Home Taste is actually the same family that started up Peking Quick One. They specialize in Northern Chinese cuisine, which can be spicier if you’re not into that. They are cash only. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant, or you can park on the street, or there’s a hair salon at the corner with a lot. It is also a small place, so not very good for crowds and the best way to ensure seating is to call ahead. With all of that being said, I can see where Home Taste will easily become a default favorite place. All the workers are very nice, and often want your input as to how they can make your meal enjoyable. The décor is about half a step up from your regular Chinese take out place. They have a giant pot by the counter with hot water and tea packets that are free. Cold beverages are available as well, and you pay for it in the end. My favorite dishes from Home Taste is any fried dumpling dish, along with the braised chicken. It’s pricier than other dishes but it easily feeds 3 – 4 people. The only downfall is that there are bones to work around, but they use mostly drum sticks so it’s not too bad. Remember to ask for their house special dumpling sauce! They usually only give it with steamed dumplings but I like it with the fried ones as well!

5 stars. Nothing more need be said because I don’t want the place to be too crowded when I go there.

I used to work around the corner from this place when it was an American Chinese restaurant, so we’d passed it by a few times but didn’t think to try it out. The previous place had gone through a few name changes, so I thought nothing of the new name. Turns out, it’s a completely different restaurant now, with delicious not American Chinese food! Win. So, we got the spicy braised beef noodles. This is going to sound odd, I didn’t care for the way the beef was cooked. I’ll be ordering this again. The noodles and broth was excellent, and the beef added a good flavour to it, even if I didn’t care for the cooking method. We also tried the spicy chicken. It was really good. I think I could have made a meal on just that, but I was eating with two other people and that would have been rude, hehe. The last dish we ordered was an eggplant in brown sauce dish. The eggplant was cooked differently than other home style places, but it was really good. I didn’t know that it came with pork, though, which is something I can’t eat. But the eggplant was delicious otherwise. So next time 不要肉, hehe. Rice doesn’t come with all the dishes, but a side is cheap. Oh, and I didn’t pay(stars never do: p), but I was informed it’s cash only. So bring cash!

Had dinner there with a few friends, food is flavorful, portions are large and service is quick. This is an authentic no frills Chinese restaurant complete with cash only payment and fetch your own drinks. I highly recommend coming here, and I forsee myself coming here alone to spend some quality time with a plate of those delicious pork and cabbage dumplings.

I would like to give 4.6 if I can. Want authentic Chinese food? You found the place. According to my own experience and the opinions of my friends from northeast China, to be objective, they make authentic northern Chinese food right. Here’s what we get every time: Chicken cubes with cayenne pepper Pork with preserved vegetable Homemade sour Nappa in hotpot Sliced beef tendon For their steam buns and dumplings, some of our friends love them. But not my husband and I. The reasons? The only thing I can say is, that’s not the way our moms cook it. We love our way better. But who knows. I used to hate root beer several years before. Now it’s my favorite drink besides birch beer.

Fresh, delicious, unique, authentic. This place has it all. Check it out if you can get a seat. It’s probably not a bad idea to order takeout on weekends, as this place is always packed.

I am only giving Home Taste 3 stars instead of 4 because they forgot one of the entrees in our take out order :-(I was impressed that this restaurant isn’t the typical american greasy MSG infused version of Chinese food. We had pork dumplings and the northwestern vegetable noodles. Both were delicious. I really liked the noodles they use. From what the other review says, they are homemade and taste like it.

Very delicious. I had a simple lunch of steamed fish dumplings and stir fried bok choy. Both of these items were hot, flavorful, and well prepared. The service was excellent. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their offerings.

5 Stars because if you love authentic Chinese food, you should try Home Taste. Only seats 28 people –if each table of 4 is filled at once. HOMETASTE is a fairly new Chinese restaurant, specializing in homemade noodles and some dishes popular in the proprietor/cook’s home town of Qichon(?)(possible Qishan County). We did bring home some of the beef and pork noodle bowl, one of the leek and lemon grass dumplings, as well as a surprise for Ron: an order of 4 steamed pork buns. We were warned that they were quite large, but we were not prepared for grapefruit-size buns… jaw-dropping. The prices were very reasonable and the food was delicious. There is a kind of native pepper in the noodle bowl, as the proprietor tried to explain, that numbs one side of the tongue. Was a strange sensation, and did not last long, but in retrospect was intriguing and pleasant. We will definitely go back. The noodles were excellent and there are so many items yet to try.

I had heard there was a new Chinese spot near Sheridan on Delaware. It’s a tiny spot with street parking. 6 or 7 tables. Manned by a couple only as far as I have seen. Wife is front of house, husband does the cooking, you can see him through a glass window, nice touch. It’s been busy when I have been. Both take out and eat in. The BN article will probably increase that traffic. It’s a smaller menu, which I can appreciate. Make a few things well. Don’t overwhelm the customers. They offer free tea in a large pot. Just take some. Otherwise it’s no frills. Sauces on the table to use as you choose. They don’t come with takeout, so get some when you are there. We have had dumplings and scallion bread. Yum. Yum. Both have travelled well and reheated later in the day well. The dumplings are hand made I believe. They certainly taste as if they are just made. Cash only. Come prepared. No ATM.
