I’m incredibly grateful to have India Gate just 10 blocks from my house. My boyfriend and I have been going about once a week. :) My favorite time to go is Friday nights because they’ll often have a live sitar player who is super good! Here’s a video that displays some of his awesome talent! :D What I especially love about India Gate is that they are willing to cater to your spice preferences(mild, medium, hot, India hot). If you’re not a fan of spicy, I definitely recommend ordering mild. It won’t be hot, but it will still have a ton of flavor. If you do like spice, I recommend ordering medium and slowly working your way up. At the same time, you can always order the spice on the side if you’re really not sure. :) Both my boyfriend and I love spice, so we usually get as an appetizer their Paneer Chili. Oh it’s so good! They make their own paneer in house, and the spice gives it that extra kick. :) Another favorite is ordering their Tandoori Roti along with our meal. It is a whole wheat flatbread that they bake in their clay oven. Every meal comes with free basmati rice, but I love being able to fill the bread with my okra or chickpeas. There is something about that experience that just feels so comforting. Not to mention you can fold the bread with the stuff inside and it’s like you’re eating a taco! :D The best thing I’ve ever had is their Makhani. When you order it you have your choice of chicken, shrimp, vegetable, fish, tofu, lamb, paneer, or scallop! The options are endless! :D Makhani is this butter cream sauce with cashew and raisins. It’s just divine! I love ordering mine spicy, because you have the richness of the sauce, complimenting the sweetness of the cashews and raisins, and spiciness of the chili, and the savoriness of the meat. It’s flavor explosion in every bite! Your meal also comes with Raita, which is a housemade yogurt with cucumber and tomato. So you can also add that for some added richness. Yum! I also strongly recommend their drinks. I almost always order their hot Chai. It’s so good, and the spices in the chai perfectly compliment your meal. If you’re looking for something extra yummy, I strongly recommend their Fig Lassi. It is the best lassi I’ve ever had in my life! If you don’t know, lassi is an Indian yogurt drink that is sweet, much like kefir. They also have Indian beers, which I can’t vouch for, but that is super neat because where else besides going to India are you going to get Indian beer? :) All in all, India Gate is definitely in my Top 5 favorite restaurants in Buffalo. The food is great, the service is great, and the music is great too!

BESTINDIANFOOD I’VEEVERHAD. Went there with my mom for lunch and got their buffet. Both of us tried some different things and everything we had was so delicious that we tried and got seconds of almost everything. As the chicken legs are concerned, I have no idea what they do to them to make them so good but it is on my list of best chicken I’ve ever had. My mom thought it was so good that she even got some take out of a little bit of everything for my step dad! Now my go to Indian restaurant when I’m craving!

India Gate is one of my go-to spots for city dining, especially with groups. As a vegetarian, there are always plenty of good picks for me – and all my omnivore friends have great choices, too. There’s something for everyone. The dining room is not especially fancy, but it’s clean, comfortable, and decorated with a few Indian art pieces. The seating area is relatively large, but it can fill up quickly at peak times, especially on nights when they run their dinner buffet. We’ve always found the servers to be quite good – quick, friendly, and able to answer any questions. If you’re looking for New Year’s Eve plans, I highly suggest India Gate’s special NYE Buffet Event. It’s an annual tradition for me and some friends. The buffet doubles in size, packed with delicious non-menu special items, piles of colorful Indian sweets, and more. Belly-dancers meander the room, adding to the fun and festivity.(But make a reservation for this one – it always sells out!)

I frequently eat here and love it. Would recommend to everyone. Staff is extremely nice and food is always great. Prices are appropriate for portion size. Tonight I attended their New Years Eve buffet, which was busy but worth the wait. Excellent buffet selection.

I have traveled the whole world and I still think India Gate is some of the best indian I have ever had. If you are not faint-hearted, order it super hot or «Indian hot» and you will not be disappointed. GREAT staff and owners. I literally cannot think of one bad thing to say about their food here. Also– the buffet is The Truth.

Under new management. Still a solid buffet with lots of choices for vegetarians. Steadily improving under new management.

With so many Indian restaurants, it’s sometimes difficult to compete. India Gate, I remember, is a good place with a good buffet, food, and service. But the past few times I’ve been, the food has been mediocre at best. It’s still good Indian food, don’t get me wrong. But when I order a 5, I expect things to be spicy. Things aren’t as flavorful as they are at other places. I think this, in part, is that I always seem to end up there on off-hours — when there are one or two other tables occupied. It seems like a surprise to get customers, even though they have a great location. Good for lunch or dinner — the buffet is probably something to aim for. That’s usually quite good and they have a high turn around, so the buffet is usually fresh foods.

By far the best Indian food I have ever had. I love that they give such a generous portion of rice and every dish I have ever gotten from here has been amazing. The chicken makyani is my favorite dish here though! Definitely a must try! I’m so bummed I have to drive 30 mins to get there now, but the Indian restaurants around here pale in comparison. It’s definitely worth the drive!

We stopped in here for dinner on a Monday evening. There were 6 people seated in the dining room so we figured the place was having a slow night and the service would be prompt… boy were we wrong! There were seemingly only 2 people answering the phone, bagging to go orders, bussing tables and serving food. It took around 5 minutes to be greeted at the table and the greeting certainly was not very inviting to say the least. First words uttered to us were«ready to order?» Besides the service being terrible, the food honestly just was not that good. I ordered the Goat Curry and my girlfriend ordered the Tandoori Dinner… the food was bland! Yes, I said it, the INDIANFOOD was bland?! I was shocked by the lack of flavor present in anything we ordered. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the garlic naan was excellent. Yup, they get a whole star for good bread. Other than that, nothing impressive here.

Oh-Em-Gee! INDIANBUFFETLUNCH and ONLY $ 10! Wow, we stepped into the restaurant and were immediately greeted with the warm scent of various Indian spices. The waiter told we could sit wherever we’d like and gave us menus once we were seated. We decided to get the buffet so we can try everything. The warm chai tea was delicious and helped cleanse the palette whenever I decided to try something new. They also had a mango smoothie available that my boyfriend said was very sweet. The buffet had various food options for both vegetarians and meat-lovers. There was even some lightly fried fish available. Regular/Garlic Naan is also provided with the buffet. I sampled almost everything and had to struggle to get through seconds. The goat curry was my favorite! Don’t forget to make room for desert! I love eating the rice pudding and mixing in the Gulab Jamun. Thank you to the waiter for topping off our water and to the chefs for preparing such amazing food.

Really nice Indian restaurant that offers a lunch buffet everyday from 11:30AM to 2:30PM for $ 9.95 and even a dinner buffet on Wednesday nights. Everything is really good and well prepared. Their makhani dishes are absolutely amazing and loaded with flavor. Their Tandoori chicken and their curry are pretty good too. Its all pretty good. My one complaint is that their Naan seems to come out too well done and more crispy then I would like. If you come during a time when they are not doing the buffet they have a pretty expansive menu to order off of. I wanted to say that my parents are real big into the Chinese buffets with tons of different tables with lots of options but mostly low quality options are found at these kinds of buffets. I’ve been to tons of Chinese buffets and they’re all pretty much like that. At India Gate their buffet doesn’t have a massive selection but all of the options they do have are loaded with flavor and have been made with care. Note: India Gate is owned by the same people who own Taste of India on Sheridan in Amherst. Their menus and recipes are the exact same so if you’ve been to one you’ve been to both.

I was here yesterday for dinner with 5 other companions. I think I have been here before, a long time ago, when I was still living in Buffalo. Anyway, we were in one circular table. The service was okay, but definitely can be improved. For example, the waiting time to get our orders taken was definitely longer than usual. We had to ask for it twice. The food was okay. Good, tasty, but given that Buffalo actually has plenty of Indian restaurants, this place doesn’t have the additional oomph to set it apart from the numerous competition. In other words, I don’t see anything special in their menu that the other Indian restaurants don’t have. The restroom for male customers was lit in candlelight. I guess the real lighting was broken. I don’t mind coming back here again, but definitely I could say that there are plenty of other better places in Buffalo to get Indian food.

Lunch buffet here on a Saturday was only $ 10. They had a large selection of curries. I only tried the saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala which were both tasty and flavorful. Their garlic naan that they give you in the beginning was pretty good. It was a little crisp and the garlic flavor. yuummmmm. I also really enjoyed their rice pudding and mango lassi. The décor was very dated and the cleanliness might be a little questionable. But still not bad for $ 10! Also, the service was good and everyone was friendly.

For the past week there’s been an itch in the back of my mind for Indian food. The whole thing started when my friend asked me where to go for Indian because. I Unilocal… and that instantly makes any person an expert on food and food places. Well, I didn’t have an answer so I started asking around. And India Gate came up a few times. Coincidentally my roommates wanted Indian… so Roommate date night was born. We went to India Gate. And even better? It was buffet night. We got menus anyways and since everything on the menu was around the same price as the buffet.(~$ 14) we just opted to all do the buffet so we could have more of a selection. I tried everything. The dishes were very flavorful and wonderful tasting. Nothing had any heat or spiciness though which to me was kind of disappointing. They did have a really bland«hot sauce» at the end of the buffet table but it looked like pepper seeds in marinara sauce and tasted like nothing. But that shouldn’t discourage you! The food here is great with a pretty wide selection and, of course, very vegetarian friendly. Oh and their dessert choices were inSANE. I had no idea what i was doing. So, it was a lot of getting little bits of everything especially the mango chutney. I love the mango chutney. I want to take it to other restaurants and make other mango chutneys jealous. I want to take the mango chutney home and make it dinner. Then marry the mango chutney. If it seems weird the amount of times I’ve said mango chutney… you know what it was like to be my room mates last night because I wouldn’t shut up about the mango chutney.

The food here is phenomenal. The atmosphere is la little off. I do not know a great deal about Indian cuisine, but this was the best I’ve ever tasted. We split saag naan to start and it was amazing. The specialty naan dishes come with dipping sauces– a unique and spicy pickled one and a sweet one. I had bhartha saag, a delicious dish of spinach, eggplant and spices cooked down and served with rice and a smooth yogurt sauce if you ask for it. My date had chicken kachmiri and despite being a vegetarian, I tried a little taste and definitely approve! Although this restaurant has a great spot on Elmwood Avenue, the interior is a little stale. In addition, it took a long while for our food to come out. The music was very low and kept stopping, so our conversation was drowned out by the voices of everyone around us, including constantly banging pots and pans from the kitchen. They seem to do a great take out business as I witnessed many people coming and going during my meal. They also seem to have a pretty solid group of regulars– surely a good sign.

The food here is completely worthy of 5 stars. By far, my favorite Indian in Buffalo. All of their Indian breads are delicious, with a variety of sides for dipping. The menu is huge and everything is fantastic. Their mild curry sauce is my favorite. If you’ve never tried Indian, I would recommend starting with the Chicken Kashmiri. Don’t be afraid to ask for extra rice! The only reason I am subtracting a star is because the ambiance leaves something to be desired. This restaurant has been here for I would guess 10 years. Yet no improvements appear to have been made. The décor is lacking and haphazard. The booths are outdated and cheap(not to mention lacking in padding — don’t sit down quickly, it’s not pleasant!). The background music(while perfectly authentic and VERY enjoyable) is inconsistent and a little too quiet. The music would sometimes finish and we were left in near silence for minutes at a time. This was awkward, as we could hear the conversations from everyone in the entire restaurant. With a face lift, this restaurant could be one of the best in Buffalo. The food is perfect and not to be missed.

Ordered take out for the first time from here this week. What we ordered: –Chicken Makhani(2 orders) –Shrimp Malai –Beef Madrasi *all came with rice and we ordered naan The food was excellent. The flavors were out of this world. It ended up being enough for 4 people to share with a little leftover. The only downside, it was extremely expensive for take out. The total was almost $ 70.00 for 4 people. Not your typical, cheap, takeout cuisine. I also thought for the price that the servings would be a lot larger and we would have a ton of food leftover, but that wasn’t the case. 5 stars — food 2 stars — price

India Gate is usually my go-to Indian restaurant in Buffalo. They make a mean Tofu Makhani(or chicken, depending on how vegetarian I’m feeling at the time) that I would probably choose as my last meal if I were on death row. The most recent time I went my friend had the Chicken Biryani, which was delicious. Portions are generous and I can usually make them into two meals… or for lots of sharing with great company! Their naan always comes out hot and smells amazing – make sure you get it with garlic. My mom and I went once while they had a buffet, which was really nice because we got to try a variety of options. The food wasn’t as high quality as they usually serve, but we also came late during the lunch special. You’ll never wait more than two minutes with an empty water glass. All of the servers I’ve encountered are very polite and the younger girl who works there is super friendly and sweet. I’m lucky to have a fair amount of self-control as this place is dangerously close to my work and I could see myself eating Chicken Makhani for lunch every day.

I happened to be in Buffalo this past Sunday and ate here for dinner with some close friends and had an overall delicious experience! We all shared the Onion Kulcha, Saag Paneer, Mild Chicken Curry, and Spicy Chicken Muglai, and everything came out really flavorful. For me, surprisingly, the Chicken Curry ended up being the best of all three. The sauce was intensely flavored with those accents you associate with Indian cuisine and it totally lit up my taste buds. Just putting a little bit of that chicken on some of the bread with the rice and yogurt sauce made for one heck of a killer bite — yum to the extreme! If i were to knock them for anything, it’s that the«Spicy» Chicken Muglai was not in the least bit spicy at all. It tasted about as mild as you get. The flavors of the ginger, nut, and cream were there, but I expected some heat either from chiles or spices and it just didn’t quite connect. I’m not sure if the waitress wrote it down wrong, they don’t know how to spice things properly, or if they were taming it to American taste buds but the lack of intensity and heat was a touch disappointing. All of that aside though, the meal was still very flavorful, seasoned well, and the proteins were moist and succulent so I really can’t complain! Would happily visit them again.

Was my first time ordering delivery from them and I was pretty impressed, although I’d love if they would increase their portion size and/or lower their price and work out a few kinks. It cost $ 30 + tip to have Chicken Tikka Masala along with a vegetarian entrée delivered. The delivery didn’t include any forks, spoons or napkins, so they lost a few points for that. The portion of chicken was OK, but I expected a little more. The containers they use for the entrée are pretty small and it was served with a heap of rice(way more rice was provided then could reasonably be mixed with the entrée). The person who took my order on the phone also didn’t let me know about the delivery fee and said my order would come to around $ 24 when I ordered, so I was surprised to be signing a credit card receipt for over $ 30 when the delivery guy came to my house. Aside from that, the food was delicious. Piping hot, fresh, well spiced. Not overly salted and a lot of flavor. They ask for you to place a minimum of $ 25 before tax for delivery, so be aware of that. If you’re feeling lazy and want some tasty Indian food delivered, India Gate does a pretty good job in Elmwood Village!
