A little piece of the UK right here in Buffalo! Love that I can get all my English treats like jelly babies and scones with cream and Cornish pies!

A unique place. Great beer selection. Pies are delicious, fried things take too long– they need another fryer. Other thank this– just awesome and delicious!!!

If your used to a Buffalo fish fry and are expecting something great… I would not waste my money. Very disappointed and would not try again. If this is «great in England» maybe some one should open up a joint and serve a fish fry like you can get at so many different gin mills in this area… over there.

Interesting little place. We went in for a late lunch, about 2p. All they had were the fish & chips which are fried to order. We were told the rest of the menu wasn’t available because they didn’t have it or it wasn’t ready. The fish & chips were really good. Freshly fried and crispy. The fries could have been fried longer. Not much seating, just a few small tables. There was a steady stream of people coming and getting to-go orders while we were there.

Mmm … Mmm … Good. Had the best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic here. The cod and chips were expertly prepared. A light crispy batter, perfectly cooked cod that was clearly very fresh. The chips were classic British chippery. Light in color bit crispy and delicious. You can wash it down with a fine selection of imported British beers and ciders. I chose a Newcastle Brown. It to was fresh and tasty. The best place in Buffalo for your Fish and Chip fix.

Would not go back. Had the fish and chips. $ 13 The fish was a mouth full of grease. Fries were ok. It wasn’t very busy but the fryer has to be hotter. Lemon juice concentrate, tartar, malt vinegar, salt, and pepper were all in packets. Plastic silverware. Pitch bar in the rear of the building was nice, as was the bartender.

When they were the English Pork Pie Company, I first fell in love. I had a bite of a steak and ale pie and was instantly transported to the summer I was a nanny in a small village in the English countryside. Next came British Chippy and I could get proper British fish and chips: cod, not beer battered haddock. I was thrilled. Now, we have Parker’s. All of the same goodness with a new name and a growing empire. Today I introduced my parents to steak and ale and chicken tikka pies and the ever so delicious sausage rolls. My dad, normally stingy in his compliments about food, thanked me. There’s a new customer! Can I get a commission in the form of a meat pie? That’d be the best… Commission or not, I’ll be back soon. I promised my co-workers I’d introduce them to sausage rolls!

It’s not a tiny, but it’s not huge. That’s what she said. I guess you could describe it as a «Big-ish Chippy.» I have written a much more extensive two-part review, which can be seen if you read the older updates(from 7÷24÷14 — part one and 7÷25÷14 — part two). It contains a lot more info than this one does. This is mostly just for fun. What to get: Fish & Chips, Pork Pie, Sausage Roll, Steak & Kidney Pie, Curry Sauce. What else: have a chat with owners Damian & Vicky from Yorkshire, England, who are full of information and adorable. Tell them Fox sent you. Tell them you also dated Fox, and that the rumours about Fox giving you that nasty rash were just, well, rumours. So since the name of this place is «TSwift-ish Chippy», I thought I’d sing a song about when I went here in the middle of the night with my sexy boyfriend. «Pie» Midnight, sheriff wrote us up No headlights Long drive, to this Chippy on the South Side Vickie says«toodle-oo, it’s been a while since I have even heard from you» They should just tell us to leave cause they Don’t open til morning but they Watch us down every single pie You got that Yorkshire Damian look in your eye And I got that greasy-lipped, eating-fish thing that you like And when I’m done swallowing it down, I come back every time. Cause we never get tired of pie We never get tired of pie So it’s rude He can’t keep his wild eyes on the food He eats the most Lights are off, he’s got gravy on his coat Damian says I heard that you been out in New York trying other British stuff I said, what you’ve heard it’s true and I Tried«A Salt & Battery» and«Atlantic ChipShop» too but he He said«I’ve been there too a few times» I got that long hair, just brushed, Lennon t-shirt. And you got that good pie good chips with a vinegar squirt, And if you run out of chips, you can have some of mine. Cause we never get tired of pie We never get tired of pie OK enough of that. As I said before, a lot of the Chip Shops in England are, well, not that good anymore. The standards are slipping and the amazing stuff is getting harder to find, like a virgin in an English Middle School. However British Chippy, were it in England, would be one of the *very best* Chippys in the country. I can’t give it a higher compliment than that. This isn’t just authentic. This is the top end in terms of taste and preparation, of the real thing. They had a rough winter. It broke them. Hence the name the«Brittle Chippy.» I’m glad they came back stronger, like Linda Hamilton in T2. Yes the prices are a bit high, and that’s why I personally don’t come here more often. But if you like British Chip Shop food, this is *the* destination, not just in Buffalo, but in all of North America. And if you’re not sure whether you like it, or think you don’t, this is a great place to find out for sure, because it doesn’t get much better than this. If they’re sold out of whatever you want, don’t be surprised. After all, they’re not called the«Diminished Chippy» for nothing. I do wish more of their food was available hot more of the time. But whatever you get should be really good. To prevent dryness, always saturate your chips with salt and vinegar. Always get some curry sauce or gravy to dip them in. Try Pork Pies, Battered Fish, Sausage Rolls and Cornish Pasties, which are all amazing here. Especially the incredible pork pies. The owners are in fact from Yorkshire, but their heritage is from Helsinki(I have that suddenly sinki feeling), hence the name«Finnish Chippy.» Perhaps the star of the show is the Steak N Kidney Pie. It’s usually frozen though, so if they don’t have hot ones, you’ll have to take it home. Heat it in the oven on the highest setting for just a little while(15 – 20 min) and then you’ll find out what a real S & K pie is supposed to taste like. They’re, again, a little dry, so have some gravy on hand maybe. But the pastry is flaky and magnificent. Bravo. The employees are all rather tiny. This must by why it’s called the«Impish Chippy.» They actually imported all of their equipment from the UK, which might be why it’s so good. I’ve tried the ones in Canada, and the top name ones in New York, and none of them are even in the same league as British Chippy. WNY is so lucky to have this place and they don’t even know it. Make sure you come out here and try it at your earliest convenience. If you don’t like it, it may just be that you don’t like the staple of the British Isles. Me? I grew up with it, and having this here makes WNY feel a bit more like home. Having Damian around makes me feel a bit more homoerotic. Tingly down below. Except he’s married. The best ones always are. The owners get a little scared when I pull my pants down though, I can’t imagine why. For that reason, I call it the«Skittish Chippy.» After pulling down my pants, the cops usually soon arrive, which is why I call it the«Unable To Finish Chippy.» I’m fast, but not that fast.

With all these great reviews and this place being damn close to me I really wanted to like it but I was actually a bit disappointed with my order. Now maybe just maybe I don’t like British food and the old adage that it’s terrible rings true, but seriously I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Now I was ordering for the family and figured I would try a few things, so we got the battered cod, battered sausage, and one of their pies, all with chips. Now my first issue was with the chips, they cost about $ 5 extra with your meal and they came out luke warm, soft and bit mushy. Maybe that’s how the Brits like em but I wasn’t a fan. Oh and have them put some salt on if they ask. I declined and regretted it, had to add some at my house. The fish was OK but not so much an upgrade over a regular fish fry you can get elsewhere in Buffalo for a couple bucks cheaper, and that will at least come with hot fries and some cole slaw too. The sausage was tasty but at the price with the chips was $ 9.50, I would still be hungry if it was all I ordered. Also a bit to greasy for me. The pie was Peppered Steak that night(no choices, just what the pie of the day is). Again was tasty, but for $ 11 with the chips it was kind of small. Not sure what everyone else is raving about with this place. For $ 33 before tax for all three meals, my family was left hungry wishing there was more sausage or pie, with a pile of chips no one really wanted. I might stop back and just get some pies next time, but for this meal I thought it was kind of greasy and overpriced.

This place would be the ONLY reason I would Consider living in buffalo ny. The cod and chips I had was as good as any I’ve Had back home in England. Portions are huge as well, probably had enough For two of us but I managed to force myself To eat it all. It’s a pain that I live over 700 miles away. But then again if I live closer I’d probably be 400 lb.

In an effort to make my reviews more quantitatively substantive, I’ve designed an easy to administer, exhaustive five-prong approach I can utilize to properly calculate the appropriate Unilocal star rating of any establishment. Let’s put it into effect… BRITISHCHIPPY 1) Ability to make otherwise delicious food(i.e. cod fish, pork sausage) even more delicious by battering and deep frying it — Result — OBJECTIVESATISFIED 2) Baking traditional English meat & kidney pies, sometimes with Guiness-laden gravy, that melt in your mouth and make lovely jubbly in your hand — Result — OBJECTIVESATISFIED 3) Importing actual British frying oil, and making meals so authentic they are passed on as recommendations by at least one actual/former UK citizen I know of — Result — OBJECTIVESATISFIED 4) Hiring«The British Bulldog» Davey Boy Smith as a line cook, all while having him wear a t-shirt with either the phrase«Cheerio», «Keep Calm and Carry On» or «God Save The Queen» on it — Result — OBJECTIVENOTSATISFIED 5) Not once ever referring to me as a «bloody wanker» — Result — OBJECTIVESATISFIED So, there you have it… 4 out of 5 stars for British Chippy. Not too shabby. In their defense, however, I’m quite certain The British Bulldog has been dead for years now.

You can find a fish fry, and a pretty good one, at many places in Buffalo. Of that there is no doubt. Even Anderson’s, better known for roast beef and ice cream, has a good fish fry. So why spend more money($ 12 for fish and chips — fries) and wait(about 15 minutes on a moderately busy Friday lunch hour) at British Chippy? Because it is very good. They cook the fish and fries to order, which takes a little time but makes for very fresh food. They also use cod instead of haddock, which adds a little more cost. Nothing wrong with haddock — I have had it many times from other places and have enjoyed it. However, the cod raises the bar, It has the neutral, non-fishy flavor that haddock does, but it is less dry. Like the fish from Wholey’s in Pittsburgh, this is good food and worth taking a trip to. My wife, who likes fish — up to a point — really enjoyed the meal and finished the fish, which does not happen too many times. The meat pie also had some good flavor; like that of a nice pot roast. A few points: (1) The fish and chips meal is large enough that you can share with someone else, particularly if you order a pie or sausage roll to supplement the meal However, don’t feel bad if you want to eat the entire fish and chips meal. (2) The store lists a bunch of meat pies, but not all are served hot every day. You may have to try a different pie and /or take a frozen one home. I have not tried a frozen pie but see no reason to avoid doing so. (3) There appears to be no air conditioning, so eating outside on a warm day is probably more comfortable. A great place that I plan to return to in the neat future.

We were out and about, looking for somewhere interesting to try after not finding any appealing food truck options at Larking Square. I had this place bookmarked, so I figured why not check it out? This is a little service counter/deli type place, attached to the English Pork Pie factory. Inside, you’ll find all the accouterments of a British Fish & Chip shop(at least, if my teenager experience with the British expat fish and chip shop in my hometown is anything to go by.) I decided to opt for a Cornish Pasty, and Lee got the Fish, which IIRC was Haddock.(EDIT: I am an idiot and it was in fact COD.) Both were hot and excellent, the fish being nice and freshly fried. My pasty had been in the warmer for a while, but it was still delicious, showing no ill effects from being around. They have a lot of options on the menu, which is written all over the wall behind the counter. They also have some other authentic British sodas and snacks for sale, and you can pick up some of their meat pies to take home as well. My only complaint is in the winter there is only indoor seating, and there aren’t always enough chairs for the tables, so since someone had swiped a chair from one table, thr two of us had to sit at the counter. A couple of extra chairs could solve this easily. I’d definitely head here again to check out some of the other options!

This is quite the charming place in South Buffalo, offering exquisite fish and chips(cod), meat pies, and all sorts of British delicacies. This one of kind take out spot is quick and has dedicated service staff. While I was picking up my fish, I heard the store owner speak of opening up the back soccer field and developing some sort of restaurant/sporting venue. Ideal for those who love both soccer(football) and British food. This idea sort of reminded me of the South Buffalo version of Mesque. However, the British Chippy doesn’t have a liquor license yet. They also have rewards cards, so you can save up those points from each steak and ale pie or whatever your heart desires for a free one in the future. Looking forward to coming back to British Chippy soon, and hopefully this rumor develops further!

I love the British Chippy! Fish & Chips in the US the way it’s done back in the UK and Ireland? Yes! The overall experience here is pretty basic. British Chippy is located in an industrial section of Buffalo as part of a large warehouse(I guess this is a factory too). The experience is not all that different than what I experienced in Ireland — Walk in, order, grab food, go. There is a small seating area and picnic tables outside but it’s best to think of this as a take-out experience. Plenty of parking is a major bonus although I don’t see anybody really walking here. The fish itself? Excellent — Crispy deep fried battered cod. The chips are good although not up to the level I’ve had overseas. Aside from Fish & Chips you can also order frozen pork pies. Negatives? It’s best to not come late in the day as the fish in not made-to-order but left under a heat lamp. Also, it’s cod — I prefer haddock. But real fish and chips are supposed to be cod so it’s really an unfair criticism. A great little lunch spot a short drive from Larkinville. Definitely worth a try.

In the land of fish & chips, if there can be only one, this is it! Growing up in Western New York I’ve had more than my share of fish fries, but I was hoping for a different take on my battered aquatic friend when I visited«The British Chippy» in South Buffalo. I was not disappointed! In fact I was blown away! This small shop is part of the building that houses«The English Pie Company» and shares the same owners. I spent a few minutes speaking with Vicky and Damian who run everything and found them very pleasant and dedicated to creating the most authentic English experience possible. They’ve branched from the pie factory to the chip shop and are even in the process of building a football(soccer) stadium on the same property. Imagine watching a match eating a steak and kidney pie straight out of the oven! I had a generous portion of fried cod with chips splashed with salt and vinegar wrapped in paper. It’s how it’s served even if you plan to dine there. It was fresh, firm, flaky, and perfectly fried! I also ordered a couple of their frozen pies to take home. One thing to note when checking out the menu on the back wall is what’s fresh vs. frozen. The list of frozen pies(from the factory onsite) is longer than the list of items ready to eat. This is great because you can load up on all of your favorites to take home. Some people that came in were there simply to buy frozen pies to go. Not a bad idea!

Took my mom here yesterday for 97th Birthday to have the Traditional Fish and Chip since my mom is a WWII war bride from St. Ives Cornwall. Been back home so many time. This the best Fish and Chips I ever have since I been to England. The closest British style fish and chip is in a British or Irish Pub in Canada. Don’t got to many tables inside but if you go stop in and have fish and chip you don’t what you missey.

As far as fish & chips goes, this is the real deal! Granted, I’ve never been to England but I did live in Australia for 6 months and their cuisine comes straight from the land of the Queen! Chip Shops used to line the beach town where I lived. These paper wrapped packages are exactly like those in Oz. Brought me back to those days! This shop is located in basically the middle of nowhere. You can see the grain elevators far down and across the street. But the shop is adorbs. It’s quite simple but their offerings are plenty. Tons of savory pies, fried cod, chips, and other delicacies. My mom and I each got cod & chips. If I had it to do again, I would have gotten one cod and chips and one just cod. The portion is HUGE. Neither mom nor I finished our meal. I at least wanted to eat all of the fish but got way too full before I could finish many chips. It was awesome though. Delicious crispy batter, pleasant chips(more like steak fries– they aren’t crispy), beautiful white flaky fish. They have a small bottled drink selection. The interior is small. 2 small tables with 2 chairs each and slim side counter space with stools. There are several picnic tables outside though. I loved the top hat lamps above the counters. So cute! Will be back to get some pies and bring more family back for fish and chips!

If you’re looking for inexpensive unique food experiences without leaving the country, British Chippy deserves to be high on your list. The British Chippy transports you to England in the midst of an off-the-beaten path factory(or what is it?) in South Buffalo. It is a true gem. Complete with English accents and more importantly: a fish fry that left me with an incredibly memorable impression. Forget what you’re used to. There’s no tartar sauce that’s served with the fish and there’s not even any silverware… or plates. You’re given a wrap with the fish in it and some mushy(yet delicious) french fries. You’re asked if you want salt and vinegar on your chips, but that’s it. If you want tartar sauce, they have some packets behind the counter that you can ask for. There’s no real silverware, but if you want… they have a small wooden fork of sorts, apparently similar to what you’d find in England. You can choose either a small or large fish($ 10 for small, $ 12 for large). It may seem pricey for a fish fry, but they use Cod fish as opposed to Haddock which is usually used in a fish fry(Cod is more expensive). The result is an unmistakable mouth-watering unique experience that I’ve yet to experience anywhere in the US. The interior is no-frills, but homey. There’s a counter that you order in and the chef cooks the fish in front of you. It’s setup to be served very quickly and the owner’s are experimenting with starting a new franchise. I hope to God it takes off, because America could use something like this EVERYWHERE. If you want to eat outside, There are some picnic tables setup, alongside a highway-esque road. It’s not exactly visually appealing, but it’s awesome. They are currently in the midst of their soft open, so things are still getting going. I would have liked to have been served a lemon with the fish, but I think they probably have some… you just have to ask. I believe the goal of this place is to replicate a truly authentic English experience. They have English beer + lemonade in coolers and even the spices they use are sourced from Britain. They would also benefit from having some wet naps available to customers, since you can imagine that eating fish with your hands can be quite a messy experience. Despite this, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here and introduce more people to this divey delicious gem. The fish fry was truly among the best I’ve ever eaten anywhere in the States, even without what some would consider the«essentials»(i.e. plates, forks, lemon, tartar sauce). If you love authentic experiences or fish fry’s in general… you owe it to yourself to check out this gem. Try the buttered sausage and report back, because the staff over there made it sound completely amazing. For those that like bullet points: — amazing fish fry, but you have to ask for tartar sauce in packets(traditionally in England, it’s served without). authentic, awesome experience. — no plates. You’re just given the fish and chips in a wrap. There’s no real silverware, although some wooden forks are available. — very limited seating inside. some picnic tables setup outside. credit cards accepted.
