Who knew. Ala Maxwell Smart, for those old enough to remember, getting in to eat at Roux requires one to register with the guard at the front desk. Up to the 5th floor. Open fry type of eatery, normal cafeteria style of café. I am here for breakfast, 8:30am. Fresh Homefries with onions and pepper. I love it when the food is already seasoned. Worth your visit if you want to make a day of it early at Canalside.

They were not that busy when my friend and I got there. We both ordered the same«daily special», Turkey, bacon, tomato etc. soup and salad. Only my friend asked for it on a different bread. We got our soup, which was fine, but nothing to write home about, and waited. Her basket with sandwich and«chips» not salad was brought out. Mine was not. I asked the server who seemed a bit confused, but said he go back to get it. I waited and waited… asked another waitress who also said she’d go get it. When still no one came I went inquire again. I see those same people in the kitchen, and no one seems to know anything. I Finally got my sandwich… at which point my friend realized what she was given was on the bread she asked for, but not the turkey/bacon/tomato. She was willing to over look the chips replacing the salad… but by this time she went to the kitchen to complain. They gave her her money back, and I finished my sandwich, which by the way was quite tasty despite the aggravation. Based on my experience with the inept staff, I don’t think I’d go back.

I eat here 2 – 3 per week. The Shrimp Po’Boy is amazing! I also would recommend the Cubano and pulled pork/pulled chicken when it is available.

If it were just me, I’d give two stars, but I bumped it up because my lunch companions enjoyed their food. There’s one vegetarian lunch option, a Mediterranean Wrap, which I ordered without feta for a vegan option. At first I was impressed with how much flavor there was, but then my tongue started hurting. It wasn’t spicy burning, just hurting. The food didn’t taste very garlicky or oniony, but after I finished the wrap, the garlic lingered. There must have been a LOT of raw garlic for my tongue to hurt like that.(If you’ve never licked a sliced raw clove a garlic, don’t.) There were four soups but there was no way to tell if they were veg friendly without asking someone, which I didn’t bother to do. The fries were fine but looked crispier than they are. They make them ahead and keep them in a pan with a metal bowl over the top, so I shouldn’t be surprised that, while they were hot, they were also limp. Order at the counter, pay at the register, and your food is brought to you at your table. I would love for there to be a vegan po’ boy, but when I read this place was being opened by the folks behind Liberty Hound, I knew not to expect much in the way of vegetarian or vegan options.
