Went there on a Friday. Nice remodel job. Sat at the bar. Bartender Bob, was an arrogant jerk. Ordered a fish fry and had it baked. They said it was haddock, but not so sure on that score. Flavorless piece of fish. French fries hard, obviously cooked previously. Cole slaw fair, and really couldn’t identify the spice they used to make it stand out, but it failed. Pasta salad, boring and bland. I believe the meal was $ 17. A little high compared to every other place for fish. 5÷20÷2016.

Stopped in for a quick bite and wasn’t disappointed. The house Sauvignon Blanc was amazing! I ordered the open faced salmon sandwich and it was very very good! Nice pairing with the rye toast, aoli and pickled onions. I will definitely be back!

Will not return, so loud you cannot hear the voices in your own head! The waitress ‘s will need hearing aids soon? The décor and wood work were very nice. The food was terrible, will not eat there again. Told waitresses, they appolized but did not adjust the check. Did offer ice cream. The drys were not fit to eat, even after they brought more out. They were old or something? Her chicken sandwich came out on a hot dog roll?

First time back to the new The Place. The new remodeled dinning room and bar are updated but still has the old bar charm. The service was friendly and very attendant. Menu had a wide rang of food while still not having a large menu.

The remodel looks great, but that’s about the only thing that is good. I ordered the Ruben and it was by far the worst thing I have ever ate. The old place had one of the best Rubens, this wasn’t even comparable. Sloppy, cold, and had no sauerkraut or dressing on it. Corn beef was cut wrong and not shaved. The waiter didn’t really seem to care, since he never came back once to ask how the meal was, and I had to wave down the hostess for another item.

It’s very rare to find a restaurant that can serve a meal this close to perfect from beginning to end. My fiancé and I decided to start our meal by sharing the spinach salad. I know salad isn’t sexy or exciting but this salad was delicious! Spinach topped with apples, onions, walnuts, tossed in a warm whole grain mustard vinaigrette, topped with grated egg yolk. It was sweet, a little spicy, and really tasty. Next I had the fried chicken, with braised collard greens, and mashed potatoes with just a hint of horseradish. The fried chicken was the best I’ve had, hands down, without compare. The crust was crunchy and full of flavor, the meat was tender and juicy, and it was served with a side of house made bbq sauce. Yum! The mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy with just a bit of horseradish(not so much as to be overwhelming). The greens were tender and delicious, cooked absolutely to perfection. Last we finished our meal by sharing the brownie sundae. Words can barely explain. The whole reason behind the visit was to try this sundae that I happened to overhear two gentlemen talking about at the bar where I work. First the brownie, it’s gluten free, therefore extra fudgy and a little crispy, served warm. The icecream is a house made vanilla bean with tiny candied sugar crunchies in it. I’d go so far as to almost call it a crème brûlée icecream, creamy, rich, and once again, delicious. The chocolate sauce and whipped cream were also house made, not overly sweet and wonderful. The candied pecans on top were the perfect finish on the amazing sundae. Last but certainly not lesst, the service. Our server was polite courteous and on the ball. Overall this was probably one of the best meals I’ve eaten in a restaurant, from beginning to end, in a very long time. If I had to pick just on word to describe my experience, it would be fabulous!

They still have some things to work out. It took over an hour to get our dinner and although the pasta was freshly made it was very under done. Waitress was pretty unapologetic although the owner made a strong effort. I would give them a couple of weeks to work out their kinks.

Service was terrible, waited almost an hour for food, waitress didn’t seem particularly concerned. When you wait forever for your food it will not taste good, no matter what! Perhaps the school board AND restaurant is too much for one man…

The Place is an excellent neighborhood bar. They are famous for their Tom & Jerry’s, which they serve around the holiday season. I don’t actually like Tom & Jerry’s, but enjoy coming here with friends who do. The Place has a good tap list and a homey, sort of dive-bar feel that I like immensely. The best part is that the bar is overall really friendly. What other bar do you know where the bartender asks your name when you order, and then remembers it the next time you go in? I’ve eaten here once or twice. The food is OK, what you’d expect from a neighborhood bar. But mainly, I go for drinks.

There isn’t much to say about The Place that hasn’t already been said. Yet at the same time, I am surprised to see the average rating here of only about 3 stars… The Place is a Buffalo staple. It’s a neighborhood joint with solid bartenders, a mix of seating arrangements for cocktails or dining, and an all-around unpretentious atmosphere. My parents used to go to The Place when they were younger and now it’s one of my favorite spots as well. I come here more often for drinks than for food. They’ve got comfort food that people rave about from burgers to macaroni and cheese. Their french fries are on point too. The Place has a couple big TVs, making it an excellent place to watch games. Between Thanksgiving and New Years, The Place is particularly popular because they serve Tom and Jerry’s– a classic holiday cocktail with hot rum, brandy, and sugary whipped egg topping. If you haven’t had one before, it is definitely worth trying. But be careful because The Place can get really crowded around the holidays.

Typical bar food but face it — you come here for the Cheers-like bar friends and Tim and Jerrys.

Sat down for cozy atmosphere, ordered a draft and wine. My bf ordering the corn beef pastrami and I ordered the infamous Mac n cheese with tenderloins. After a 35 minute wait for our food, we were disappointed. The corn beef was fatty, and the Mac n cheese watery and burnt with tough tenderlions. Tasted horrible! Kraft mac n cheese would have tasted better.

Just a classic joint… good food, good drinks, good conversation and legit old time consistency… Well worth a visit.

It was a lot nicer inside than you’d expect from the exterior. Dark, calm and sort of green and peaceful inside. I got macaroni and cheese and it was alright, not very remarkable. My boyfriend got this really spicy macaroni and cheese and we were much happier with the spicy one. At some point a waiter hushed me despite being the only table in the restaurant but i swear i wasn’t being that loud so that made me very uncomfortable. The service was quick though, the bathrooms clean and the bar patrons quiet and relaxed. I would try here again maybe on a busier night. It would have been a lot more comfortable with other people in the room.

I have only been to The Place once and I have to say the experience did not make me want to go back. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. They did have a nice selection of homemade soups, but other than that, their food is just a-ok, hence the 3 stars. I would be willing to go back and give it another try though — wait for my updated review!

Three stars? Are you kidding me? This is one of my favorite pubs in Buffalo! Yes, The Place is just a little old neighborhood bar, about as nondescript as its name. Yes, the clientele tends toward the middle-aged and up. But it’s so warm and cozy! And Kenny the bartender is such a sweet, stand-up guy! And the Buffalo chicken mac and cheese?! That alone is enough for a five-star rating in my book!(I should also recommend the wedge salad, which will be adored by blue cheese lovers and deplored by health nuts.) This is THE place to go when all you want to do is throw on a pair of jeans and hang out with a group of friends who you can actually hear. I mean, The Blue Monk is nice and all, but if I had to choose between the two I’d take The Place any day!

The Place is great for standard traditional dishes served hot and affordably. That probably doesn’t sound awe inspiring, but it’s reliable and consistently good. It’s comfortable and unassuming. I like going there because they always have several different soups as well as the mac & cheese that keeps my wife suggesting this restaurant on those nights we can’t seem to agree on where to go. Turkey dinner with all of the trimmings? Ribeye and a potato cooked to order? The promise of Tom & Jerrys to ease your pain when the holidays and your in-laws come calling? The Place offers all of these comforts and more.

I came here with the expectation of grabbing some mac and cheese that would blow my mind. I was disappointed — the mac and cheese that I ended up trying was okay, but in no way mind-numbingly exemplary. Quite the contrary, it was skimpy on the cheese and the panko bread crumbs on it were a little burnt. The service and ambiance of this place is pretty cool for a neighborhood bar though. Very comfortable to sit at the bar, watch some sports, talk to some locals and the bartender was incredibly friendly. They are rumored to have really strong drinks and some of the best Tom & Jerry’s as well, but I didn’t indulge. Maybe that’s why the mac & cheese wasn’t that great, because I was sober? :( Still though, a cute OK neighborhood bar. I’d go down to Blue Monk for my bar food Mac & Cheese or if I’m feeling a further drive — Mooney’s for their monstrous lobster mac & cheese, yum!

Despite my past experiences with The Place, I agreed to meet some friends up here for a drink last night. I wanted to try their mac-n-cheese which I’ve been told was their redeeming quality. It was one of, if not the best backed mac-n-cheese dishes I’ve ever had and certainty enough for two people or two meals. I would have added an extra star, but when I was brought my beer I was given a glass which was«seasoned» with pepper or ash(?) I’m not sure. I decided to trust the glassware provided by Mic Ultra and drink from the bottle. The menu we were given was also filthy. They are paper folks. Print some fresh, clean ones. The crowd is so mixed, from ages 20’s to 70s. I suspect a lot of people just come here out of habit or tradition. Also to note, on that busy Friday night the noise level was very high; difficult to talk across the table. I mean, if you are looking for a neighborhood place to meet some friends for a drink, I guess this place is fine.
