The Westbrook was home to me for many years while attending college. I lucked out when a friend of mine was searching for a new roommate at the same time I was apartment hunting. I stayed for 4 years after that and would have continued living there if I hadn’t had to move out of town for a job. While the building is quite old, and has its quirks and it is an apartment building afterall… consisting of 10 floors; it has a very homey sort of feel to it. Everyone is super friendly, and maybe it’s because it’s family owned and run. The manager Nate quite frequently brings his children with him to the Summer BBQ that they have on the roof every year or to other events. Did you get that BBQ? On the roof? It’s an amazing view from the top and equally amazing view if you get an apartment high up. Great to enjoy on warm summer afternoons, mornings and night; it’s always a treat. Most of the apartments are quite different from the others and that’s what makes them special. In some ways I was happy to live on the 1st floor where the Laundry room, mailboxes and front doors are close when carrying in groceries. I’d say they’re definitely worth your time to check out, because you may fall in love with the high ceilings, hardwood floors and the antiquated feel of the building in general. They also have other fun amenities, like a tenant built library(which is a small room of books off the side of the laundry room), there used to be a restaurant, there’s a Halloween party complete with costume contest, Christmas party and other fun things that go on. The maintenance man«Tex» is a character and a hoot and a half. I recommend making friends with him to get things fixed when they aren’t working, like I said the building is quirky, but not falling apart. Oh and one more thing, they offer parking in their private lots which may or may not be in the small lot closer to linwood avenue. If you do get a spot on the Linwood side, be sure to leave your doors unlocked or park on the street instead. Frequently tenants have had their car windows broken due to people looking for change during winter months. Aside from that, I think it’s swell.
