Just came back from an awesome visit to the Bomp Records warehouse in Burbank. They fulfill orders from , so if you can find it online it’s probably in the warehouse. I can’t recommend it enough — a true hidden gem. Suzy says the hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-3pm, but to email first to check that they are open. If you’re a vinyl fiend, there’s more than just Atomic in Burbank!

Just adding to Richard C.‘s excellent write-up with a couple more notes about the place. This is a mail-order warehouse, graciously open to walk-ins, featuring new vinyl and CD’s from the Bomp! and Alive labels. The contents of this place and item pricing are the same as found on Bomp’s website(yes, that’s bomp-dot-com). So go there to see the amazing stuff they have on offer, then come here to buy items without paying for shipping. Better still, take an hour or two to dig into LA underground music history, check out the cover art and track listings, hear some fascinating stories, and go home with some affordable treats. Right near Costco but a very different kind of warehouse experience! A lot of CD’s but really a whopping amount of vinyl, all new and sealed and shiny and carefully organized(it is a warehouse after all!). The exterior looks like it can’t possibly be any kind of retail shop – no sign, just an open garage door with a low pet fence – but it’s real and it’s all here. Oh, one more thing: Very friendly folks.

Not all is dead in Burbank. I’ve come to rail on the city of Burbank many-a-times in my Unilocal reviews. That sleepy town to the East isn’t high on my list of places to go for a variety of reasons. But like most things in life, there are no absolutes and even Burbank has some retail exceptions. At the forefront are spots for music and beer. Atomic Records and Tony’s Darts Away respectively. But like so many times in life, I’m always proven wrong when I think I know all the spots that come correct. In short, Bomp Records learned me. When I recently bid on and won an auction on ebay and later contacted the seller for a local pickup, little did I know I would end up at the treasure trove that is Bomp Records. Located in a co-joined warehouse of an industrial park, Bomp Records sits unassuming with it’s big front doors open and two small dogs patrolling the area. Take a step over the little fence and they’re sure to devour your shoelace. Once inside and once the«guard dogs» are put on top of a table off to the side, you free to roam the tables and shelves filled with CD and vinyl goodness. Old stuff, new stuff, it’s all there. And since Bomp Records is America’s oldest running record label, there’s more than enough product to keep you browsing for hours upon hours. I mean, much to much stuff to take in on your lunch break. You need to plan a Bomp Saturday. You won’t be disappointed. On my first visit, I was glad to make the acquaintance of Suzy Shaw, the other half of the Shaw formula. Greg being the 1st half. Co-owners who take pride in not having to answer to anyone and doing things the right way. Once inside, Suzy introduced herself to me and gave me the 50 cent tour of the place. Again, just a lot to take in. This place, this label has a lot of history and if you don’t know it, you should for it’ll make you a better American. Anyway, after my selections were made, she rung me up and I was on my way… already planning when I would return. I was happy to have found the place… and if you’re into music as much as I am, you’ll be happy too.
