Eqocar

Now, I didn’t rent from them. I WANTED to, I needed a full size car for a trip to Santa Ynez. When I asked «do you take triple A discounts», the guy on the phone made a mumbly noise of some sort. I asked about a full size, and he told me I couldn’t fit anything in the trunk. He said I’d need an SUV, like the Chevy Tahoe. Looking on the site, I saw the Tahoe rented for $ 170 or so a day. Another SUV rented for less, and I asked about it.
«We don’t got that one.»
«You’re site says you do.»
«No, it’s rented. Everything but the Tahoe is rented. It is summer and the fourth this weekend.»
«OK, that’s fine, like I told yo, I dont need it this weekend, I need it on Wednseday next week.»
«We’re sold out then, too. We’re sold out the next two weeks. The next MONTH. All we have is the Tahoe.»
Home boy didn’t want my business, as renting a cheaper car is better than renting no car at all. So I’m going to rent elsewhere.
Poor manners and stupid service mean no $$$ from me.

This rental car company is AWESOME. We were a little unnerved at first when we stepped off the plane and realized that they weren’t at the airport, but they picked us up pretty quick and their office was only a couple of minutes away. The price was fantastic — $ 38/​day! Plus, since the car was a hybrid, we only put in $ 14 in gas to fill the tank back up — all of this after driving for 3 days back and forth to LA! The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Definitely worth checking out.

BAIT AND SWITCH served with an order of lies
Strike one: I reserved the PT Cruiser (hideous, I know, but it was cheap) on Wednesday. They called me on Thursday to confirm my reservation. When I showed up on Saturday, the rental car guy said that he was «upgrading» me to a Honda Civic. They had no PT Cruisers in the lot; I’m not even sure they have any in their fleet!
Strike two: I insisted that the Civic was not big enough to suit my needs, as I was planning to transport some items. Apparently, you’re not allowed to «transport» anything but passengers in their cars. No backpacks, boxes, camping gear or sporting equipment. I definitely don’t believe that one– if true, it’d be on the rental agreement.
Strike three: The total at time of pick-​up included a $ 10 «fee charged by the airport» that was not in the «total estimate» at the time of reservation. Rental car guy insisted Eqocar had no say in it, and that the $ went directly to the airport. Funny, because the Enterprise down the street didn’t charge me the $ 10.
I ended up ditching Eqocar and getting an Intermediate-​sized car at Enterprise (last minute too) for even cheaper! Two stars, because I’d still rent from Eqocar if I can get a good deal. I’ll just expect to get a different car from what I reserve, and I just won’t tell them if I want to «transport» anything besides people.

First, Victor led me to believe the deposit amount for the rental was twice the amount of the rental, telling me that they would «work with me». When I get there, the deposit was $ 350, much more than most car rental places. The ad on
said unlimited mileage, but they wouldn’t agree to that and charged me an extra 20 for unlimited mileage. He rushed me to sign all papers before receiving the car, and did not go over car with me. He said gas was at ½ tank, it was actually at ¼ tank, I brought it back a little less than ½ tank and they charged me another $ 18.75. The 18.75 charge was an additional charge taken out of my account, not put against the deposit as they said it would be. I couldn’t dispute the gas with them because they were not open when they were supposed to be open and I had to go home. They called me and I said wait, I’m coming right back so we can go over the car return together. In 15 min, they returned the car without my knowledge. They refused to give me a typed receipt, gave me one that was half hand written. The manager yelled at me to leave when I questioned their practices and to never come back. I asked for his first and last name and he lied and said «Michael Jackson». I asked the employee the manager’s name and he threatened to call the cops on me.

My husband and I rented a hybrid from Eqocar last week and were, on the whole, really happy with our experience.
A small van picked us up from BUR very shortly after we landed, the rental office was close by and we had our car (with free upgrade) in record time. It was very clean and did indeed get great mileage around LA. Dropping the car off was again a smooth and easy process.
My only quibble with them was that they charged us an extra $ 15 fee that hadn’t been agreed to or discussed beforehand — after a query they said it was an ‘airport fee’ that had something to do with recent construction at BUR — but we hadn’t been informed of it at any point beforehand. After a bit of back and forth, they agreed to refund the fee.
I would rent from them again. Quite apart from anything else, this was the *cheapest* rental I could find online for the area — cheaper even that the big ‘bargain’ agencies that rent gas-​guzzlers!

I thought that this was a good company when I saw the price. They were very friendly when I picked up my car and the service seemed to be great. When I brought back the car it was a very different story. We were half an hour late due to traffic in LA (no surprise there) and the owner was totally annoyed. I understand rules are rules, but being a half hour late and charging us for a full day seemed a little much. We thought he’d just give us a warning and charge us for the one day (like most quality customer service providers would), but when he handed us the bill he had in fact charged us for the extra day. The end result? The original quote of $ 89 turned into $ 145 for being half an hour late. A little customer service goes a long way. I will not rent from this guy again.

Wow, just wow. I don’t know if it’s Boyfriend’s karma in general, or what, but… glad I stumbled upon this rental car company when I was looking up companies on the BUR’s website.
In no particular order:
1) it’s a small operation whose office is at the Marriott building across from the BUR entrance.
2) their prices are competitive if not BETTER than renting a regular car (e.g. for the price of a compact from known-​company A, Eqocar was about the same for a Camry hybrid)…nm the fact that they are WAY cheap for a hybrid.
3) not sure if this is standard policy, but our mileage limit was 600 for the 2 days we had it
4) it = Prius. When we returned the car, the guy @ the office used it to drop us off @ the airport so we got dropped off at the terminal and not the rental car pickup/​drop-​off area… YESSS!!! (we would’ve missed our flight otherwise… another story, another time LOL)
5) the Prius had GPS, and the voice wasn’t nagging us when we deviated from the beaten path
6) The guy who picked us up was friendly and said they’d be expanding to NorCal soon… another YESSSS!!!
7) Another not-sure-if-it’s-regular-policy: we had to fill up the tank before we returned the car (from what I gathered from Boyfriend, you return the car w/​the amt of gas it had in it when you picked it up)
I think that’s all. I absolutely HIGHLY recommend them, and I would totally fly into BUR again if I find myself going to SoCal and needing a rental car while I’m at it.

My fiancé’s car had to go into the shop and I found Eqocar through
. We needed a car whilst her’s was in the shop, and also wanted to «try out» a Prius. I found this small new company that rents only hybrids very good and joined Unilocal just to leave a comment for them. They are incredibly professional, and kind. We had a small scratch that must have been left by an unbeknownst parking lot bump, but they kindly let it go. Obviously, they take building customer relations very seriously.
The only thing to really be aware of is that they are not within the Burbank Airport parking confines. They are located across Hollywood Way within the gated/​validated Marriott/​Bank area on Thornton.
After the rental, it is clear that the old Cabrio will be trading up to a Prius this year!

First let me say their entire fleet consists of hybrids and bio-​diesel shuttle rentals are on the way.
Working for a big corporate office where we have people flying in on a regular basis renting cars I found this company through a 3^rd party budget broker but when I spoke to them directly they offered the better rate.
They not only consistently give me the better quote of all the other car rentals from the Burbank airport-​which are usually $$$- but provides the most dependable, punctual and affordable service I have every dealt with in my many years of travel planning.
I am so amazed and thankful for their constant corrections of my errors that I don’t even think twice about comparing pricing or making sure that our guests are accommodated properly.
