There is nothing like being late for work, jumping in your car in a rush, only to discover it’s dead! Thank goodness Fairview Auto was close at hand. James was wonderful! He even let me borrow some mechanic’s tools to slug back to my dead car so I could avoid a tow! He was quick, efficent, and above all HONEST. He walked me through everything he was doing and got me a good deal on a new battery. I will definitely be headed back whenever I need anything done to my car.

James is the best. Quick quality service. Recommend anyone I know to his business. Just had smog check done again there this morning. My wife and I always go to him. He’s always super friendly and has a great sense of humor. On top of all that, I am usually out of there in a half hour or less.

James took care of my smog check in less than 20 mins. Right across from the Burbank Studios, so I was able to walk to Commissary and enjoy sunshine and iced tea. While I was out, James noticed that one of my fuses was burnt out– my cigarette lighter. I knew this and just figured, hey my car is old– I’ll deal. He swapped out the fuse for me, so now I can charge my phone! For no charge! Seriously to most kind, awesome guy I have met in Los Angeles. I did a double take… kindness? Are we in the Midwest, Toto? :) DEFINITELY call James for all your auto needs. No appts. necessary for smog checks. Great price and above average service.

Registering an out-​of-​state vehicle in CA, so needed to get a smog check. Total 5-​star experience. 35 minutes from leaving my desk, getting the inspection done and back to my desk in the Pinnacle Building on Olive. Can’t ask for more convenience than that! James was a super-​cool; very friendly and personable. Highly recommended for all of your smog check needs.

I went in mid-​afternoon on a weekday for my Biennial smog check. James took care of it all in less than 20 minutes! The cost is fair, and the location is convenient (as well as easy to get in and out of).
James himself was wonderful! He is very understanding and has a good personality that is easy to get along with. Made for a no-​stress, pleasant visit. Thank you!

Great place. Found through a friend who insisted I try it. With so many other choices, I’m glad I did! The owner is calm and helpful, chatty if you’re friendly. Plus good and fair. We need more places with a good attitude and service like this! Also Alfred’s Auto Repair, he does a lot besides smog… Check out the cool amphibian car on display, too!

Needed a Smog Test upon moving to California. While the shops offering such services seem to be on any street corner, go here for guaranteed good service.
I was a little nervous pulling up to the small garage. I was sure the mechanic working under the car inside would be a surly, unhelpful man. James is anything but that! He dropped what he was doing, and completed my Smog Check in 5 minutes or less. By far the *fastest* experience I’ve ever had at a car shop. James even gave me helpful tips on how to navigate the DMV bureaucracy. Thanks a lot!

Terrible experience… And I had been a past customer too! Used them for years… Not sure why but what a jerk, super rude and condescending now. Ended up driving off due to the inconsiderate and rude remarks.
Will never ever go back again… There are bunch of smog stations all over alameda and western… With better service than this. It’s just a smog check!

I have to tell you about the great service I got at Fairview Auto. Realized I needed a smog check and Jim got my car in quickly. He even went the extra mile to buff out some parking lot marks from my fender. Very nice, indeed!

Fantastic. Took an ’86 Dodge there (many places won’t do anything that old). James took his time and did a great job, but had to fail it because the check engine light didn’t work properly. Not his fault. So I made an appointment with my mechanic, but James called me within an hour and said to bring it back, because he did some checking with other mechanics and it turned out that the check engine light on that year was strangely labeled «power loss» and after he told me over the phone how to check it, it appeared to be working correctly after all. The emissions were surprisingly low (but then the car has very few miles for its age). Anyway, he apologized for not knowing that quirk and retested it for free, refusing to let me pay for the certificate because I had to come back, even though I really insisted. A very stand-​up guy. There are places a little cheaper (I almost went to one!), though some charge for the retest which could definitely make them more expensive, but I doubt they are as hard-​working and conscientious as James. I couldn’t recommend Fairview more!

James was very courteous and professional, explaining the process to me and how to proceed once I passed the test. I called beforehand, to avoid the lunchtime rush hour, so I didn’t have to wait. I sat outside while the test was conducted, and was on my way back to the office in half in hour. I’d highly recommend Fairview Auto for your next smog test.

About as painless as a smog check gets. Was looking for a place near my work, and found this one. I called for an estimate, and the owner (I think) gave me everything I needed to know right away. After comparing a few other places and finding them to be more expensive and farther away, I went here on my lunch break. He got me through the paperwork quickly, gave me an accurate time estimate (25 min, and I didn’t have an appointment), and pointed out the nearest restaurant. I walked up to Poquito Mas, had an ahi burrito, walked back, and my car was done. He walked me through the results and paperwork and I was on my way. Oh, and I interrupted his lunch coming back, and he couldn’t have been cooler about it. Good place.

Friendly knowledgable service. Very personable. I trust these guys.

Do not go here. This guy will talk to you like you are a child. He can’t possibly run a good business. Plenty of other good repair smog stations nearby. He can’t even show up on time to open his own shop. I have taken 2 cars here in the past, I have 3 cars that need smog every 2 years, he will never touch any of them again.

The owner (at least I think he was) is a true gentlemen. He took his time to explain how everything works and how I should register with DMV. Really nice guy! I even got a $ 5 discount :)
I highly recommend going here. Go here and get it done right the first time hassle free! Great restaurants in the area too so why not grab a bite while waiting?

I went here today for my 2012 smog check. I had a smog check here in 2010 and I was so pleased with the service that it stuck in my mind. Nothing had changed. James was as personable, informative, funny and fast as he was the first time. And I’ll go back there in 2014 too.

James was amazingly nice and professional, but also friendly and personable! And a great sense of humor. Quick, easy, hassle-​free! Needed a smog check, and had to leave the car for an hour and a half, but only cuz I was in line behind everybody else in town who has discovered the wonderful Fairview auto.

Wow this was the best smog experience ever! Got me in right away, told me it would be 25 – 35 min. and if I wanted I could go across the street to the Mexican restaurant and if I eat tell them I’m getting Smog-​ed and I’ll get 20% off, so I went over had a nice lunch and when I came back all was done! He told me he adjusted my front tire pressure it was way over and all was done and off I went to AAA to reg my car. Super nice, very professional and no Bull! Will go back! Thanks James!

James was great. He’s got great hours, and is professional, thorough, patient, efficient, and believes in full disclosure. I was in and out in 20 minutes (which included topping off the tires). Moreover, he was $ 2 cheaper than the guy I usually visit in Pasadena. I’ll definitely be a repeat customer.
