This store is so much better than game dudes in North Hollywood. It was a little bit hard to find(it’s in the plaza past the theater) but the people working in the store are very friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for a game store that is friendly and welcoming to all people, come here! They actually give you clear cases when you buy gameboy games here, which is really nice.

I’m going to be honest, like straight off the bad, not the best video game store in Los Angeles. I think they most certainly have the ability to become one of the best, but it just doesn’t feel inviting, and you’ll spend more time looking than buying. Variety is very scarce. Do they have great games? Yeah, but I bought them all. I found a boxed copy of Kid Icarus on GameBoy and they had a sale going on. I spent 10 minutes trying to find a second game, and I ended up finding F-Zero GX. It’s not that they don’t have games, but it’s hidden in all the other games that no one really care about. As well, the prices Are bad, they’re actually pretty good, but I don’t care about that one Sega Sports game. As well, the atmosphere is just not there. There’s a whole depressing feel from how everything is lined up as if it was GameStop. There literally a boxed Billy and Mandy GBA game on the floor, and I just don’t care. I really like this store, and maybe I was just at the wrong time or the wrong day, but literally if they moved a couple things around, separated the shovel-ware, and maybe did something like play video game music in the store, it would be a little more inviting and pleasant. Is it a good store? Yeah, but other than what I bought, nothing was truly memorable.

this place and its people are the absolute best!!! the guy that’s usually in is super chill and likes to chat it up with you and make you feel welcomed not like other places constantly asking you if you need any help, he lets you do your thing and checks in on you if he sees ur browsing harder than most, not like other places that over greet you with the«hurry up and buy» tone or try to get you out the door as fast as possible. i forgot his name but ill be sure to check back in with them and write a new review! anyway so i strolled in one day by chance with my fiancé and was just blown away by the selection and prices on games and systems, they also carry a bit of memorabilia when ur lucky and its all pretty sick! their buy back program is legit(go with store credit its wayyyyy worth it) and the over all vibe is just a gamers place to be, keep up the good work! cheers!

I came up from Camp Pendleton just to look through the vintage selection and found great pricing on a few items I was interested. The customer service from Chris blew me away. I really appreciate all the help he was and look forward to the next time I stop in.

I went in looking for retro games for my Retron5. They had a decent collection(not huge) with reasonable prices. I picked up a couple of games. The guy that helped me out was pretty cool and polite. Will be back again in the future.

Well this place won me over! The owner is a really down-to-earth dude who went out of his way to hook me up with an amazing deal on a Sega Genesis game(Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition). «Vintage» games are getting to be a really over-priced market, but this place is the most reasonably priced store I’ve come across! Check this place out!

There are very few game stores left with the ability to actually make a deal, buy retro games and actually get value for your trade ins. Game Portal does all of the above with friendly, accommodating staff. Their selection of current generation may not be as extensive as their retro selection but you can go anywhere for PS4, XBONE and Wii u games. Game Portal is now my go-to-store for any Gameboy, Genesis, N64, etc. I walked in with no intentions of buying anything and walked out with the best deal I could imagine. Why waste your time at a GameStop when you can jump into a Game Portal?

everything was great I loved the experience of shopping there with my girlfriend until one problem… the ultimate problem. the game had a ring like they get when people shake their consoles and it was all scratched up. we stupidly wondered why we didn’t look or why he didn’t show us :/it was a pre-owned game but I figure they play it before they buy it. it was bio shock and it was only 5 bucks with the BOGO deal but it still sucked and we had thrown out the receipt already. so I give it a 5 star for customer appreciation but I have to knock off a star for buying something I can’t use. Just check the game before you leave the store.

So I am a big fan of supporting local businesses just like this one, but unfortunately to say this place Will not be one of them. I randomly went in there after seeing a movie at the theatre the other day to ask about fixing my old backwards compatible PlayStation 3 game console since they are a video game store. They said yes then started to quote a price for the repair. I was totally caught off guard on how expensive and overpriced they were. I had called around a couple months back to other places and had a rough estimate of how much it would cost to fix my broken PS3, but this place was ATLEAST $ 30MORE!!! RIDICULOUS… Take ur business elsewhere. (Also. While I was there, some guy came in with some simple issue with his iPhone and they worker had no clue how to fix it… Not really the place I would feel comfortable leaving my $ 600 iPhone for«service» lol)

Since you want to claim you contacted me and I refused, let’s let the public know what I refused! I moved away from this area. 11 hours away to be exact! You offered to mail me a charger. A charger! That is not fixing the $ 70 we lost. That’s a joke and it’s insulting to contact us over a year later. You deserve zero stars as stated in the beginning.

This place is awesome! One stop shop for all game/electronic needs, including repairs. They have a huge selection of retro and new games, super friendly customer service, and unbeatable prices. Plus, I love that you don’t get the annoying, pushy sales people that you find in so many shops now.

Since I try and support local businesses as much as possible, so I decided to hit up Game portal instead of Game Stop. This place rocks. The selection is great(even a decent amount of old Nintendo games… no Contra though, sadly), probably because they buy and sell used games in addition to new. Also, the guys are completely awesome. The dude I spoke with didn’t try and upsell me at all, and he even had jokes. When I was deciding between two different modes and clumsily dropped one, he said, «All right, I guess you’re getting that one.» And I did, because it sounded like a veiled threat. But I’m happy with my new headset, and happy with the price(better than I’ve seen elsewhere). When I’m done lowering the self-esteem of children around the world, I’ll probably head back in to Game portal; apparently they also fix systems, and my Nintendo could use a tune-up. I can’t get Punch Out to work, and Super Macho Man was getting mouthy last time we went at it. Overall Amazing place for Retro Game and all Old Games

This place is awesome for retro gaming. I got a few things for my GameCube and hope to come back for some Dreamcast stuff. The guy at the counter was very helpful and very interested in what we had to say, we even chatted for a few minutes before making my person. Very knowledgeable staff. No problem so far. Hope to come back soon.

The guy behind the counter sold me a used ps3 that runs like new for 100 bucks after giving me a discount because I had a controller. Way cheaper than Gamestop and the guy wasnt hammering the sale down my throat like some places.

In a time when Gamestop practically rules the game-selling market, you’d think the few remaining stores like Game Portal would at least try to adapt. Unfortunately they haven’t at all. Actually, they’ve regressed. A lot of the reviews on here are obviously planters/friends of the people who work at Game Portal and I’d question whether or not they’ve even been inside before. Firstly, the prices are TERRIBLYEXPENSIVE and grossly OVER-PRICED. Now, I’m not the biggest supporter of Gamestop, but at least there’s some logic to their pricing. I found a NEW game at Gamestop for $ 8.99 – that was NEW. I checked for the same game at Game Portal and it was literally $ 18.99 used. USED. This is consistent with EVERY title, regardless of system. Certain games are bargain-bin fodder and can be found(once again) brand new and sealed for $ 5. However, these same games are double, triple and even quadruple the price USED at Game Portal. It’s unbelievable and shows that no one working here has even the smallest grasp of understanding on the gaming market or trends. Secondly, the selection is severely limited… Unless you enjoy playing poorly reviewed/received games. Thirdly, the young staff just doesn’t know how to talk or interact with customers beyond saying«Hello». It would also be a good idea to not blast rap throughout the store in which every verse is an obscenity laced threat. Maybe play music that coincides with what you’re selling?
