It’s so awesome that Burgess has a Dollar General. I know, it’s just a discount store, what’s awesome about that, right? Well, try living(or growing up) in Burgess for a while and you’ll experience first-hand the conveniences that you take for granted living in an urbanized area. Run out of deodorant for your hot date at the local Moose Lodge? Sorry Charlie — if it’s after 3PM on a Saturday, you’ll find yourself making a 45 – 50 minute round trip just to get basic toiletries. At least that’s the way it used to be. Now with Dollar General in town, you can get your basic necessities at pretty much any reasonable time … even on a Sunday! I often forget to bring a cooler home with me when I visit my parents, which means I can’t raid their freezer and take stuff home.(Yes, I’m almost 40 and still do that. Don’t judge. If your parents were in the seafood business and kept lobster tails in the freezer, you’d do the same thing.) DG comes through with a discount cooler in a pinch to keep my oysters and shrimp and lobster cool on the way back to Manassas. Like most discount stores — and stores on the NNK in general — this one needs a little bit of clean up. It’s disorganized and a little dirty. My wife’s shirt was filthy from handling the cooler that we bought.(This DG opened up about 3 – 4 years ago and it was much cleaner and better kept when it first opened.) And with narrow aisles — and being the only game in «town» — the store can sometimes get cramped. But hey, at least I don’t have to drive all the way to Kilmarnock when I come home and realize I didn’t pack enough underwear.
