D New Look Hair Salon

I returned to the Burke area a year ago after a six years. When we lived here previously, I had my hair cut at Five Star. I got a very good men’s haircut there for a pretty bad (high) price. I have straight, blond hair that brightly advertises sub-​par haircuts so I seek/​need a higher-​skilled stylist than some men do. When I found D New Look last spring, I was pleasantly thrilled! I first took my pre-​teen sons there on a whim but then had my hair cut there a week or two later. What a find!
Dao, the owner, used to work at a high-​end salon in DC and opened D New Look Salon here in the ‘burbs several years ago. I’m so glad she did! I truly feel I get the higher-​end salon haircut I used to pay for at Five Star (and other places like this in places I’ve lived over the years) for a Hair Cuttery price. D-Look’s prices are literally half of Five Star’s and every bit as high-​quality. Between my sons and me we have had 3 – 4 different stylists. They are all very good.
Obviously, I can’t provide first-​hand experience on women’s cuts and other treatments but do see plenty of that stuff going on whenever I’m in the shop.
Bottom line, if you want to pay twice as much at the «higher end» hair salons in the area for a nicer waiting area, fancy fashion magazines and the SAME quality haircut, go ahead. If you want to pay the same amount at the Hair Cuttery-​type chains and play Russian Roulette with the quality of your cut from the huge variation in stylists’ skills (I’ve done that routine too, by the way) go ahead. If you want the highest VALUE hair cuts in the Burke area, go to D New Hair Salon!

As a guy i come here and get a mens haircut and also die my hair jet black. I walk out the door spending 40 to 50 bucks. I really liked getting a haircut here until they start talking to you too much. Why do they do that. So now i go to fairfax corner and tell them cut my hair and i will pay you after i look at it. I want to come back i just cant deal with the talking.

Dao has been cutting my hair for 13 years, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else! She is sweet, very friendly and goes out of her way to make sure I’m happy with color/​haircut/​highlights. She’s an incredibly hard worker & the negative reviews posted are not at all thorough or fair, in my opinion.

I have been coming here for years. Always had a good haircut and have referred a number of friend to D New Look. Once again I am leaving with a good haircut — Thank you

Love it! Been coming for a few months now and Dao is the best and knows how to cut my hair. Overall service is just great.

Hair everywhere no AC poor service don’t waste your time and money on them it isn’t worth it.

I bought a living social deal for this salon. Despite some of the reviews saying they will charge for long hair (which I have), I figured that I would try it anyways. I made an appointment earlier that day for full highlights, and then showed up. When I got there, anxious for new highlights after a bad day, the lady told me that the lady who does the living social deals was not working that day, and she just thought that I was a new customer. I asked her what the difference was… (It was just for full highlights and conditioning treatment), I had already bought the deal. I even explained that I was very busy and I took a sick day at work to go do my doctor appointments, etc so I made that appointment today. I requested a refund on my deal, needless to say I was very disappointed and upset after wanting to try this salon.

Waste of Time!
Their phone numbers and address are mixed up. Figured that only after going there. They did not take me in, in-​spite it being their mistake. To make it worse, they were extremely rude and absolutely lack any customer service skills. The lady blamed my me being late while I actually called and let them know I was running late.
Had to send away few visitors home to keep this appointment and ended up to a party with my shabby hair. What a waste of time!!! TOTAL CRAP!

Confession: I have bad brows. In search of a good permanent make up artist one of my friends sent me to Lee, I peeper her website, and was thrilled.
I had my appointment without ever meeting Lee, outside of speaking with her on the phone briefly. The salon was easy to find. Procedure room is clean. Parking was easy and free in a lot. Plaza area was clean, nice and well lit. (Alway a good sign).
When i walked in, another woman had just finished her appointment with Lee for her brows and hair. She couldn’t wait to show them to me, and I was floored at how natural it looked! You could tell how happy this woman was with the results.
Lee was so kind when she greeted me. She took me in right away and asked questions about my preferences, what kind of results i was looking for. My eyebrows are quite sparse. I asked Lee to do what she thought would be best and we would make adjustments afterwards. Lee even brought out a ruler to check length, arches, and symmetry. I was all in! I was impressed with that attention to detail and her interest.
Numbing cream was applied, and after about 10 minutes, we proceeded to the tattoo process. She showed me the needles were new out of the package. Lee showed me the color of the ink and explained why she chose it. The tattooing itself had no pain! She asked if i was okay, I was GREAT. But Lee sent me home with a packets of ointment, instructions on after care. The healing process was a snap. I wish I knew about her years ago.
Dao Lee is a kind, professional, and awesome person. You can tell she takes pride in what she does, and I think she is amazingly skilled at tattooing. This is your face, the only one you get, and she is very aware of that, and wants to ensure that her customers are satisfied with her services. I honestly wanted to hug her before I left, because this is going to be life-​changing.
Procedure room is clean. Parking was easy and free in a lot. Plaza area was clean, nice and well lit. I am looking forward to seeing what my eyebrows look like at the end of the week after the fade occurs, and looking forward to seeing Dao Lee on my next visit. If you’ve been contemplating doing it, stop hesitating and book your appointment!

Went here after the gym for highlights. They said they had to charge me more because I have a lot I hair… Ok, not the first time I’ve heard that…
I told her I wanted light brown highlights and I quote myself as saying «I just don’t want orange tiger stripes»…
Anybody wanna guess what I walked out with? The orangest of tiger stripes… So bad…
Oh and I forgot to mention… When I sat down they put an apron on me and it still had short grey hairs on it from the previous haircut. I was too embarrassed to say anything until my neck started itching because of the previous persons hair… So effing gross!

Great men’s haircut for $ 15. Very prompt and professional service, and it’s in a really convenient location. Ask for Wendy when you go, as she’s very quick and does a great job with a smile.

Stay away!!! Terrible customer service and rude. Just not welcoming at all. And to top it off, she tried to charge me $ 20 extra for my long hair when I bought a livingsocial deal which did not include such a qualification. What a waste of time!!!

I love D’S hair salon. I am willing to travel long distance to get my hair done. It is totally worthy. The price is decent and of course the service is awesomely great. If you have never been there, I recommend that you should give it a try.

This salon is fantastic! It’s affordable and they do a great job with hair cutting and styling. I have been going to D New Look Hair Salon since it was Family Hair across the street. They are also one of the few salons open on Sunday! Makes it much easier for someone who can’t get there during the week.
