I use this store occasionally because it is relatively close to where I live. It is good for picking up a few items between major shopping trips. I prefer other stores when making a major shopping trip. This location is relatively small and doesn’t have the selection available from competitiors. Their produce selections are not the best. Rather than being fresh, seafood is or was previously frozen.

Went to buy zucchini at Safeway and was surprised when, at the self-check-out, the system asked me «how many?» for what had always been a by-the-pound product. Well, the clerk on hand said, «It’s because of California.» And I said, «What?» He mentioned the drought in California as a reason for Safeway hiking product prices. But I’ll bet my bottom dollar that Safeway gets its Virginia zucchini locally, and this new $ 1.25 per-piece price is a trumped-up effort to exploit the California drought and its potential impact on produce prices. I’m not buying it.(And I didn’t.)

Of all the area grocery stores I frequent(Wegman’s and Giant) Safeway has the worst produce department. Absolute, hands down — worst. The produce is never fresh, it’s expensive and the area always looks dingy. One of my big beefs with them are the broccoli crowns. They sell broccoli stalks but no crowns, someone needs to go through and cut off the heavy woody stalks they have on the broccoli they are selling as crowns. The other issue I have with this Safeway is the tall blonde guy who works in seafood, he needs a major attitude adjustment and figure out those people he treats like crap are the ones paying his salary. Ask for him for help or info on the fish and he makes you feel he’s doing you a big favor. I stopped buying fish there because of him. Anyway to get the seating area in the store cleaned up? It’s filthy and not a great place to eat the deli sandwiches you sell. Come on Safeway, get your act together.

The main reason I shop here is it is the closest grocery store to my house. First a message to corporate: PLEASE stop rearranging the store! Who is making these decisions about where to locate items? They obviously have NO common sense. They have also recently deleted numerous normal food items to make space for Organic and vegan items. Has there suddenly been a shift in the demographics of our community? Don’t think so. And, please, please hire more checkers. Why do you have so many checkout lanes but only 2 checkers? You obviously have no respect for your customers’ time. Now the good: In the deli: fresh soup selection rocks, also the roast organic chicken and the 3 cheese mac and cheese. Bakery is much improved, artisan bread, croissants, scones are faves. Rancher’s Reserve beef is excellent. Love the Five Dollar Fridays and the Gas Points. The app is good but could be better. Multiple and different offers for the same product make it confusing. Limited info appearing in the list mode print out sometimes cause incorrect size purchase= no savings.

If spoiled produce and overpriced food is your thing then this is the store for you! Even the brand new produce they put out looks like it has been sitting in the back for weeks before it comes out to the shelf. Also, everything at this location appears to be fifty cents to a dollar more than my local Safeway just around the corner from this location.

I love this Safeway as they have self check out lanes unlike the other location on Old Keene Mill and Lee Chapel. Thank you thank you!

This is «my» Safeway. It fits the bill, but if I lived near a Wegmans, Harris Teeter or maybe Whole Foods I’d probably shop there. My main reason for shopping here is due to convenience, my husband likes it, and I like it more than Giant. Pros: clean, never too busy, has a larger produce section than Giant Cons: inventory often isn’t there, dry cleaning services(services are fine, but it takes FOREVER to get someone to attend to you), and parking can sometimes be tricky

The one on Burke Centre Parkway now has self checkout. Sadly they close them early in the evening and have only one line open later on. You then are stuck behind someone with a full cart when you have five items. They would do well to leave the self checkout open at all times, I mean it only takes one person to monitor all four self checkouts. It is a far sight better than losing customers who are frustrated over the long line. Even 7 – 11 has two registers at night why not Safeway?

This review is for NoVA Safeway grocery stores in the area. The Good: — Fair prices. — Better selection and quality of produce and baked goods compared to Giant. — Slightly better organized than Giant. — They offer reusable bags for purchase. It’s about time! The Bad: — Starbucks in every store. Brilliant business strategy. — No self check-out lines! — When busy(or not), the number of cash registers opened are insufficient. — Express lanes aren’t much faster than normal lanes. As much as I dislike Giant, I’d rather shop there than at Safeway for convenience. Nothing’s worse than having only 5 items and then queuing for over 25 minutes behind a customer with over 30 items at Safeway because the«express» line stretches all the way to the produce section. It’ll happen. I promise.
