Pretty good classic Chinese dishes. We had the sweet and sour chicken, sesame beef and cashew chicken. The egg rolls and spring rolls were good as well. All in all, a good solid four star Chinese restaurant. We intend to try the weekend buffet soon.

My experience here was not good. I didn’t like the fact that they wait to refill the food until it is down to the last serving or last scoop that you end up having to wait a long time. Also, even though their buffet hours are until 2, food is scarce after 1. Don’t they know buffet restaurants are known for abundant food? I went to the line to refill my plate and watched another customer take the last scoop and i asked the hostess for more food. She asked what i wanted and had the cook make some. 20 minutes later, the food comes out. By then, i didn’t feel like eating anymore. She had the nerve to scold me like a kid, like i wasted their food! I told her it was only 1:40 and the buffet should still be stocked for the people who were still there eating. I pointed out to her that the counter was empty except for the food they just brought out and there were still about 10 other customers eating. The food and price was good, but my awful experience won’t bring us back here.

Dinner Special is definitely the way to go! I came in here late one afternoon around 4. It was completely empty and it was kind of weird. But it makes sense if you dine this early. My first impressions were that it was just your typical Chinese American fast food restaurant. And it ended up being exactly that. Pros: I really liked the Hot & Sour soup! One of the best Hot&Sour soups I’ve had from a fast food Chinese restaurant. The price was just right for the special. 9.50 for soup, and an entrée with a vegetable egg roll! Great prices! Cons: The place was a little dirty and the bathroom was really dirty. I also was disappointed by the main entrée. But that was partially my fault because I picked it. I would come back and get a different entrée. I went out on a limb to try the Sweet&Sour chicken and was disappointed. The chicken was bad chicken meat and it was deep fried, then the sweet sauce was painfully sweet and there was no sour in the entrée at all. The service was really nice too! There was a little soup that had spilled into the saucer and the server told me so I wouldn’t burn myself or anything. That was really nice. I also liked how they very neatly wrapped up the remainder of my food to-go and bagged it for me. Although, I feel like this place is more known for being a take-out place as a bunch of people were calling in during my time there to order take-out, I would like to come back again.

Tau Tau is a longtime favorite for Chinese food in the West Springfield/Burke area. We’ve been coming for dine-in or takeout for over 20 years. My favorite for dine-in at dinner is one of the specials that include soup and a spring roll. Typically I will choose Hot and Sour Soup and either Firecracker Chicken(Szechwan Chicken) or Peacock Chicken. The portion size is reasonable so that the accompanying white rice, soup and spring roll can be equally enjoyed. An excellent old-school touch is the hot towel presented at the end of the meal. A small serving of sherbet is also included. An enjoyable dining experience.

My expectations were a little high after reading all the positive Unilocal comments about this place. I was very disappointed when the food didn’t turn out to be as good as the reviews raved. We were pretty hungry when we got around to ordering so we ended up ordering a lot, enough to feed at least 6 people when it was just for my fiancé & I. We were told 40 minutes but we waited almost 1.5 hrs before I called to find out how much longer it would be, I mean we were starving by then. The lady who answered was immediately rude to me as if I somehow offended her when I asked(in a calm polite manner let me remind you) how much longer it would be. If she had informed us when we called to order or had even called us back to explain that it was a busy night & that it may take longer than usual for us to get our food we would’ve been more than understanding. At least we would’ve had the choice to go through with the order or get food from someplace else. In the same sense it also explained why our food wasn’t any good, like maybe they had rushed to make it. Not one dish was satisfying. Poor customer service, bad attitude. We won’t be ordering from them again.

I used to eat here all the time back when I lived in Burke. The food is pretty good, but I have had better Asian food. If I am in the area and in the mood for Chinese food, I’ll stop in to dine in. The restaurant itself looks nice and is pretty clean. If you eat in around dinner time, they will give you a free tiny desert with hot towels. I usually get chicken lo mein with egg drop soup and the egg rolls. My only complaint is the egg rolls has so much vegetables, i might as well be eating a salad. But overall, I would recommend trying this restaurant!

Thought it was carry out but it’s a sit down restaurant. Service and food were both excellent. My kids enjoyed it very much. The Peking duck was very crispy and delicious. Jumbo tasty shrimp.

We used to dine here years ago and the food was good, not outstanding, but still it was good. My favorites were hot and sour soup and pecan prawns(one of their specialty dishes). We got takeout at 1pm on a Sunday. Should be well into the lunch rush. We got our favorites and were severely disappointed. The soup broth was decent, but the tofu appears to have put in raw, so it had no flavor at all. Just slightly unpleasant texture. The pecan prawns were so soft in the breaking that it had to be pealed off to be edible. The overall favors were just barely ok. I guess we can thank them for saving us the calories since we threw half of it away. The only redeeming item was the triple delight soup for two. It was cooked properly with good flavor. I can’t say that I will return nor can I recommend anyone else go there.

My family has been coming here for special occasions for 20 years. They always have quick service and excellent food! Try the Egg Drop Soup, Chicken Anissette, and Pecan Prawn!

When Hunan West was being remodeled we gave Tau Tau a try. Very good ! Hot & Sour soup as well as the buffet is well worth the little extra drive. The personal there are very friendly. When Hunan West reopen, we were excited and happy to have our favorite Chinese open again. But, after first visit back — ultra disappointment to say the least. High prices and much smaller portions.(see review). So now, even though a little farther drive — Tau Tau has become our favorite when we want good Chinese food.

Food was okay but service was awful. Waiters NEVER came by to check on our table or refill waters. Definitely do Not recommend

My first impression wasn’t good. It was 7pm and there are only 2 other dine-in customers in the place, and the 1st employee who sees me hands me a «to go» menu & grumbles«let me know when you’re ready» before turning away. I want to dine in and it’s nowhere near closing time, real nice! A 2nd employee comes over and seats me & ends up being my server & couldn’t have been any nicer. When I place my order he even informs me that if I order it as a «special» I’ll get everything I want plus soup, for less $. Much appreciated. I had the General Tso’s Chicken. I like that you can get brown rice instead of white, you just need to ask. It tasted a bit like the chicken itself may have been a tad burnt, but the sauce was good so it helped mask that making the dish average. I’ve had better, I’ve had worse. The spring roll was fresh & crisp, surprisingly so. Equally surprising was the small serving of sherbet at the end of the meal. Business travelers, they do take American Express, which is nice since a lot of smaller places like this do not.

Let me just start of by saying I love Chinese food. I can eat it all the time and never get sick of it and this place was one of the best places I have been to. They had awesome service too. They offered us a orange sorbet at the end of our meal including a fortune cookie– so sweet! And their sorbet was in a really cute cup. In addition, at the end of our meal they gave us a warm wash cloth to wipe of our hands, which was so thoughtful. They had great a menu and it even included a Thai section. Everything was fairly priced. I got the house special which was worth it because it comes with a choice of an entrée, rice, an egg roll, and choice of soup(hot and sour or egg drop soup). I got the general seo chicken and it was great. You can tell they make it fresh to order because the meat was hot and crispy. The sauce was great too and if you add some of their hot sauce to the mix it made it taste even better! The egg roll was small, but it had shrimp in it! The hot and sour soup was delicious! Loved the house special– make sure you try one. I also got the shrimp fried rice and chicken wings from the appetizer menu to eat together. This was amazing. Their fried rice was filled with shrimp and I loved how they had the crunchy chunks of onions in there. The chicken wings were fried to perfections and made to order! They went perfectly together. Must try this duo!

Very disappointed in this place… they went cheap on each dish I ordered… there was way more veggie in everything than meat, the spring rolls were kid sized, the flavor was off… and I would know I’m the daughter of a chinese restaurant owners that ran their business for 20 years in the early 80s when there wasnt a carryiut on every corner. I ordered moo shu beef(the wrong type of cabbage and too much of it), I have no idea what they did to their pancakes(they werent the floury hand made ones perhaps they went cheap here too and skimped on the flour) combo lo mein(mostly noodle, barely any veggie, chicken, pork, or shrimp. I think they skipped the beef and added something else), and a happy family… which didnt leave my fam happy at all. Worst of all, when I was eating my combination lo mien and chewing my food I felt something hard. I thought hmm perhaps they burned something? I spit it out and behold… someone’s broken pen bit is in my dinner! I found a metal spring from a pen in my lo mein! The only pro I have is they delivered quickly thats it. :-/

Sometimes, you think that one Chinese restaurant is just like the other, then restaurants like Tau Tau pop up and you job you’re wrong. I’m not a great connoisseur of Chinese food, and I’m quite convinced this place isn’t the most authentic, but I can tell when dishes either come from the stock white sauce or the brown sauce — and I’m glad to say that that does not happen at Tau Tau. The flavours are distinct, the dishes definitely taste different and they’re good, too! I had the Chicken Supreme and let me tell you, it was pretty supreme. The black bean sauce was flavourful, the chicken was succulent and all together, it was great! For starters, we had the shrimp tempura, which was too fried for my liking, but it wasn’t disastrous. Special mention for the complimentary sorbet and hot towel at the end. It’s cute, and very appreciated.

My favorite Burke restaurant for Chinese food. The restaurant is so appealing and the owners and staff are so friendly that each visit is enjoyable and warm. Every meal I’ve had here(and there have been hundreds since 1999) were enjoyable. The wait staff is always attentive and accomodating. I love their sweet and sour chicken. They also offer quick take out service and typically have hot food waiting within 15 minutes. Tau Tau is win win!

I have a high bar set for Asian cuisine, all types… So when I was told about this one, I didn’t expect it to jump out. I was pleasantly surprised! We scoured for our normal stuff, Sweet & Sour Chicken, which they put pineapple, green peppers & onions in with… A refreshing change! It is a good white meat with a fluffy batter, not a greasy & dense one! General Tso Chicken, very good. The chicken is always tender & fresh. My only issue is there is no spice even if you tell them spicy. Chicken Supreme is a chicken, veggies in a black bean sauce & it is phenomenal! Sliced chicken, breast meat, just yummy! Beef Delight is my garlic beef, I leave out the fungus & add onions, it has bamboo, celery & water chestnuts. Again, if you want spicy, I think you need to tell them to burn you alive but the flavor is amazing!!! Chicken Lo Mien is good as well, noodles we not chewy or undercooked. Everything we have had was hot & fresh. They put coupons in the valpaks in the mail, they deliver, the staff are all very courteous, I really like their food. Why only 4 stars you ask? I like spice, I want spice… When I ask for it… And they tend to be a little pricy. But worth treating yourself!

Big fan of this takeout Chinese food. Had my family bring it on Xmas day to the hospital after the morning birth of my first child. Maybe it was because I had been eating hospital food for days, or because I was starving but it was delicious. The general tso’s was nicely battered real white meat chicken with slightly spicy tasty sauce and crisped well. The lo mein and fried rice was pretty standard but good and did the trick. The spring rolls are the same but not quite as good as slightly soggy takeout sitting for a while. The wonton soup was excellent with huge tasty wontons and the good broth and crispies. We also the standard bland chicken and veggies which had a nice mix of veggies and fresh taste. Price was good for the area and service was good as well. A must try and will always remember it for my first night with my little girl!

Mariane and I stopped by to check out the lunch buffet. We looked at the lunch menu as well, but the buffet was a great deal! Basically all the items were were interested in was included in the buffet. The staff was a little slow in replenishing the dishes, but I didn’t mind too much because there was always something else to eat and I just had to wait a bit more before more food was added. We enjoyed General Tso’s chicken, shrimp egg rolls, Egg drop soup, Mongolian beef, a sort of a creamy shrimp dish, sesame chicken… It was all wonderful. Since the food is located near the bar as well as the front door, it tends to cool off so it’s not piping hot… Again, I didn’t mind this too much. I believe the buffet is $ 7.50/person and is from 11:30 — 2:30 pm. Drinks are not included.
