don’t volunteer here. the staff is narrow-​minded and it’s its way or the highway. you cannot disagree or provide extra information others in the volunteer group might find interesting or you will be kicked out of training. training is supposed to be a ‘safe environment’ where people should be able to speak their minds freely, but instead it’s a hypocritical one wherein you cannot share things that the staff doesn’t know lest it feel inadequate. you’ll be told you are ‘interrupting the session’ and ‘not in the present’ and therefore won’t make a good sexual assault counselor, all of which is bull. in fact, they emphasize ‘lifelong learning’ but don’t seem to want lifelong learning from someone who is a volunteer. hypocritical, to say the least.
