Wonderful grab and go options in the heart of downtown!

Incredibly fresh and delicious. I could eat here every night… Reasonably priced for sushi, too.

Made to order sushi was so fresh and amazing. It did take quite a while since there was only one person working the register and the food. Worth the wait though.

Went here the other night for take out. Selection in the cooler for Bento boxes was low, but it was 7pm. What was left looked interesting. I liked the fun selection of prepackaged snacks, etc. that I’m assuming one would find in Japanese convenience stores. The selection for types of raw fish was slim(yellow tail, salmon, tuna) and they were out of tuna, so that limited things. Regardless, what I did order was well made and tasty. I like the fact that the rolls are smaller(rolls from some places have roll bites that are so big you can’t really fit them in your mouth — in fact — a lady just almost choked to death at Asiana because her bite of soft shell crab roll got stuck in her throat). Creation of the rolls and sushi took a while, but all in all it was an enjoyable experience, nice atmosphere and good sushi. When you consider most people locally only eat tuna, salmon and yellow tail, then they’re limited selection of fish isn’t a real detractor. Some day I’d hope to see more offerings though.

Cute little place with fresh, great-tasting sushi. I tried a spicy tuna roll to go for $ 5. It could’ve been spicier but was definitely good quality and just the right amount of food. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

Hands-down this is the freshest sushi in town. I have been there on four separate occasions and it has never let me down. Have been waiting for a place like this to open up in Burlington for a while now. Glad it’s here.

Really great food. Especially if you like vegetarian options. Don’t miss the ume shiso and marinated shitake rolls. The only reason they aren’t getting five stars is that the setup of the place is kind of confusing for new customers. But just do yourself a favor and walk in, find whoever is working, and order some rolls and miso soup. You won’t regret it.

Today was my first time trying Bento. To begin with the location is a tiny little spot on college street. It is clean and bright and a nice spot to grab some food. I ordered a California roll($ 5) and a spicy salmon roll($ 6), and they were both delicious and fresh. I was astonished by the high quality of the sushi and the low low cost! I will definitely be back and would definitely recommend Bento as the best sushi in town! Also other Japanese dishes(which I did not try).

This is the freshest sushi I’ve had since moving to Vermont! I’m spoiled, I came from San Fransisco and was used to amazing sushi, especially fresh salmon. That has not been my experience since I moved here. Until now. I walked in and ordered just a salmon roll, to check it out. Not only did he do it right there for me, but it was perfect. The salmon was so fresh I ate it with out soy sauce because I did not want to ruin it. The rice was not only perfect, but not overly packed on so it was not mushy. This is a far cry than even the city market hit or miss prepackaged stuff. At first I thought it was weird there was not much in the case, but this is because he wants it to be as fresh as possible for each costumer. A fresh roll is so very different than even the best prepacked sushi. The rice congeals and the fish hardens in a way that can not be avoided. By making it as fresh as possible he avoids the quality going down. I will be going here from now on when I want sushi, it makes me feel like I’m in the middle of japan town San Fransisco. This place makes me feel like I’m home!

We came here with my friends on Friday and I was back again on Sunday. We really enjoyed our experience here. Don’t understand why some people giving so-so reviews. The ingredients are fresh and service is great. Its friendly and clean. Portions are fine. I didn’t care to look at the drinks in cooler to determine whether if it was full or not, we ordered a sparkling sake instead. Also they have variety of fun snacks like shrimp chips. Cozy lounge seating on the back and a stage to host musicians. they are open till 2am. What’s not to love? Cheers!

After hearing about this place through a friend, I stopped by a few days ago to give it a try. I have been back three out of the previous five days since. There is a good selection of cheap sushi/sashimi with good quality. Though they can get a little bit backed up on orders when it gets crowded, the service is very good. It has a great relaxed atmosphere that lends itself really well to lunch. For about 19 dollars total I was able to get a sashimi appetizer, two inside-out rolls, and a cane sugar cola. This is more than enough to both satisfy and fill you up. I look forward to trying the late night options on weekends.

I popped in here a couple of times, shortly after noon but the refrigerator cases wasn’t full yet. Finally, I stopped in around 1pm, and there were a bunch of bento box options. I didn’t see any prices displayed, but the guy working there said most of the bento boxes are $ 10. They heat up the entrée and serve it with hot rice. I tried the gyoza bento. Pretty good for a grab and go, but I might do the City Market sushi grab and go for a better selection.

I was waiting to write a review until I tried this place a few times… at first the shelves were rather bare and the food options were limited. A few months later, there are many options and I’ve really enjoyed the three or four meals I’ve had. They stock groceries now and the rolls are good. Seems like they reduced the prices on the bento boxes which helps too.

I feel bad giving this place 2 stars because it’s cute and I was so excited to go there. I’ll start by saying the sushi I got was really good. My first impression was that the prices were good too, that was until I witnessed the portion sizes. If you’re going to get sushi here, I most certainly recommend just getting the $ 3 rolls.(From now on I’ll be going to City Market, despite how overpriced I consider it to be, because they offer twice as much for the price + a tomato on the side) Second, this place ain’t no Japanese market, unless of course you’d qualify one as a wall display of 3 various miso soup mixes. The cooler they had was ¾ empty. The bentos did look pretty good. but I wasn’t about to throw down $ 10. There were also mad flies surrounding the sushi chef.

walking by the late at night, i saw the sign that says«traditional japanese food and groceries». i was so excited to come back the next day to have a late breakfast! i’ve been looking for japanese groceries!!! and bento!!! the bento was fine but rather skimpy for the $. i just kept thinking about the quick bento boxes i would pick up in nyc, which would have many more nibbles. :(my favorite part were the pickles – i kept craving them for hours after i left! It’s really a takeaway place but nice enough to sit down and eat quickly. There’s also sushi but I didn’t try it. the only groceries i saw was a single box of natto and a couple of tubs of seaweed salad. kind of a misleading sign if you ask me. but i’d be willing to try it again.

Delicious. I had one of the Chicken bento boxes to go. Very generous portion. They are affiliated with San Sai on Lake Street.
