I frequent this location with my grandmother for take out. She likes the food here because they pretty much cater to the much more mature of age crowd(old people for those who are like, «huh?») who have ailments like high blood pressure and diabetes. So, the food is often lacking seasonings. It’s buffet/cafeteria style dining, so there is a pretty decent variety. They also offer choices of dinner rolls/bread, and desserts. When I go here, I usually get the chocolate crème pie, jello, and soft roll(yeast roll). I don’t actually eat the food because as much seasoning that is required to please my taste buds, I may as well just cook dinner myself. 2 stars because the chocolate pie is bomb. The place is usually clean, the staff keeps lines down(staff attitudes are usually lukewarm at best), and the price is reasonable. Just don’t come here if you expect soul food throwdown for the low.

Ew ew ew ew ew. My grandmother and grandfather went here weekly until my grandmother found a roach in her meatloaf!!! Right on top! Management didn’t act concerned. They left immediately. Never will I ever step foot in this place.

The Burlington location of K & W Cafeteria has good food. And, the food keeps this family returning. It does however need people who know their business. And, that part is a frustration 99% of the time we go there to eat. Husband and daughter ate there Monday night(Dec 21) and got food for the 2 /$ 15.99 special(entrée, 2 veggies, dessert, bread, drink… each tray). The manager, who has modified our bill in the past was at the register and rang up the food at the non-special $ 5+ price. When asked why: «he had forgotten it was the day for the special.» … Really? Seriously? … How many more people paid more than the special pricing? Then, the three of us went there Saturday evening(Dec 26) before returning home from shopping. I had phoned them earlier in the afternoon and asked if they were honoring the 2/$ 16 pricing. The person who answered the phone told me they did not know and would check. He came back to the phone in a few minutes and confirmed that they offered the special on Mondays and Saturdays. However, when we went there for dinner, even after I told the cashier that my husband and I had the special pricing meals and that the daughter had whatever she chose, and the cashier trying to hurry me along although the daughter was still selecting food, told me she had us and I could go on to our table. Husband looked at the receipt before leaving the register and the pricing needed adjustment. Why? Incompetent? Uninformed? Not doing their jobs well? Hoping people will simply pay more than required for their food? I expressed to the cashier when we paid for our food that coming there was a frustration for me. Many times we have eaten at the K & W in Charlotte with a very good satisfaction level. Why are they frustrating in Burlington?

At least the Jello didn’t suck.

Had dinner there tonight. As the line was moving, a man in front of us asked for cucumber salad. The salad server gave him a serving and he complained that there wasn’t enough in the bowl so she picked up more, reached across the glass, the man took the cukes out of the tongs himself. He added the food to the dish on his tray and had also grasped the serving end of the tongs as he took his cukes. The server put the tongs under under a faucet without turning on the water, returned to her spot and then allowed the same man to reach across the glass and drain the excess liquid back into the cucumber salad. Several customers saw the actions of the server and skipped that salad. Disgusting and nasty.

From the rude cashier to non servers I will keep the review short and just say if it were the last place on earth to eat I would skip it.

Okay… probably 2.5 but I don’t think I’ll be running back here for my next meal. The setup is similar to other cafeterias, where there are meat, veggie and bread options. You can add a salad and dessert as well but beware… because everything here’s a la carte. So if you want a meat, two veggies, bread and dessert you are paying for it all separately. But the good news is there prices are not outrageous, so you can probably get a lunch or dinner for less than $ 10. I ordered the chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, broccoli and a roll. The breading on the chicken fingers was as my mom would say«interesting». Not quite like there fried chicken or fish but still crunchy, but I just was not a fan. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were horrible. The potatoes had chucks in them and I’m more of a whipped potato kinda girl(personal preference). The broccoli was over cooked and a little mushy. Ewww. Not for me. The saving grace and reason for the 2.5 score was the staff, they were all very friendly and helpful during our visit. This was not my pick but when you are catching a ride you eat where the driver wants, but if I had my choice… I’d pass on the K&W.

Food more or less like grandma used to make, just now with less salt because grandma has to watch her sodium intake. I got three vegetables, a salad, and dessert for under $ 7. It’s a good place for cheap comfort food. I’ve been to a couple K&W’s over the years and almost always get mashed potatoes and cucumber salad. I tried the chocolate pudding this time; and as another review mentioned, it was not good. My pudding had gelatin lumps in it, weird. Pies and cheesecake are usually good.

Food is okay. Pretty cheap if you know how to build your meal… don’t get the pudding though. It’s not good. I’m not sure if they don’t mix it up well or what but its never good!!!

I visited my hometown of Greensboro, NC this past weekend and stopped at K&W Cafeteria in Burlington as I was heading back north. I like the cafeteria style format, it’s very different from the Maryland, D. C, and Virginia area dining style. There are many options to choose from. I chose the turkey with dressing, mac&cheese, string beans, sweet potato soufflé and jello. Everything was tasty with the exception of the Mac & cheese. It lacked flavor and the texture was creamy and not cheesy. I expected more from a southern restaurant. Other than that the experience was great. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The best thing of all are the bathrooms. There were a lot of patrons but the restrooms were very clean.

I like the choices you have at a cafeteria and the food at the K&W in Burlington is good. It is always clean and the staff is very friendly. My family enjoys the variety of meats and vegetables offered. If you do not enjoy good Southern home cooking, then this may not be the place for you. If you like fried okra and country style steak with rice, or broccoli with cheese sauce and roast beef, or fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy, this might be your place. The country style steak is always my choice. My dad likes the chicken pan pie(it is made in a pan). My wife(God bless her, she is a Yankee) usually gets some kind of chicken and a salad. The vegetables are on the long cooked side, but most of the southern favorites are there. Cabbage, black eyed peas, fried okra… The desserts are usually pretty good as well. It is a cafeteria after all, you get a tray and silverware. You walk down a line and someone places what you ask for on plates for you. It is not a fancy place, but if you are eating with two or three generations and don’t mind not having table service give it a try.
