Wonton soup, crab Rangoon, and Sesame chicken were ONPOINT. Phenomenal food and a kind and friendly staff. Would travel the hour+ just to dine here again. Do yourself a favor and try the coffee, too. A+

Mei Yuan sits in a little house on the west side of US281 about ¼ mile south of SR29 in Burnet. I visited around 3:30 pm so I was the only customer. The service was excellent. I ordered the mixed sweet and sour which came with rice, an eggroll, and soup. I chose Hot & Sour Soup and Fried Rice. The waitress brought some sweet & sour sauce with the egg roll and brought crispy noodles to put in the soup. The food was served so fresh I had to wait to eat it because it was so hot. The portions were so generous that I could not finish it all, so I brought the rest home for my wife. They employ a veteran which is a plus to me. I hope to bring my family here soon to eat.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Dining here is like visiting an old friend’s house. The staff are always friendly and everything is made fresh when you order. The owner/chef is super nice and very accomodating. If it’s not too busy, he’ll come out and make sure personally that you’re enjoying your meal. The prices are reasonable and the selection extensive. Our favorites are the egg drop soup, szechuan shrimp, the jalapeño shrimp, the calamari special and especially the catfish(which isn’t on the menu). If you live in the area and haven’t tried Mei Yuan, I highly recommend it. And if you’re passing through, it’s a warm friendly place to relax and enjoy an excellent meal. We live about 15 miles away but still make the drive several times a month.

There were seven of us, and ALL of us highly recommend this restaurant. We had egg rolls, dumplings, crab Rangoon, wonton soup, egg drop soup, fried egg noodle with veggies, house lo mein, shrimp lo mein, sweet and sour pork and chicken zucchini. Fantastic food, fantastic service, and every dish is cooked to order by the owner himself. You would do yourself a disservice to not drive over here and eat like little pigs!

This has to be the best Chinese food I have had in a long time. There were seven different things ordered. Wonton soup, Kung Poe chicken, orange chicken, Szechuan beef, broccoli chicken, chicken lo mein, crab Rangoon, and generals chicken. Every thing was amazing. We travel to Austin periodically. This will definitely be a food stop for any occasion.

GREAT food, wonderful service, and reasonably priced — we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The owner greeted us to make sure everything was good. Our waitress, Sierra, did an outstanding job. Located in a quaint older house, it was clean and comfortable. Best kept secret in Texas.

Never judge a book by it’s cover. We were on our way back from San Antonio via US281 and decided to take a break at Mei Yuan 1 Restaurant. The owner was friendly and kind. He greeted us like family from the moment we walked in the door. The food was delicious and the flavor is beyond amazing. It is by far the best general tso and sesame chicken I have tasted in Central Texas. We will definitely be coming back here because this restaurant is worth the 50+ mile drive from Fort Hood/Killeen!

This restaurant is in an old wood-frame house, the site of a successful Mexican restaurant which relocated. I’ve passed it many times and am impressed with the number of cars parked there at mealtimes. It survives now for several years, a good sign in a small town. On the road a couple of days ago around 3:30, I’d eaten a light breakfast and missed lunch. Needing some calories, I popped in. What a surprise! I ordered orange chicken with steamed rice and a serving of eight fried dumplings. Everything came out of the kitchen in good order. My plate came with wonton soup as a starter which was superb, obviously homemade. The fried dumplings were deep-fried instead of pan-fried, but otherwise delicious. The chicken was lightly battered and the orange sauce had intense flavor which was awesome. Red chilies added just the right heat to match the sweet orange. I ate half of everything and took the other half for later. The flavors continued to meld making an excellent lunch today. The waitress was knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. The owner/chef came by to chat and welcome a new diner, great customer relations. I will definitely be returning to this wonderful establishment. In sum, fresh ingredients, traditional preparation, excellent flavor, reasonable prices, no MSG, served and prepared by knowledgable, accomplished, attentive staff.

Had Mei Yuan for the first time last night. I wasn’t sure what to expect, being in a small little country town… BUTOHMY, this was good. I had the Jalapeño Shrimp, boyfriend had the Shrimp Fried Rice, and we had the Vegetarian Egg Rolls and Steamed Dumplings for starters. Quan, the owner was very nice and cooked everything himself. The prices are reasonable, and the food was perfectly seasoned and flavored. We will definitely eat here again, as we can’t find Chinese food this good back home for such a great price!

This place is fantastic! I stopped in here for lunch and because they offer free wifi. I was so impressed! The food was FRESH and delicious! It’s family owned so the chef/dad came out to greet me and check on everything. The family and staff was also sitting down for their late lunch and offered me more of their freshly prepared dishes!(I had to decline as I’d already scarfed down my meal.) =) The restaurant is in an old house so it has that homey feel – warm setting, brightly lit by windows and real flowers placed around. This is a great place for friends to grab lunch, or a family to come for dinner, or even a couple to have a sweet and cozy date night. I was so pleased to find this gem in burnet! I’ll be back!

I just have to say this is the BEST kept secret in burnet and probably Texas. AMAZING food. Friendly service. Pricing is great. This is the best chinese food I have ever had in Texas. This restaurant was removed from a house and I just loved it. It was like visiting a friend for dinner.

For Burnet, this restaurant is way above average. Fresh and tasty food, good lunch specials including soup and egg roll. I had the combo Lo Mein and it was terrific and generous portion as well.
