Mac’s Diner is no longer there. It has become the Sit n’ Chat Diner 2.

We went there last night for dinner & ordered paninis. They came on toasted flatbread, similar to a pita. We told the waitress that this is not a typical panini & she just raised her arms in the air like«what do you want me to do about it?» & then we told the cashier/owner & she said that’s the bread that we can get. Oh really! Other diners don’t seem to have any problem getting a more traditional panini bread & putting the sandwich in a French press. She then told me that’s the way that paninis are made in Italy. Well, my dinner partner is from Italy & he said that’s not true plus… we’re not in Italy. The diner is nothing more than ok. Some of their prices are pretty high so you really have to do better than this if you want to charge high prices. I think that there are much better diners than this one.

I came here today with my family. We all ordered a mix of meals — omelette, pasta, chicken salad, tuna melt, etc. each meal came out very quickly. The service was quite good especially given it was a busy diner. The meals were pretty good for the price. The omelette was a bit salty for my tastes, but was satisfying. The waitress also came by frequently to fill up our coffee. Overall were quite satisfied with our meals.

This was my first ever visit to Mac Diner. It was 5:15pm on a Saturday afternoon. I questioned myself if the place was even open since there were so few cars in the lots. I ordered Pasta special #5 which is Mediterranean Pasta. I ate my meal while watching Bernie Williams hit the game winning home run on a Yankees Classics rebroadcast. I enjoyed the rice chicken soup and the chocolate pudding but the main meal was so dry and flavorless. I didn’t eat more than the amount that was necessary. At least service is pleasant. I could had used another glass of water but oh well.

A previous reviewer called this place«mediocre at best», they were right. I should have known when I walked in at dinner time and the place was empty. I ordered the Yankee pot roast dinner. The soup could be used to tar a roof. The pot roast had no flavor. The potato pancake was equally flavorless and greasy. The cake that came for dessert had been frozen and defrosted. If the waitress hadn’t been so friendly, this would have been a one star review.

Great diner. Friendly staff, very good portions, reasonable prices. Food service is quick and savory. The omelets are delicious and come in many varieties, bottomless cup of coffee, nice environment. Definitely recommend MacS Diner for breakfast.

Good food and very attentive waitstaff. What else would you wish for? I had a steak omelet for a brunch on the way to snowtubing, and I was very pleased by the portion and the taste of the dish. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. He reminded me that good percentage of the success of restaurants depend on their waitstaff and how they treat customers. I will stop by again when I go snowtubing!

The portions are big but bland. The fish seems frozen and the vegetables seem canned. Worst of all for a NJ diner, the bread is stale. There are certainly far better options along Route 23.

After two trips for breakfast I can only say that Mac’s is slightly below average for a dinner. Biggest problem I found was the toast. I don’t know if it is stale or what but I don’t think toast is supposed to be hard and brittle to the point it breaks into pieces.

Went for breakfast with my wife and kids, asked for three orders of turkey sausage, got three orders of big, fat bologna sausage that was burnt and looked like it had been aging for several days after being cooked. Pancakes were awful. Service was lackluster. Plenty of other diners in the area to go to instead of this one.

My husband and I go there a couple times a week and have never been disappointed. Try the pasta with seafood or prime ribs. Most yes I just eat half as the portions are so large.

Food was average for diners in the area. Service left much to be desired. As an example, my wife ordered a sandwich and before the waitress left she asked if she could have waffle fries instead of regular fries. The waitress just looked at her, said yes, but wrote nothing down. Considering we were only people in the place, I figured maybe she would just remember to enter it as such, but we had our doubts. Needless to say, no waffle fries ever appeared. To top things off, right as we were leaving, entire ceiling tile file right onto one of the empty tables. None of the staff seemed all that surprised…

The service was very pleasant in this NJ diner, but it was the only plus. We had spinach pie, which was soggy and came with«Greek» salad containing black olives, red peppers and carrots, preceded by a canned lobster bisque that I didn’t finish. Fries on the burger were good, but the burger was unimpressive at best. It made sense that there was no wait on a Saturday night, but I will give breakfast a shot sometime just to see if they do better.

We happened to be in the area and it was late at night. Only options were fast food(nope) or a diner… so we opted for this diner even though there a couple nearby. Don’t let the name fool you. It’s not some rundown shack. It’s actually a well kept, clean and organized diner. It’s diner food. So your expectations needs to be that. Service was great! Prices are lower than other diners I have been to. Quality of food was ok. I had a grilled cheese with bacon w/a side of disco fries. Gravy was very salty but otherwise it hit the spot. The grilled cheese was nothing to write home about. Average. The future Mrs. had the vegetable skillet which was good. Lots of potato’s, mushrooms, spinach… it gives you that healthy feeling despite probably not being very good for you. Overall it’s a good stop for diner food.

I’m glad I wasn’t Unilocaling when we first came here a few years ago because it sucked then… but we ended up here today after the pompton queen said breakfast would be about a 45 minute wait(what??). SOoo we trudged up 23 and stopped at Macs. Pretty standard breakfast nothing to rave about but everything was good and not overly greasy. Their homefries don’t taste like dirty flat cooktop which is always appreciated. I always order my eggs overhard because although I love a nice gelatinous runny egg, if I get uncooked whites the snot appear ruins my meal. They cooked my eggs perfectly so not completely hard yolk but still cooked through. They give you a huge amount of bacon… not that I’d ever complain about that. Coffee was meh but I still drank it. I’d def come back here it was a huge improvement from our first experience — which to be honest I don’t even remember why we hated it but it was enough to keep us away for 5+years. But yea we’ll be back.

This is our Sunday Breakfast place and has been for 16 years. 99% of the time the food is well prepared and the service is good. Once in a very rare while we will catch the kitchen or the server on an off day but it is very rare. There is nothing special here mind you. Good solid diner food with hot coffee. My one son loves the breakfast burrito and my other boy is a scrambled eggs and bacon kid. I will try an omelet or french toast, Missus loves their corned beef hash and eggs. The servings are large, the hash browns are tasty, the coffee is good. A good, clean, friendly place for a Sunday Breakfast.

Been coming to this diner for years, and I love it! The food is great, and they allow substitutions without alot of grumbling or upcharges. The friend that I usually go with doesn’t really like things the way they are, and always makes changes, they are more than accommodating! This diner is family-owned by a really nice italian family, a family that has high standards as far as food goes. The italian recipies are the family’s own, and the cooks have also infused some mexican dishes(like quesadillas, guacamole and fresh salsa), and they do have the standard diner fare that’s very good. A few of the waitresses have been there a long time, so they are familiar with a lot of the ‘regulars’, such as myself and a few of the other people I go with. They’ve been very accomodating of my yo-yo dieting :), and when I ask for 1 piece of cheese, they will give it to me instead of «forgetting» and piling on the cheese.

Standard NJ diner, everything from the cheap 2-egg breakfast to full dinner specials. Never had anything bad here, though some dishes fare better in the hands of their cooks than others. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a giant menu. My only complaints would have to be that it’s not 24 hours, and that they don’t have a liquor license. Mac’s isn’t really anything out of the ordinary, but in the case of a diner that’s not exactly a bad thing.

Great local diner! I have been here countless times, and it remains a favorite NJ diner of mine. The food, no matter what, has always been excellent. I usually stick with the classics like their Gyro… how could you go wrong? We have had everything though from Seafood Fra-Diavlo to veal dishes which were excellent. One of my favorite items is the chicken in a basket. Fresh, tasty fried chicken. No matter what you get, this is rated a 4 because of the value. Meals are priced right, and you get soup, salad, desert, etc. The Great place to bring the family for a cheap, great meal.

Mac’s Diner on Route 23 is your standard Jersey diner, but the food is reasonably priced and excellent. My wife regularly orders the Trio Francese over pasta and I order whatever I feel like having, and the food is consistently good. It can get quite busy at times, but it’s definitely because it’s a popular place. If you’re in the area and you’re looking for a diner, definitely stop in and try out Mac’s. You might run into me and my family there.
