I SOOOOO wanted to love this place because it’s close and it’s a SMOKEBBQ place! Around the corner! We got ribs, brisket, shrimp and assorted sides. The ribs were good, but not GOOD. The brisket was good, actually better the second day. The shrimp was very flavorful and the best-tasting thing we got from there(which is sad for a bbq place). The sides were collard greens(bleh), broccoli rabe was NOT good, no one enjoyed the baked beans. The corn pudding was GREAT and we all fought over the little side dish. Not eating here again. It’s the second time I’ve been, and neither time was I really gung-ho to come back.

went for the first time this past sat. had the half rack of ribs dry rubbed. The ribs were ok, but a bit dry. the reason for three stars is that their sides were great. Awesome potato salad and mac and cheese. would go back and try something different next time

Fabulous home cooking. Virtually everything is homemade, even the potato chips. The ribs were huge and my pulled pork sandwich was loaded with meat. There’s a large selection of sides that were equally tasty. Regrettably, we were there too late to order what must be wonderful bread pudding. Save that for next time.

This place is OUTSTANDING! I’ve passed by it a number of times and decided to give it a try. I ordered the pulled pork platter with the NC sauce, cole slaw and sweet potato side. The portions were very generous. I almost couldn’t finish my plate! Everything is made to order. So, if you are expecting your food in 2 minutes, you might be disappointed. If you can wait for a home cooked meal, it is well worth it. I spoke with the owners for a while. This is a family run place(I’d rather give my business to a local family place than a corporate box), and they were very friendly and sincere. They have daily desert specials as well. Homemade pecan pie and deep fried Oreos are on the menu. If I had room, I would’ve given one of those a shot, but I was beyond full. If you like pulled pork, or BBQ, do yourself a favor and check this place out.

A small place in Butler Nj with a bunch of nice people and nice food. The food tastes Fresh and Tasty. We had the pulled Pork platter and the meatloaf Platter along with an app of Sausage bites. The meatloaf was enough to fill me up and it was moist and tasty! the sides I had were Baked beans and the corn soufflé Both yum! My wife had the Pulled Pork platter with Collared Greens and Broccoli Rabe. All were Fresh and Cooked Right! The sauce we chose for the pork was a Vinegar based Carolina style and it was tangy, and light which was perfect for the summer! The Sausage bites were wrapped in Bacon an had a little bite. Very tasty! I will try the Ribs next time because I saw them after I ordered and they looked Good too! A great home made touch was the biscuit that came with every platter. it was Great! I wanted more and they change often I think so you can look forward to a different flavor on your next visit! Yum!

Awesome flavor… brisket 11 bucks. Super good. Save 12 hrs of smoking meat and enjoy. Easy to pick up on the way home from work

Great home-smoked BBQ. We got the pork ribs, beef ribs, brisket and sides for two people — needless to say we’re taking home leftovers, portions are not small. Friendly owners — we’ll be back!

It’s been a year since my last visit and I figure I should give it a second chance my review from the first time has not changed. The only reason I rated the review so high is the food is ok but it is still not BBQ.

Great food! Small mom and pop place. They make you feel right at home and so does the food. Perfect portions! For $ 25 me and my hubby were stuffed. I had the pulled pork platter and he had dry rub ribs. Both were great. Much better than settling for some lame chain food place on a Friday night.

We were hesitant to go in when we got there a little past 7 on a Saturday night since they close at 8 and we saw only one table occupied but I’m very glad we ending up going in. This is definitely a small place run by a mom and pop as other reviewers say, but we felt very welcomed when they put together the tables for our party of 7. Though they do close at 8, we were told to take our time, which was very nice of them. We were given complimentary potato and sweet potato chips, which were delicious. We ordered a full chicken, full rack, Philly cheese steak sandwich, shrimp skewer, mac n cheese, corn pudding, baked beans, potato salad, and chicken chunks. Everything was quite good but we enjoyed the ribs the most. We left full and happy, with the exception of my one niece who complained that everything was too smoky, though she probably was just unhappy because she wanted Mexican.

This place had very good food. I ordered the shrimp & ‘wet’ ribs combo with sweet potato casserole. The portion was generous and the meat was expertly prepared. My son had the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of baked beans and home made potato chips. My daughter had hamburger sliders with a side of home made mac & cheese. Everything was absolutely delicious, fresh & seemed to be home made. Prices were decent. We will definitely visit again; I recommend it.

Mom and pop run business with quality BBQ food, especially for a small suburb. Our group had ribs, brisket, and pulled chicken. All were cooked well, flavor was robust and portions were very generous. For sides, we had Mac n cheese, broccoli rabe, corn pudding, and baked beans. Each was very hearty… beans and mac & cheese being the two best. As for watch outs: biscuits were so-so, parking is annoying, and the small sides(for platters) were a tad too small. Lastly, we ordered takeout on a Saturday evening, food was prepared quickly(approx 20 mins) and customer service was great.

Up in Smoke is a pretty official barbecue spot. Why you ask? One word: Smoker You really can’t get anymore real barbecue than that! When you walk into the place, you might be thrown off, by the lack of barbecue aroma that one would expect from a barbecue joint… It’s actually pretty genius; they have all thier smokers upstairs, so all the smoke can be vented out properly. By definition, this is a «mom and pop» place. I’m not 100% on this, but I’m pretty sure it’s a husband and wife who own and operate this tasty place. I was asking the guy about some of the specials and you can tell they really love what they do. He was telling me about a pulled pork special that they were going to run, where they take the pork skin and fry it to puff it up and then top it on top of the sandwhich… It sounded really good. On my most recent visit, I had a beef brisket sandwhich, which was excellent. Every bite had a juicy, smokey flavor to it. As a side, I had collard greens, which were made perfectly and fresh made potato chips. Most menu items come with a side dish or two, but I recommend getting an additional side dish. I’ve been living in Butler for about seven months now, and I think I found my new favorite take-out spot!

Lady at the counter was very sweet and let us try some samples of the sides. I got the pulled pork platter(North Carolina style) with two sides of corn pudding and coleslaw. I was blown away! The food is so good and fresh. Defiantly an unexpected surprise from Butler Main Street.

So those who read my reviews know that I love good barbecue. I spent this afternoon googling and researching barbecue and came across Up In Smoke. Decided to go there. Didn’t realize that they close at 7 pm. Glad I was there in time. Starting with the food, I had the ribs and 2 meat platter. Four ribs ad two six ounce portions of meat. Ribs dry, pulled pork with Carolina sauce and pulled chicken with barbecue sauce. Tasted the pulled pork and, WOW! Great Carolina sauce! Ribs were very meaty. Chicken was tasty, but disappointed that their classic sauce is Baby Ray’s and not homemade. Still very good. Sides, corn pudding, baked beans and cole slaw excellent, but as others have commented, small portions. The collard greens could have used a little vinegar. Overall, food very good. The owners were a very nice couple. Very friendly. Atmosphere, well let’s just say, you don’t go there for the atmosphere. The only other drawback is that their hours are 11 – 7. Very happy to find this place. Looking forward to going back!

We ordered three platters(brisket, pulled pork with North Carolina BBQ, and wet ribs) with a mix of sides(baked beans, corn pudding, sweet potato casserole, broccoli rabe, collard greens, and pasta salad) and brought them home to share. All the meats were great, lean but not dried out, and flavorful. The ribs were tender, coming off the bone with just the right amount of resistance. Pork had enough sauce for flavor but was not drowning in it. Sides did look small, but you get enough meat that the portion really is adequate. Beans, sweet potato, and corn pudding were the best. Collard greens and broccoli rabe were cooked thoroughly and not as flavorful. Pasta salad was nothing special. Overall good food and good value.

Yummy! I got pork, Texas beef, salad, and spicy sausage wrapped in bacon that was my favorite(what can I say…) Everything was very good. The price was fair. The service was friendly. The only thing keeping them from 5 stars I thought the beef and pork could hv used a little light gravey. That a side this is a great little place.

Had a half rack of ribs– perfectly seasoned and smoked and the right amount of sauce. Great sides– beans and slaw. If you’re in the area and like BBQ it’s a must go.

While this place doesn’t have the«best» ever pulled pork I’ll ever tasted it’s pretty darn close. The owner is super nice and has a great story of starting the restaurant. The North Carolina BBQ sauce is my fav… the coleslaw is awesome and the Mac and cheese is good too. I’m hear for the second time tonight and looking forward to trying the baked beans. Oh and the rice pudding is to die for! Def nice addition to butler.
