I was directed to Calvert by the innkeeper in Houston(wanting to stay off the major highway back to Dallas) and the name of this restaurant says it all — it was serendipity. I ordered one main course and appetizers and enjoyed them all(and so did my furry friends). I also enjoyed the paintings/drawings done by local school district students that were displayed on the walls. The subject appeared to be a significant person in their life. The art depicted mothers, coaches, teachers… especially poignant was a teacher that appeared in many of the portraits, who I found out, was a beloved teacher who had passed away. I spent quite a while observing the art and was blown away by the emotion that was transmitted from the work these kids/young adults had created. The owner provided more information about the art, the town and historic houses, and the beloved chocolatier that had just passed away. Even though I spent less than two hours in Calvert, I have thought about the experience many times since then and won’t hesitate to add a bit of time to my journey to pass through again!

Constantly good, quality food. Friendly staff, clean environment. Classy menu items in a very casual atmosphere. Owners cook and wait tables. My favorite are the crab cakes and daily specials. Breakfast is awesome too. Great addition to the area.

Since my last review, we have been back to this place several times, and we still love it! The people are really nice and they’re always happy to see you, and the food has been at a consistently good quality. I have also found a new favorite here– The Cheese Enchiladas with the Verde sauce… YUM! These are some of the best cheese enchiladas I’ve ever had. I’m always happy to be coming here.

I came here for lunch while passing through town with a coworker. It’s located in the historic downtown commercial strip. The menu was fairly extensive, with sandwiches, salads, and entrees. My coworker and I each ordered sandwiches, myself the BLT with turkey bacon and a side of fried okra, and her a tuna sandwich with a side salad. For the sandwiches, there’s a choice of bread and cheeses. My BLT had an option of regular or turkey bacon with no price difference, which was nice. There was also no upcharge for choosing our own sides, as opposed to what was offered. The food came quickly and was good. I was disappointed in my fried okra, as there wasn’t much and it was very salty, but the rest was good. There are few options in Calvert, but this is a decent one. I would go back again.

Zorro’s is a fairly new addition to the Hwy 6 thoroughfare through Main Street Calvert. Not a ton of options in this town when a decent laid back family friendly meal is all you’re looking for. Prices were very reasonable and everything we tried was good to very good. Home made salsa served with tortilla chips is a bit spicy for young children or people sensitive to spicy food but very good. All the sampled food tasted of quality ingredients prepared with above the norm care. I think with a little more attention to creating a warmer atmosphere inside this place would be the kind of stop you’d plan to make on a tip through Calvert, not just a stop of convenience. A nice addition to Calvert casual eateries.

Service was slow. Flies everywhere we couldn’t even enjoy our food. Mashed potatoes undercooked for one of us, I had burger was terrible fries undercooked. Now I am sick as a dog. Wouldn’t go back if you paid me to.

Wow this was a great find. Green Chili enchiladas, taco with a home made shell, black beans, rice and a chili relleno. Green chili is like I have had in Abq. Thats the Weds special. After that with the chips and salsa before and the cherry cobbler after, I was really stuffed. Food is eclectic, from chicken fried steak to open face burger covered in green chili. I saw a large chicken fried steak and what a monster. Guy in the restaurant said he wouldn’t get much work done that afternoon. The place was loud inside and its an old building so on the warm side. But the people there were great. Really good food so stop by if you’re passing through or make a trip there. Heard the breakfast was great to.
