This restaurant has closed… I am not surprised at all, this restaurant was absolutely awful. Easily the worst Mexican food that I’ve ever had! I couldn’t even take a bite out of one of the items that I was served.

Drove past last week, Looks closed as there was Real Estate sign over the Cinco De Mayo sign, not surprised. Late 2013, I called it mediocre in my review, that was generous.

The food was tasteless. Then you have to pay for chips, no chip and salsa. Would not recommend to anyone.

Went here with my fiancé and I’m really glad we did. Ordered the beef and chicken tacos and they were both delicious. The chicken was a bit dry but still tasty. Margarita was AMAZING! Went during happy hour, which was from 1 – 10? I’m not exactly sure but it was only $ 5.00 for margaritas. My fiancé also got the day of the dead chili beer and it was pretty neat. The beer was pretty damn spicy and different. They had a few other different selections that were going to have to try. $ 35.00 for appetizer, 5 tacos, beer and soda is not a bad deal. Will be back!

Ambience: B+ Cleanliness: A Customer Service: D Food: F Overall Rating: D– Price –Moderate. It certainly wasn’t Taco Bell prices but it wasn’t like you were eating at a five star restaurant either. I’ve gone to other Mexican places that were a bit less expensive but all and all the prices were pretty standard. Atmosphere –Its quite cute. We were seated in this big open room(lots of windows) with mexican dresses and sombreros decorating the walls and ceiling. There was a live band playing«traditional» Mexican music but they weren’t very good. We were happy when they took a break honestly. Customer Service –This is where it all falls apart. Our waiter, or I should say our main waiter, wasn’t bad himself but the people he had helping him out were terrible. One of the people who brought out our drinks didn’t speak English, which in and out of itself is fine, but when we tried to tell her the drink order was wrong she simply informed us that she«Didn’t understand» and walked away. Personally I believe she should have brought over the main waiter or at least asked someone who spoke English to translate. –The next complaint is about the management. Our food had come out spoiled and we explained we had no desire to eat it or anything else the manager sent his waiter to tell us we still had to pay for it and then proceeded to ignore us for about fifteen minutes until I finally informed them that my father was a Riverhead Police officer and if there was a problem I could call him down to sort it out. Food –As I said above, the food was spoiled(or at least the chicken was). I mean it had literally gone bad and they served it to us. You could smell as soon as it came, it was horrible and the guy attempted to tell us the smell was just from the sauce. The same sauce was on the beef but that didn’t smell rancid. I can’t speak for how to food would taste when its not spoiled though I’ll never find out because I have no desire to go to a play that would serve their customers something to clearly subpar.

I talked my wife into coming here, which was hard given that we have to drive past the Mesquite Taco Truck to get to this place. We arrived around 5:30pm during the week and the place was completely empty. I figured it wasn’t a good sign but went in anyway against my better judgement. Our orders were simple. But so was the waiter. He was one of those waiters that does not write things down. I can’t stand going to a restaurant and ordering from someone that refuses to write down my order. Why? Because 99% of the time it always comes out fucked up. So fast forward a few moments, we now have our drinks and this guy is taking our order. Its probably the most simple order I’ve ever had at a Mexican joint. 1 chicken taco, 1 pork taco, add cheese to both He looks at me and says ‘OK, no problem’ My wife orders 3 beef tacos, no guacamole He looks at her and says ‘OK’ 10 – 15 minutes later the food comes out. I get 2 tacos, 1 sausage and 1 pork with no cheese. My wife gets 2 beef and 1 pork, all with guacamole. 5 fucking tacos and not 1 comes out how we asked. We ate about 1 taco between the both of us, paid the bill and left. I wont be back nor would I ever recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go to the taco truck!

Still disappointed. How does this qualify as authentic Mexican cuisine? There are more American dishes on the menu than anything else. I am so confused. How is this place still open? The place was dead the three times I’ve tried it. I keep going thinking maybe I caught them on a bad night or… they’ll get better. But it’s the same. The waiter never made eye contact. He came over so often he might as well have sat with us. And when I asked him questions about the food he said he had no idea but could ask. It’s tragic because we really need a good Mexican restaurant around here. I’d steer clear. Taco bell has a higher Unilocal rating. That speaks volumes.

I’ve heard about this place from a couple of people so we finally went to check it out for Mother’s Day lunch and I am honestly not the least bit impressed. The food was alright– I got the chicken(which is called just that ‘chicken’), the rest got fajitas, quesadillas, pargo frito, tacos and as appetizers we got the artichoke dip, the ceviche and the cheese fondue. The food as I said before was alright, but it didn’t really stand out to me. The best part were the margaritas. Now the reason why I probably won’t go back is the service. It took about 15 minutes upon being seated down for the waitress to come and take our drink order(even though the place was nearly empty). The appetizers took literally 30 minutes to come out, and when the entrees finally came out we noticed that they got an order wrong. We asked several times throughout the meal for things like glasses of water, for extra napkins and extra plates to share dessert and it seemed like the waitress just didn’t care enough to bring those things to us in a timely matter and as I mentioned before the place was nearly empty so bringing us more napkins shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. Overall, the service was terrible but I would be willing to look past that if the food was outstanding, which it isn’t so I probably would not go back.

I’m only giving it 4 stars because I have only been here once. Authentic food, not like the chains that claim to be real. If you’re used to the Americanized over cheesed foods, than you must keep an open mind to something unlike what you’re used to. I look forward to coming back for more! The mole sauce on the enchiladas was so good along with the tacos, rice, and beans. They even have real Mexican coffee(the bean not the coffee cocktail).

Cinco de Mayo doesn’t look like much from the outside, and the décor inside is meh but the food is wonderful! The nachos were HUGE and the meat was cooked perfectly. The guacamole was fresh and had chunks of avocado that were delicious! My only complaint is that they had a TV on in the dining room, and it was quite loud.

The food is great and also affordable. I would say it is in the top 90% range for quality and freshness. I use to be a chef at several top restaurants in NYC and know what good is. Most negative reviews on this site complain about the ambiance or not meeting their expectations. The food is great and the service is wonderful too. I would recommend not being so uptight or picky about what you are getting and just try to enjoy yourself.

Al pastor tacos are great! Really good guacamole. Fish tacos are also well done. Sauce with tacos is perfect, not spicy. Enchilada Verde is spicy, especially for the Italian bred stomachs. Service was ok: our waitress was nice and accommodating.

The service was very sweet and the waitresses very attentive(we were the only ones in there). I was saddened that their liquor license was still pending because I was so hoping for a pitcher of Sangria. The food was just ok… nothing I would write home about. The presentation was beautiful but It was flavorless for authentic Mexican food. My 9 year old didn’t care for the tacos. She said the meat was too hard. My husbands chicken and salsa verde bland. My shrimp was yummy… but how can you mess up shrimp with peppers and onions? :(We most likely won’t go back again.

Forget the authentic argument; as a white guy from central LI, if it tastes good and I don’t feel like garbage afterwards, it’s good food. Their tostada(sans beef for $ 10.86 to go) was the real deal, a fresh, clean, well-portioned meal; unfortunately, even following positive reviews by the Times and Newsday, the big space was dead during the dinner rush on a nice Thursday. The location is kind of awkward(across from the FedEx center) and would do very well with a large al fresco space for the drinking crowd, but the food did the trick on my visit.

I decided to check out Cinco de Mayo because a couple of the reviews said«authentic Mexican». Clearly those people are not Mexican. I am Mexican. I spent my childhood in Mexico and my teenage years in Los Angeles, so you can see I’ve been spoiled when it comes to my people’s food. I ordered 3 tacos. Taco 1: Chorizo, It was served cold with guacamole. Chorizo is should be served with red chili sauce. The taste was so/so Taco 2: Al pastor, was again served cold with guacamole. It was clearly cooked in a pan with oil not slow cooked over an open fire. The taco was so greasy, I had to spit it out in my napkin. Taco 3: Tripe, served with guacamole. In all fairness I did not eat it, since I was so grossed out by the Al pastor taco. My complaint with this taco would be that I ordered it extra crispy and it looked under cooked. One last thing, the services is the worst. I ordered a Mexican coke and I ended up with an American Pepsi. The service is slow. So far the worst Mexican food I’ve had on Long Island maybe even my life.

This authentic Mexican restaurant opened up in the building formerly occupied by The Village Crossroads, which has been closed for several years. The ambiance of the place is a little odd, Sort of $ 0.99 store deco and lime green paint accents. The waitstaff is super friendly and accommodating. The menu is authentic Mexican food and not your Americanized crap, so be prepared for something different. this is not Moe’s, Chipotle, Taco Bell etc. You can actually get tongue, tripe or other beef body parts not typically served in your run of the mill spots. I ordered the horchata(rice, milk, cinnamon, vanilla beverage) which was flavorful but had way too much ice in it. We ordered five tacos to share, a couple fish tacos, pineapple seasoned pork tacos, and grilled beef tacos. The pineapple seasoned pork tacos were my favorite, although they could be a little juicier. Tacos come in traditional double corn tortillas, no flour tortilla here, so expect a different, grainier tortilla with more flavor. Overall, I would return, hopefully order a couple ‘ritas and a few tacos. I think there are some growing pains that will be worked out soon.

We went when they first opened. The food was great but the service was a painful experience. I think they planned on having a mostly Hispanic clientelle and there was a serious ESL communication gap. Then again, the food was great and the prices reasonable. Went again this week and the service issue has been addressed. Overall excellent and convenient neighborhood place. It’s BYOB now but I keep forgetting to bring some Dos Equis!

I’m not sure what the previous reviewer was talking about — granted, the waitstaff’s english is not perfect, which results in a bit of a slow ordering process, but the food is prepared fresh and is very authentic. The décor is very basic, but it’s clean — I’m sure the owners of this small business will continue to decorate as the restaurant gets going(as I write this it’s only been open about a month). Try this place out, be patient and I think you’ll be impressed.
