If there were 0 stars, it would be too many. This was the worst service ever. We waited 30 minutes before our order for drinks was taken and it was taken only because one member of our party hunted down a waitress. We were served 1 pickle to cut up ourselves and share 6 ways. We asked for more, but they never came. Our meals came. 3 were inedible. We didn’t bother to send them back. The thought of waiting another hour for them to correct the meal was not appealing. There were no offers for more drinks or desserts. That’s ok because we would not have said yes. My advice to future diners, McDonalds would be 2 steps up. Go there!

This was the worst experience ever, the service was terrible, the food was over cooked. We got some one else’s bill. Our bill was given to some one else. If you want an adventure in dining this is the place. You never know what you will get

Disgusting. I don’t know if it is new management or cutting costs but when we went there were so many problems I will not return. 1st I requested the patio cause it was a beautiful day, the waitress tells me that specials are not available. I go inside and surprise the special board is full of offers! Whatever, 2nd took forever to place our order and the prices have gone up substantially, I ordered the steak tip sandwich and when it arrives it is the grossest slab of gristle. With onions that still have the tough outer layer and mushrooms, cheese. The steak was so sub par I was shocked. When I asked the waitress what happened she told me it was just tender. I went to the manager and had to wait for her to finish gossiping with the waitresses who had to call her back to even acknowledge me. She went on to tell me that the menu has changed. I was obviously bothering her and she was eager to get outside. The waitress apologized the manager couldn’t be bothered. They did take my sandwich off but for a 60 dollar dinner for 3 I was so disappointed. I usually love this place but between the nachos /knockwurst /steak they need to pick a direction and go with it cause it currently sucks.

I’m not a big steak person, but I decided to do something different for a friends birthday celebration. I surprised her by coming to J&R’s and I was in for surprise as well. A friend i regularly workout with kept talking about it and that’s how I knew about it. I haven’t been out here long so I asked about good places to eat. When I pulled up its in a very quiet side of Calverton, I like that because it was away from distractions. Entering the building I couldn’t believe the look. Old fashion county vibe with a Texas feel. The building is completely wood with tall ceilings and wood cross beams. I must say I was impressed. We went to the bar and my friend got a drink before we got seated. Our other friends showed up and then it was time to eat. Our waitress, Brittany was the best. She was all over our table without being to much. Brittany even told use about the place and her own life to add. The atmosphere was amazing. This place had me at the appetizer! It was perfect. A huge nacho platter for the table. That alone was worth the trip. My main course, the skirt steak, was the best(sorry Ross it was well done). It was tender and was marinated to perfection. After the food extravaganza everyone, except me got coffee. Finally the wait staff came out and brought a birthday cake to the table. What a place, what a night! I never thought I would have a steak house that I would regularly frequent, but J&R is that steakhouse for me. My first time there was that memorable.

Loud! Really Loud! At bar, can’t think the patrons so loud. Filet so so, think Golden Coral. My baked potato not cooked, wouldn’t melt the butter. Server at bar, had to wave her down for beer. A 2 star place. Pay and go, if I can get her back a third time. Beer, order, check please! Please, Hey I’m here ! Check please !

Great place for takeout or a quick lunch. Food quality could be a little better but the prices make up for it. Has been a little more on point the last few visits. The waitstaff works really hard and the food comes out very quickly.

Never disappoints. If you want to know what’s really good, then look at the menu and circle every single item and you have your answer.

Nice, rustic, warm atmosphere. Food is delicious and are decently portioned. Ordered a steak medium /well and it came out that way. Menu has a lot to choose from and they have nice specials and discounts. Bathroom was clean and had sufficient soap, paper towels, and TP. Parking was adequate. The only gripe I have about this restaurant is the very SLOW service, that’s a big gripe, that’s why I’m only giving 3 stars. We had to ask for our complimentary bread 3 times. The whole dining experience took 2 hours. I asked for gravy and steak marinade on the side, they never came out with my meal. I had to ask twice and had to wait about 10 mins for them to arrive. Wait staff and servers are very sub par. Failed to remove old, dirty dishes between courses. Our waitress, Jessica, was very very nice and attentive.

I have come to this steakhouse in its various locations in Suffolk county over the years and as usual its not flashy but it gets the job done for a decent price. We came on Columbus Day weekend and it was packed. Steak quality is decent and good for the price. It’s not Luger’s and doesn’t pretend to be. I will say the menu is incredibly confusing and the restaurant seems to be struggling with its identity. This location had Italian themed steaks and fare along with the usual American style stuff but they also had an Oktoberfest menu(which I can understand). Just seemed a bit much and I thought they might want to concentrate on one thing. Decent place if you want to grab a steak as long as you have realistic expectations.

Pretty good! Good service. Filet melted in your mouth(which is important!) and wasn’t too pricey. The clams appetizer was BOMB… Drinks were all good, pumpkin beer yummy. Good place for some German food and German music especially after being at the wineries all day. Lots of fun!

I have mixed feelings about J&R. I know it’s got quite the rep out east and was excited to go there with my family. The inside is pretty large and has a nice warm, welcoming feeling to it. Lots of families here. J&R are known for their steak & meats, and let’s be honest. They do it well. We started off with the ½ rack of baby back ribs which were pretty great. They were«falling off the bone» good. Very flavorful and a nice start to our meal. I ordered the 12 oz. J&R steak which was great. Cooked just how I wanted it. It came with a soup or salad and a side. The mashed potatoes were a very good accompaniment but the soup was pretty bad. I ordered their special which I think was leek and potato and it tasted like nothing. I ended up ordering another soup(forget which one) which was alright. Overall, we had a good experience. Aside from our not-so-present waiter and the mishap on the soup, it was a solid meal.

I would give less than one star if I could. Have been to this location many times without issue until a few months ago. An hour wait for cold burgers and the wrong steaks. The whole time the waitress hung out and talked to her friends on her first night working. Gave them another chance tonight –bad idea. They gave our food to the table next to us even while we were telling them they were making a mistake. Once they figured it out they tried to give us the food people had taken bites from. Another half hour and they try again. This time they bring out a well done fatty piece of meat they try to pass off as my med-rare prime rib. When I send it back it turns out it was the last piece. Thanks but no thanks. Gave them a second chance. Won’t be back.

The amount of food you get is obscene. We ordered an appetizer, salad, soup, chicken and ribs, dessert and coffee for $ 45. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The ribs were juicy, salad was fresh and the carrot cake was yummy. Ok that’s the good news. Bad news: calamari was so-so, the chicken was dry, the lobster soup was too rich for me. Bottom line — I would eat here again, but stick to the meats.

Very cozy place with great tasting steaks for a cheap price! The setting makes you feel as if you are in a cabin with wooden furniture everywhere. It does get loud depending on when you go. I would come here for late lunch or late dinner which is great because there is no wait, food comes out faster and less noisy. There is a bar section to get varieties of drinks or you can order drinks while sitting eating your meal. Right now they are promoting the thin mint martini and a cinnamon toast crunch drink. Every time I come here I would get the steaks no doubt about it. Steaks are always juicy for me! Get the steaks marinated of course! I would skip the skirt steak and go for the porterhouse! French onion soup was on the salty side and was charged $ 2.50 extra as a soup side with your entrée but still good and you also get to choose one more side of whatever you want(no charge on sweet potato fries!). Ribs are saucy and the lobster bisque has lobster in every bite. Hostess, waiters, waitress are very kind and caring. Never had to ask for anything. They came to us to ask a few times while looking at me stuffing my face! Wonderful place, nothing to complain about other than parking(tip: there’s parking in the back), when it is packed, the wait can be a bit long and some other customers/tables could be super loud! Super super loud! Then again, that is just sometimes and it depends on the people. J & R, keep up the good steaks!

J&R how much I love thee. I was a student at Stony Brook many moons ago and used to go to the Stony Brook location pretty often. For about 25 bucks you’ll get a nice porterhouse, two sides and a soup… What more than you ask for? These guys are not on the level that Sparks/Peter Luger/BLT prime are on, but they also do not charge 70 bucks for an 18 ounce bone in filet. On my 20th birthday(10 years ago), I actually completed the 76 ounce steak challenge. I was with a group of 25 people… Everyone’s food came out on one cart and my food came out on a separate cart… lol! J&R’s steak sauce is absolutely delicious and goes perfectly with their product. I would highly recommend that you order your steak with the«marinated» option and also get creamed spinach as one of your sides. This place is my favorite«budget friendly» steak house. The quality of the meat you’ll get here far surpasses ANY chain restaurant, including the ever so crappy Boulder Creek, Outback and Texas Roadhouse.
