What the heck happened??? Tortillas was good, upper middle of the road go to place here on CSUCI campus. The last time I went will remain the last time I went. We ordered the Special of the day Verde Enchiladas. No warning at all that they’re hotter than hell and no taste balance at all. I love spicy foods, this was not spicy, this was stupid hot. Being a local resident from the adjoining neighborhood I definitely took this as a sign and it doesn’t shock me to see other negative comments from residents here. It feels as if the night staff does not want older residents to frequent the restaurant in the evenings. This place is now deserted at night. The ownership has to be seeing the marked decline in sales, to them, this is your reason. Now think about fixing it…

Ate here one afternoon when touring the CSUCI campus. Located in a cute village/housing area, this restaurant offers a broad menu of Mexican fare… And beer too. Order and pay at he counter; return for food when the buzzer buzzes. The restaurant and outside dining areas were very clean. The staff was nice. The prices… Not cheap but not outrageous either. Food was ready in reasonable time and tasted great. I really enjoyed the Cubano. The fries were fresh and perfectly seasoned. The chile rellenos got rave review too. A good variety of salsa at a salsa bar. All the I tried were fresh and yummy. This is the kind of place I could eat at often!

I ordered a burger with s side of fries and it was not what I was expecting. The burger itself and the fries weren’t that bad but it was overpriced. Will not be visiting again.

This is like a hidden gem for Camarillo. I’m NOT a CSUCI student, faculty or a resident of University Glenn… I live«in town» and I meet people here for lunch all of the time. FOOD: I’ve had various burritos, tacos, sopes, the chicken chop salad and other things. I’ve tried all of their meats and love them all, especially the pork. Their crispy rolled tacos are unique(try the potato one). I’ve met friends here for a beer several times as well. The food is *excellent* and far superior to a Baja Fresh or Rubios(similar category). Seriously. Salsa bar is great as well. There’s something unique and special about this place. Every dish is crafted to perfection and not just thrown together. LOCATION: I think people who live and work outside of the University area either don’t know about this place(sadly) or they assume it is too far. Or, if they are like me, they sometimes forget — but, it’s only ~5 miles away from most places in Camarillo. It’s an 8 to 10 min drive from where I work and just about the same for a friend who comes from the Point Mugu Naval Base. CLEAN: The Fresh vibe extends to the facility also — this place is immaculately clean. Cleanliness is a huge thing for my wife and I and I don’t get why so many other places fall short here(like Olas, which I like, but come on, it’s dirty, and Curry Leaf, …same thing. Despite the fact that Curry Leaf is my favorite food of all time… I’ll knock them in this category, because it is true!). STAFF: Always friendly!

Best restaurant on campus. The chicken soft tacos are delicious and comes with warm tortilla chips. My favorite is the freshly made salsa bar and the guacamole is tasty too; not watered down like some places. They have breakfast burritos(average size) that aren’t too bad. Their salad are good, a good portion and best part: chicken isn’t dry. Only thing I hope for, and probably will never happen, is for some street style asada tacos. Also, the price is a bit inflated, 4.95 $ for one taco & some chips. We are broke college students here.

Had lunch here one afternoon between classes. I ordered the empanadas with a side of fries. After 30 minutes of waiting, I asked where my food was. The cashier then informed me it takes 45 minutes to make the empanadas. Dude you need to tell the customer that when they order! I only get 1 hour for lunch & wasn’t too happy about scarfing everything down in 5 minutes.

Their chiles rellenos are the best in the country, extremely delicious.

I live on campus and the only reason I go here is because I’m not willing to drive 20 minutes to the next closest Mexican restaurant. Strongly suggest to never eat the breakfast!!! Salsa’s are subpar and tomatoes are never red, only green :( Burritos lack flavor & good portion of meat. If this place was in a actual city, it would shut down within the year! Would rather go to Taco Bell, at least the salsa there isn’t filled with unripe tomatoes!!!

The enchiladas have a sauce that’s so bitter and the tortillas are rock hard. The chile rellenos are super greasy. The Catina bowl has a lot of filling such as guacamole and pico de gallo instead of actual food. The nachos aren’t so bad. Last night I gave it another try and I ordered a burrito«the house special» they have white rice instead of mexican rice and it’s pricey for a college student. And worst if all it set so uneasy in my stomach and I threw it all up on my way home from school :/.

I only come here because it’s walking distance from where I live. Food is mediocre at best. Both times I’ve been I got there the chicken enchiladas and it tasted like school lunch. Nothing restaurant quality about it. I think the Mexican station at the dining hall on campus makes better Mexican food. Ouch. Prices are fair. Cards accepted. Closes early.

Honestly… I am a student at CI so there isn’t much to chose from on campus. I usually resort to Tortilla’s when I am in need of Mexican food for cheap. I like their Mexican Cesar Salad. That you can never go wrong with. When I get a burrito from here it is usually hit or miss. I get a plain bean and cheese(«Classic Burrito») and that is not that hard to mess up… but it is possible. The ratio of beans and cheese is way off. Too much cheese, not enough beans! I did order that same burrito and the lady who works there(maybe she is the owner?) messed it up and gave me a «Veggie Burrito.» I asked her for a new one and she argued with me saying I ordered that. The other day I heard here arguing with a young Indian women who cannot eat meat. She tasted meat in the burrito and the lady argued saying she was wrong! On top of that, another visit I had there she ran my credit card had me sign the receipt, and then while I was eating walked up to me accused me of not paying. Confused and shocked, the manager walked over and talked to me. Said the card did not go through, even though I signed. They should have approached that differently, and a free meal for the inconvenience in their credit card machine not working would’ve been nice… rather than accuse me of not paying? And then the most recent kicker… A colleague of mine decided to get us breakfast burritos from Tortillas. I had never tried their breakfast before, so I figured I would give it a shot. It was actually really good and came with a side of potatoes! It was all good until Montezuma’s Revenge took place… I hadn’t ate anything except that burrito. I started to feel the effects of Montezuma around 3pm, and I didn’t get off work until 5:30. I live in Moorpark(takes like 30 minutes to get home) so driving home from CI which is in Camarillo… it seemed impossible. I was literally glued to the toilet at work, as well as once I got home. I almost didn’t make it home. This was two days ago. I am still having stomach issues after two days. Not as bad as before, but I am staying nearby the toilet just in case. So if you want cheap Mexican food, live at or attend CSUCI, and possibly want to risk rupturing your bowels, this may be a great place for you to try!

The only reason I have been here more than once is because it is conveniently close to my apartment, but the handful of times I have eaten there I have been filled with regret. At my last visit to Tortillas(about a week ago) I ordered a vegetable burrito bowl to go. As soon as I opened the container(within ten minutes after picking it up) I breathed in the moldy smell; the vegetables were soggy and lettuce were wilted. In my previous visits to Tortillas I have been unsatisfied by my meal, but this time it was literally inedible. I’m shocked that they would even serve this to costumers. If they didn’t have fresh vegetables to serve me they should have told me the dish wasn’t available.

This is probably your best bet for getting some good food on campus. The portions here are huge and come at a reasonable price. I had the nachos, which I would recommend. People kept passing by me and saying they would order some nachos because they looked so good. This place is popular and packed around 11:30 am-1 pm.

It’s a great spot considering the location. However, not memorable. The staff are nice enough and remember who I am so I give them a great review for that if nothing else. The seafood dishes are awful(that’s what I order at Mexican spots here in so cal) and the shrimp cocktail is made with ketchup. The Mexican Caesar salad with steak? That is the first thing I’ve ordered that was amazing. Go with the usuals here– the beans and rice taste great here along with their salsa bar.

Very bland Mexican food it’s lacking all the delicious flavors and spices. I’ve now eaten there three times hoping it gets better but sadly it does not.

Had to take a group of students to visit CSUCI yesterday and we decided to choose this place for lunch. Aside from the students enjoying the good food(especially the pico de gallo!), the manager & staff who helped us out were so great and accommodating! We had a group of about 50 and to our surprise they had set up an area for us without us even asking! We called ahead to order but didn’t expect the full-on service & attention! Great service & really awesome people working here! We felt very welcomed and the food was fantastic! Thank you Tortilla’s Grill & Cantina– we will definitely do business again for future visits at CSUCI!

The breakfast burrito was a disappointment. I had to stop eating it cause it was mainly all tortilla and grease seeped out all over the plate. It has no flavor and the potatoes that come with it had no flavor and completely mashed on their own which was disturbing. It’s over priced by far especially for the size of a burrito. The breakfast burrito was mainly tortilla with what seems like one egg. Definitely disappointing and overpriced. I only eat here cause subway is gone. Also, their margaritas and tequila sun rise have NO tequila. It’s triple sec.

I live in the neighborhood. Thought I walk down a grab a breakfast burrito. Took the two employees about 10 minutes to acknowledge I was even there. So I asked if they were open. Got a «ya!» Ordered a ham breakfast tortillas burrito. And got the smallest thing I’ve ever seen for 7.50 $. Very disappointed.

The shrimp tacos and the crispy fish tacos are delicious! And they’re pretty good sizes. 1 filled me up. I tried to force the 2nd down but i couldn’t finish it. There a lots of things to choose from on the menu. I wanted to order a torta but decided on the tacos. And I’m glad I did because I saw a guy who ordered a torta and that thing was massive! Much bigger than tortas I usually get. It’s in a nice location, right behind CSUCI, so expect lots of college students. I went to csuci from 2003 – 2007 and I was never lucky enough to experience a college atmosphere like that. There are signs for free parking for restaurant goers, but I’m not sure where that is because my sister has a parking permit for the college. There are about 13 or so tables inside and an outdoor patio. I’m definitely planning to go back to try the torta! Oh…and they have beer! Not that I like beer, but for those who like beer with their Mexican food, this place has it.
