I called today at 3pm to ask how late they are open until for dinner and the guy says«can come in until 10 pm». I show up today at 9:10 pm with my young daughter and there is a closed sign on the door. I knocked and the guy comes and opens the door and says«we’re closed». I told him I called him that same afternoon and he said they are open until 10 pm and he just laughed. Never coming back to such an unprofessional place.

This is a good choice for a quick bite or a dinner. The interior is so so but food is tasty abs served quickly. They offer many options for soups, sake and rolls. I tried the special — asparagus tempura. Recommended to try!

When sushi’s bad, it’s REALLYBAD. I came across this place last minute a few years ago and I had a pleasant lunch there… not today! It was so empty in there and cold, and when I got my food I knew why. The sushi assembly there were a couple of young guys… definitely not sushi chefs who were basically just cracking jokes and not taking their jobs seriously… I totally get that co-workers joke around, but not for as long as I was there — they didn’t seem to realize they were at work. My waiter was lame and hardly gave a crap. I had one request then he didn’t let me finish and walked away. The menu is so inconsistent and disorganized… another bad sign… I ordered the sashimi lunch… only a few pieces and they were NOT fresh at all… you shouldn’t have to hold your breath to survive a meal, you should savor a sushi lunch… well I couldn’t even finish the little I was served, even the salad was gross… and it’s pretty hard to mess up miso soup… the seaweed in it tasted so old like it had this rancid film texture to it… the waiter didn’t check it… he just left the check… and let’s just say, a giant ass rip off… and I’ve gone to some crappy sushi places in Boston… The fish here was so old and so lazily cut, it was a chore to try to get through eating… felt sick for the rest of the afternoon. Save your money, save your pallet, go to Genki Ya at Fresh Pond — Fresh, and always on point.

One of our favorite Japanese restaurants in the whole Boston area. Delightful staff and wonderful food. One of my favorites is their teriyaki salmon… well-done. Plus, their sushi pizza is crisp and fine. Worth a try for sure.

Their rolls are amazing! If you want a great laugh… go to the back of the menu for their Chinese food like«Strange Flavored Chicken» or the«Pu Pu Platter». We stuck with the Japanese side of things and were quite happy. Their rolls are pretty large so bring friends and your appetite.

One of my favorite meals in this town is the salmon set here. All this yummy stuff: soup, salad, tofu, shumai, sushi, croquette. And perfect salmon!

I am a sushi fan. But Boston doesn’t seem to have good sushi, surprisingly. I tried several, some of them even highly rated. But I found this one more decent. Try A La Carte.

The sushi at Bluefin wasn’t bad, but it was still hard to like this place. It just had a weird«struggling to survive» feel to it in the bustle of Lesley University’s food court. This is its own restaurant off to the side and it was quite empty for a Friday evening. There are better places to eat in Porter but this still beats ChoCho’s cause I hate that place. I had the chirashi dinner. Standard miso soup and salad w/ginger dressing came with it. The sashimi that came with the chirashi was fresh and they were nice thick cuts. Wish there was more salmon and tuna vs. everything else but it was actually a really good mix. Love the tamago, it was a good touch. Honestly, the sushi was pretty good but the place had a weird vibe that made me a little skeptical about eating the fish there. Had some ice cream mochi for dessert which is always good!

My husband and I stumbled in this place because we went out too late for dinner. My salman skin maki is small but yummy. Salman skin is crunchy and salty, well balanced with the rice and cucumber. The wafu salad is very satisfying, and we like its dressing and the taste with tofu and seaweed. The Hokaidoyaki is a very interesting but tasty appetizer. My husband is satisfied with his steak, which was lightly seasoned and refreshing. I am quite surprised to see the ave three star rating on Unilocal… Well, we will come back to this restaurant frequently.

I’ve been to Bluefin 4 or 5 times in the last 5 years or so. I give it three stars because it stands for«A-OK» according to Unilocal. They always do a good job, but nothing they do is spectacular, either. If you are in the area and want to try a Japanese restaurant with a full sushi and non-sushi menu, Bluefin is not a bad choice. Hot appetizers like gyoza, agedashi tofu, and seaweed salad are all good. The sushi menu is extensive and quality is not bad. Considering the prices, however, the overall value proposition is about average, I would say. You may find it interesting to walk around in the building which also houses several smaller cafeteria-like Japanese restaurants and a Japanese gift shop.

There’s a reason why this is one of the emptier restaurants in Porter Exchange. I suppose it’s the only option in the building for sushi, so maybe that was my error, but I wanted to keep my dinner price tag under $ 30. I ordered the loco moco recommended by the waitress. It’s a slab of ground beef steak over an onion sauce and topped with a fried egg. The sauce was absurdly salty, and considering that they didn’t give you much carbs to cut the salt(there were two balls of rice on the side), the meal was barely palatable. The environment is somewhat more upscale than the more popular options in the vicinity(Café Mami, Ittyo) but when you balance the price-food quality-food portion ratio, I didn’t think it was worth it.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breathe and height my appetite can reach. When feeling hunger pangs this a great spot! Their miso soup is a perfect combination of plenty of seaweed, healthy miso broth and just the right amount of tofu, tiny finely cut scallions. Always served at the right temperature. My husband loves the sushi. I love the vegetable tempura etc etc etc. May I please marry the chef who cooks all the box lunches? My husband won’t mind; he’ll understand because he loves your cooking too! LOL However, if the cook is female, my husband will want to marry you, and I’ll understand. lol Thank you, thank you, thank you. Arigato!!!

I would rather go to a sushi restaurant that offers 5 fish that are extremely fresh than 15 fish with one that is not fresh. Okay that wasn’t as eloquent as I thought it’d be, but I ordered the Sushi B lunch special and what killed it for me was the tuna: I took one look at that tuna and knew from its puce hue(puce is a color) that it was not fresh. I took one bite and it confirmed my suspicions. Fish has a baseline level of fishiness, but raw fish needs to be served extra fresh so that taste/scent of fishiness is like kissing the sea, not eating raw seaweed. The tuna was not fresh. It had too much of a malodorous fishy putrefying taste. Maybe that description is overboard. It is. But if you’re going to serve raw fish, the freshness has to be pristine. Old tuna will kill it. It’s too bad — for the price and quantity: 4 out of 5 ! For the awesome A/C: 5 out of 5 ! For the tuna that was on its way to the dumpster: 0 of 5.

One of my favorite places for Japanese food. Always fresh tasting and service is generally very good. They have some Korean dishes that are good and I always enjoy getting the Sapporo beer with. The deep fried chicken is good, along with the sushi rolls. A lot of good things on the menu.

The sushi I got here was very good and the noodles were pretty good. The prices were close to what I’d pay for Japanese food just about anywhere. Which is exactly what I’d say about the food– just like every other Japanese restaurant I’ve been to. Stick to the sushi for tastiness and affordability.

A very decisive so-so — meh. I went for lunch with friends/guests/clients. The place was shockingly empty. No problem to get a table for seven. Service was okay — and great that every one spoke Chinese for my Chinese group. Sashimi — Not dangerous, but also not the freshest. I hate lemon slices with my fish. Lemon are only needed if freshness fails, never improves seafood. Agedashi tofu was okay, but not great. Udon was okay, Salads are actually very good — but they cannot rescue sub par fish.

I’m surprised by a lot of the Blue Fin hate. I think this place is serviceable. I like the décor and the apps we got(steamed dumplings and fried tofu) were delicious. The sushi was fine too(as good as any other reasonably priced sushi).

We really only stopped in for drinks, but we were very happy with the prices and service we received. 12oz kirin for $ 4, lychee martini @ $ 7. Our friends got some sushi and we tried a piece, it was pretty good! The plaza is nice since there’s a relatively cheap pay-for-parking lot out back. And there’s a selection of other shops to check out while you’re there. Overall a nice place to have a quick drink while catching up with friends.

I think the best way to describe this place is…“safe.” If you’re with a large group of friends looking for deals on generic, mildly impressive sushi, then this is the place for you. Nothing really stood out from my memories of eating here, except ordering a 100piece dinner for one of our group dinner expositions. While the fish was decently fresh and well-prepared, I just couldn’t escape the generic vibe of it all. Maybe it was just me. Food: 3 stars Price: 2 stars Décor: 4 stars

Honestly. Blue Fin gets way too much flack from people who know nothing about sushi. I’m not saying I’m a sushi-eating-pro or anything like that, but Blue Fin’s sushi is actually pretty good compared to many other sushi joints in the Boston/Cambridge area(trust me, I’ve eaten at most of them!) From what I understand, Blue Fin has gone through several transformations over the past few years. So what if they’re under new management? So what is the menu has been revamped? So what if they’ve hired new cooks and sushi chefs? I mean, what do you expect?! We all just went through a freakin’ recession! That’s how it goes in the restaurant business; gotta change with the times and roll with the punches. I don’t hold it against them at all, especially when the food is still good… and you shouldn’t either. I’ve been eating at Blue Fin for years, and I think the sushi there has actually improved with all these changes. The quality of the food has also gotten better. Order the 20⁄30 pc sushi combo(great deal) and some appetizers. The fish is always fresh, and appreciate the fact that they’ve got daily specials listed on a board by the entrance. I love trying new types of sushi, so I always get excited to see what they’re offering. If you haven’t been to Blue Fin in awhile, I suggest you give them another shot. If you’ve never eaten at Blue Fin before then you should go. I’m sure you won’t regret it. Also, someone please change the storefront photo! It’s not a very nice or flattering image…

Been here on several occasions, and it never disappoints. Brought the mother-in-law here once, and it was the ONLY Japanese restaurant we went to during her visit that she liked! That’s saying alot as she was very particular about finding authentic Japanese food in Boston and several other places we tried out did not suit her palette. The shitaki mushroom salad was really big, def meant for sharing. The sauce was very light, and the greens were very fresh — I was a big fan of the tempura-style shitaki too! I also am a big fan of their crispy tatsuta-age chicken appetizer. Their sushi was ok, didnt get any special rolls, but the ones we got were ok. The yakiniku is ALOT spicery than i remembered it being, I wasnt too much a fan this time around. Overall, plenty of seating on a Friday night, service was pretty good, love the complex it is in, and easy to get to either via T or driving.
