A Very Sad Day! They’ve Closed Down. :( I last went here for lunch about four weeks ago, in mid-late February. I had two slices of very delicious and hot pizza, and great, freiendly service from the very sweet counter lady. A week or so before that I got the steak and cheese sub. Delish. The best thing about this steak sub, is that they used quality steak; not too much fat, and no grizzle. I had a hankering for a couple of their slides today(March 20), to my deep dismay, I discovered the«Closed» sign on the window. The owner felt it was time to move on to something else. On a bit of a cheery note, I guess, is that he indicated that another eatery was going to be moving in the space. There’s nothing to say what it will be, or when it will open, some I guess time will tell. The sad thing is that just a lttle over a year ago, my office moved right around the corner from here, a nice little five minute walk, where previously it was a good 15 minute walk, so I usually drove over, since the walk took up most of my lunch time; I had been coming here much more often in the past 14 months. As I’m fishing writing this, I just noticed that someone has posted a picture(below) of their farewell notice. Check it out. Cheddar’s Pizza. I’ll miss you tremendously. You went away way too soon! Thanks for the great food and very fair prices! You’ll be sorely missed by the entire neighborhood. Suggestion: A nearby option, since Cheddar’s is now gone, I highly recommend Mamagoo’s, just across the parkway. They’re essentially the equivilent of Cheddar’s in quality, service and price, but with a slightly larger menu.

Honestly, some of the best food I’ve ever had. The staff is a bit snippy especially when it’s extremely busy. But they operate in sort of an «old-school» way. Come in, order quickly, get your delicious food made fresh, pay, and move on. They move very fast and they are incredibly hard working. Just don’t expect to make any friends or get extremely friendly service when it’s very busy. But if you’re looking for great food, and the BEST steak and cheese you’ve ever had, go here.

Your average fast food joint I had the steak & cheese. It was absolutely delicious and cooked exactly the way I requested it. Only problem I had was there was no bathroom.

I came in at an off hour, mid-afternoon and ordered the steak and cheese. It was ok, but I’ve certainly had better. Steak was a little chewy as was the roll. Flavor was good. I would try some of their other subs in the future. Definitely worth a second shot.

Chicken salad sub with everything, including hots. Best sandwich I have ever had. Service is quick, the place is small and busy at lunch but it is worth the trip.

Four normal slices of pizza for 5 bucks — you can’t beat that. What’s more, the staff is friendly, funny, and ultimately worth every penny! Great local establishment that I love supporting when I am in the area.

Chicken Kabob Pocket!!! It is super delicious. I seriously had this 2 days in a row. It’s called a pocket, but it’s more like a jumbo wrap with deliciously flavored and juicy chicken, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, spinach, zucchini with a white sauce. There were probably other ingredients in that wrap, but the combination of everything together was amazing! Great price and huge portions. The subs are huge as well.

Happened to be in the area and stopped by for a quick sub. Not only did they split my «small»(I paid for a small, but it was huge) eggplant parm when they realized we were sharing, but the guy behind the counter was a real salt-of-the-earth kind of guy and even gave us a parking tip for heading to Fresh pond. Excellent!

I just ate here with some colleagues during a lunch break, and can confidently say we won’t return. The service itself was fine — I supposed the dudes behind the counter were a bit surly, but it’s Alewife man. We all ordered the steak and cheese sub as instructed by our colleague, a frequent patron of Chedder’s. Different combos of toppings, but nothing crazy here. What a crappy steak and cheese. No seasoning, dry bread, unmelted cheese, raw onions(my coworkers really love that stank breathe brought back to the office), and raw mushrooms. Aside from what a confusing mess it is to figure out which order belongs to who, the steak and cheese was pretty crappy. I’m all for a greasy grinder; but damnit, it should taste good considering the cholesterol cluster bomb inbound.

I just started a new job in the area, and am checking out the lunch places. After reading all of the reviews yesterday, I was almost afraid to go to this place, but I was walking by it today and decided to be defiant. Nobody was rude there, in fact, the people behind the counter seemed to know most of the customers by name! That means those people are regulars! OK, so it was my first time here, so I can only review what I ate. It was the yummiest, yummiest, yummiest Greek salad I have ever had! No iceberg lettuce, just a lot of different kinds of greens, sort of like mesclun greens but there was arugula in there and something else really flavorful as well. Lots of veggies, including some grilled zucchini, a generous scoop of hummus, and the best Greek dressing I have ever had. Trust me, I am a fan of the Greek Salad. The only reason I didn’t give today’s experience five stars is that the thing cost almost $ 9. Seriously? For a salad? But I’ll definitely be back when I’m feeling wealthy.

I love the guy who works here(who actually might be the owner). He has the classic Boston ‘tude — very straight forward, almost kind of rude. My housemates and I always shop at Trader Joe’s next door, so we decided to check it out one day. We walked in hoping to just get a slice, but the menu only listed slices of cheese or pepperoni — where are the vegetables?! The owner sensed the disappointment in our faces and asked us what we were looking for. He said instead of two slices, he could make us a small pizza with four types of veggies on it and give us a discounted price of $ 7, which would be about the same as two slices anyway. Deal! Nothing too special, just a good ol’ veggie pizza.

I walked in here with a friend looking for a slice. The man behind the counter asked us what we would like. I looked at the menu, and said to my friend, «woah, I’m not paying three dollars for a slice,» and we turned to leave. The man then yelled, «well get out then, you and your friend are trash!» WTF?! Maybe I said what I said loud enough for the guy to overhear me, but it’s my three bucks, and I’ll spend it wherever I want. I informed him that I was not trash, in fact I had just returned home from deployment and was visiting family on leave. Asshole.

I like Cheddars a lot, because it’s the perfect place for a really quick, cheap, simple lunch. I like to go when I’m in the mood for something really fast, because they have huge slices of pizza for only a couple of bucks. The cheese is piled on thicker than the crust, and while it’s a bit greasy, by the end you won’t even care, because that grease is where they store all the delicious. I’ve only had a couple of their subs, and while they are a good price for the size, I am unimpressed with the eggplant parm. The breading ends up overwhelmingly oily, without a lot of flavor. The french fries aren’t bad, but they’re nothing to write home about. Don’t get worried by the attitude other people have been talking about here. It’s not so much that these guys are mean, they’re just no-nonsense. They have this attitude like a small Southie place got magically transported to a severely white collar area of Cambridge, and everyone just shrugged their shoulders and kept cooking. They don’t have time for your very important phone call, they have pizzas to make.

As the other reviewers have said, the guys who run this place are not likely to discuss the merits of romaine versus boston lettuce. They will however, make you a great meal. They’re actually nice guys if you get to know them and can get past the gruff exterior(and it’s gruff). The greek salad is beyond amazing. I don’t even like olives or green peppers, but that’s ok because they include roasted zucchini, red potatotes, red onions, a ton of feta, broccoli, and other yummy veggies. Add some grilled chicken and make it perfect. It comes with lavash bread so you can wipe the bowl clean or make it into a wrap if you like.

I am going to make this review very simple. Just like the staff at Cheddars does not indulge their customers in detailed conversations on the merits of their various menu items, I will(attempt) to make this review similarly short and sweet: Go to Cheddars. Order the Greek pocket. Experience the joy that its deliciousness brings to your life. My more verbose advice: Don’t listen to the people who rank out the employees. They are seriously awesome people who do their job getting delicious food to the hoards of people who go there each day for lunch. As long as you are polite to them and do not hold up the line, they will be nice to you. The owner even indulges my «fussy» tendencies(his word, not mine) by remembering that I don’t like onions in my Greek pocket after I asked for it that way once. The best is going there when they are not particularly busy. They won’t just make small talk with you; you’ll end up sharing your life story and learning theirs. You also will learn that they are actually incredibly hard-working, awesome people. Takeaway points from this review: Eat the Greek pocket and ignore the reviewers who can’t handle the awesome employees at Cheddars.

Anything with cheese in the name is a-ok with me. This place is close to my office and PERFECT for when I’m craving anything but what I packed for lunch(does tossing a can of soup into my work tote count as «packing» a lunch?). Today was just such an occasion. I took a line from Cee Lo and said«FORGET you, soup! I hear chili and fries calling!» If you’re boss puts the squeeze on your for your lunch hour, call ahead for pick-up(I love those guys, but they’re not fast as lightnin’). My menu selection(only 5 $) may have taken about 10minutes to make its way to my mouth… but it was JUST what I wanted(oniony — greasy — seasoned — and HOT mmmmhmmmmmm!). Add a can of soda of 1 $(Dr.Pepper! At long last, I have missed you from the vending machine!) and sit for a spell. You’ll see some interesting diners for sure. Great prices and pretty sweet Greek selection: Greek pita pocket(7 $ for a large), slice of cheese pizza(2.50 $), veggie wrap(6.50 $ for a med), calzone(any choice — 9 $), and YUMMY ziti and ravioli(6 – 7 $). My friends often get the steak’n’cheese(7.50 $ — but there are a LOT of other options for your steak sandwich!!) and they drool at the thought of the meaty morsels. — - — - and YESSS! THEGYRO has LANDED! 6 $ gets you the mouthwatering little pocket of Greek heaven. Salads for calorie counters… but chances are, you’re eatting here because you want a little dose of delightful greasy goodness! Great little spot for lunch(especially if YOU’RE buying — give me a call… I’m just around the corner!)

I have a theory that some of the oddest named places make the best food. Ordered a chicken kabob wrap. To my delight, it was filled with all kinds of delicious veggies — broccoli, carrots, roasted potatoes, spinach, and I think there was even a little zucchini. Made me feel a bit better about eating out. Plus, the chicken was juicy and delicious, and the wrap was enormous! Flavorful, delicious, and fresh. Nicely done, Cheddars. Mr./Mrs. Cheddar, I salute you.

Masochistic tendencies(and my car) drove me to check out Cheddar’s. I wanted the infamous wrath, the vitriol, the scathing verbal lashings from the staff. Instead, I got a medium meatball sub, toasted, and a root beer. For $ 8.16. The guys were actually friendly, at peak lunch hours, and the only modicum of attitude came after repeating«chicken caesar salad» thirteen times before a Blackberry-distracted patron finally snapped out of it and realized they were calling her order. Small shop with counter service and a soda cooler, the namesake pie is sold by the slice, with S/M/L sandwiches and salads priced by throwing a dart. Por ejemplo, find below the cost structure for a medium sirloin steak sandwich: Steak only $ 7.00 w/onions $ 7.50 w/peppers $ 7.50 w/mushrooms $ 7.50 w/cheese $ 7.50 w/2 toppings $ 7.50 Combo w/everything $ 7.50 And the report from Andy B, who ordered said combo: «Iff goot.» He was chewing. My sub held eight balls(like your mom!) — mildly spiced — and was slathered with very wet, very clean pomodoro. Thought the sheer quantity of food would be overkill, but nay, the airy loaf and light sauce made for a step-up lunch. Now if you’ll excuse me, Mistress Sarah and her glorious whip are here.

Everything the negative reviews say about this place is true. The food is actually very good, but the guys who work here are just loud, rude, and utterly unpleasant to deal with. Also, the prices are just a bit north of reasonable on some items. The place is very close to my office, so I’ve stopped in on a number of occasions to grab lunch… and every time I go, I swear to myself I won’t go back(that is, until a few months later when I forget that I ever swore such a thing and head right back in, after all). My usual order(a small roast beef sub, small bag of chips, and 20 oz. bottle of soda) comes in at just over $ 10 — and for that price, I have the pleasure of being shouted at by some really angry, stressed out middle-aged men behind the counter. The one guy seriously doesn’t seem capable of speaking below the level of a shriek — today, I even thought to myself«Maybe he’s somewhat hearing impaired and doesn’t actually realize how loud he is,» but then I stepped back and figured I was giving him too much credit. I think he needs anger management more than a new set of Beltones. So anyway — the food by itself would probably get 4 stars, but the service gets 0. If you’re in the area and you’re hungry, try the Chipotle in the same plaza, or maybe the new sushi place that opened nearby. Hell, go buy some food off of the hot bar at Whole Foods across the street. But don’t bother with this place, unless perhaps you feel like you need that quick jolt of adrenaline that comes with trying to buy a sandwich here.
