Used to be a decent place to have lunch where people needed to have reservation for weekend lunch(like 2 – 3 years ago). Now I would say they might have changed chef or owner. My boyfriend ordered a unagi lunchbox and the rice was buried in soybean sauce… The avocado in the sushis tasted like leftover A little pricey for the food quality.

Our apartment complex turned us on to this place, and it’s great. We’ve sat both at sushi bar and tables, and always have great service. Quality is very high and we’ve enjoyed everything we’ve had — sashimi, spicy tuna, dragon, rainbow and dumplings. Only suggestion, add a spicy yellowtail roll!

Had my weekly craving for sushi and wanted to give this place a whirl. We’ve been to the other Fuji locations and the menu is quite similar(if not the same) so we opted to try the Sashimi Moriawase Regular(15 pieces) and the Makimono Combo Regular(spicy tuna, sake and negihama) dinners over the Fuji Boat 1 from our last time at Fuji Assembly Row. After we were done with those, we even added an order of their Toro Sampler sashimi for good measure. Overall, we were pretty happy with the Sashimi Moriawase Regular. Chef’s choice included sizable cuts of sashimi and the variety was excellent — 7 different kinds to be exact and no skimping on the portion size. As usual, the maki rolls were pretty tasty as well. The Toro sampler, although delicious and obviously better cuts than the sashimi regular, were priced slightly higher than the marginal increase in deliciousness. Great spot to stop by for lunch or dinner if you live or work by the area and I’d be regular if I were closer!

The manager Tony took great care of us and really treated us like we were guests in his home. The food was good as always. Highly recommended!

I’ve been meaning to try one of the Fuji restaurants for a while now. I really like their sister restaurant Shabu and Mein for the ramen and semi-cooked eggs. Today, I came here with a friend. When we inquired about what to get, one of the waitresses suggested we go with the lunch specials. My friend got the gourmet sushi lunch box, and I went with the Chinese one with sesame chicken. Her sushi looked okay, but my lunch box was somewhat disappointing. The sesame chicken appeared to either 1) been leftovers from the day before and reheated 2) overly deep fried or 3) poorly prepared. I’ve eaten freshly prepared sesame chicken in restaurants in Boston and New York City, and it never looks like what was put in front of me. When I was growing up, my parents ran a Chinese take-out business, so I’m well aware of what is done sometimes in kitchens to save food. The chicken tasted overcooked, but I still ate it b/c the sauce was tasty. Also, my friend and I were engaged in much discussion, and so we really didn’t get down to eating until the dish had been in front of me for almost 10 minutes. If it’s been sitting in front of me for a while, and I haven’t tried it yet, I feel like it’s on me. However, toward the end of my meal, the manager came over and inquired if I had any feedback, and since she asked, I mentioned that maybe the chicken was too deep fried. The next thing I know, I get the bill, and she has taken $ 10.00 off my meal. I was actually quite surprised, not expecting anything since I had pretty much finished most of the chicken. I think this is one of those places where the service is better than the food. We also ordered the scallop special and dessert. When I think about my experience here, I’m just reminded of the pleasant waitress and the manager. Honestly, the interactions with the staff here saved this review. I would have given it one less star otherwise. If I had to chose, I prefer Shabu and Mein’s food.

This may be a controversial opinion but I would rank Fuji as top three sushi restaurants in Boston/Cambridge. Consistent freshness and a great variety of makimono. They also use real pickled ginger(not the horrible prepackaged stuff most places provide) which makes a huge difference. Only points off for their delivery radius.

Have been here about 10 times, about half of which was takeout. Pluses: — Huge portion sizes for some items, e.g., tempura all ebi(EIGHT pieces of shrimp!), — Lunch specials are good and reasonably priced for what you get. I like their salmon teriyaki and beef broccolini. — In entrees, I liked their: XO sauce fried rice(great wok char flavor), unagi kabayaki, sake teriyaki, sake shioyaki, and beef udon. — In appetizers, the hamachi kama(collar) was good. — Sushi: note that their sushi menu pages online confusingly both have second pages(click«nigiri+sushi+sashimi» or «makimono», then the tiny«next» at the bottom. — Their tamago is good, light, fluffy, and just the right about of sweetness. — I also liked the«maki me hungry», «torch maki» and«volcano» Minuses: — Sushi rolls were tasty, but small and not filling compared to Café Sushi. — Prices were raised across the board a year ago.

I live in Quincy, work in Kendall. I’ve been going to Fuji 1546 for years for consistently good sushi. I really enjoy the Spicy Tako Salad. I had to work late and thought to myself, «What could be so different?». Please tell me, how do you justify increasing the price from $ 9 to $ 16? What’s the magical ingredient included in the Kendall Square recipe? I was about to give-in and complete the order but decided to walked away on principle. After reading the reviews, I’m quite certain I made the right choice. Corporate bulls&$t; always looking to squeeze an extra buck outta me at every turn. I say No More!

A nice and relaxing lunch. I had been hesitant to come to Fuji because it is a bit pricey. Lunch is going to cost you about $ 20, which is too much for coming regularly. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and calm instrumental music. Service was good and efficient. The bento box seemed like the best option for lunch so I went with the unagi version. It was not cheap compared to other more casual venues, but I was definitely full by the end. The miso soup was good. The salad was just OK. I was not impressed with the dressing. The eel was alright. I had a better eel recently elsewhere. Two gyoza and two shumai were included but were both deep fried, which is not the optimal way of preparing them IMO. Gyoza are best pan fried with a crispy bottom and shumai are best steamed. The best thing in the bento box were the two monstrous pieces of tempura. There were very large pieces of vegetable with lots of batter. They were somewhat challenging to eat with chopsticks because they were so heavy, but I liked the batter and the vegetables were cooked all the way through so I enjoyed them. One issue was that no tempura dipping sauce was included. The sauce provided seemed intended for the dumplings. the California was just OK. Something did bother me during the meal. I was sitting at the bar and some of the sushi chefs kept coughing as they were preparing the food. Off putting to say the least… Overall, the food was fine, but pricey for what you end up getting. I’d say come here if you don’t mind spending a little bit extra for the nice atmosphere and service.

This is my second experience with Fuji at Kendall, and both have been positive. I’ve had dinner there and service is great. I don’t remember what we got specifically, but it was three different maki rolls and a deluxe sushi platter. Everything was great and prices were reasonable. This time, we got the bento boxes for lunch and they delivered it quickly with three different sauces and dressings and chopsticks(which some places tend to forget)!! I love this place and will be coming here frequently. Probably drink there too! The place is also beautiful.

This place is basic and definitely overpriced for what you are getting. Came here last night for a friend’s birthday. Service was subpar took our waitress a good 20 minutes to delivery my boyfriend’s beer and over an hour to get our food. Once we got our food it was nothing to write home about. Fried rice was dry and boring. Sushi was fresh but definitely over priced(17 dollars for a 6 piece special roll. Insanity) I was happy they had free valet parking(which was the weirdest valet parking ever. You didn’t get a ticket for your car and they gave you your keys back after it was parked) but I won’t be coming back here again. Much better sushi with quicker service all over Cambridge and Boston.

Just moved in across the street and have ordered takeout 5 – 6 times. Can’t say anything about the ambience because I haven’t eaten inside but the folks who greet me when I pick up have always been very courteous. On to the food — I’ve had rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and wok udon and soup udon. In general, the sushi is decent — not the best I’ve had but pretty good. The udons have always been spot on. Will keep ordering in the future.

Had takeout previously but finally decided to go in one day. We knew we were going so I tried to make reservations & got a note back from the Mgr telling me, Sorry we are booked but there are walk in spaces left so just come walk in… Ook if there are spaces, why cant you just reserve them for me?! So we walk over & are looked at as if we are crazy, like WHAT you didnt have a reservation. Ok strike 1. Then we are left just standing there for a few mins with a puzzled look like are we waiting, are they seating us. When they kinda give us the«Huff, sigh, sigh» attitude & then seat us in the window row booth. Seats were ok. Then they told us please be patient as the service is going to be slow, but it never was, the waitress was on Point, Had all her stuff together took our HUGE order with NOPEN& had it down — No mistakes. The mgr or some one who was in charge of something kept coming over to apologize for the wait, but there really wasnt one. The food began to come out &OMG everything is soo much better there than in take out. Calamari was GREAT, light & tasty. Hot & Sour soup was delish The beef & broccolini was TODIEFOR, so tender & not fake tasting dry meat. Just soo good. Will def be adding to the regular spots we try in the area for lunch.

I was a little hesitant to try out Fuji at Kendall since I was recently disappointed at Fuji via Assembly. Big difference in over all presentation and experience. The restaurant is located in a quant small corner of Kendall, easy access when walking, parking is available off street but quite full on the weekends. You’re better off taking the train and going for a nice walk from Kendall or Lechmere really. Service is great, very good communication, comfort, and of course knowledge about the menu. We even had the opportunity to order in with their restaurant and the experience wasn’t staggered at all. Food is delicious; typical modern Japanese cuisine, clean flavors, fresh, proper presentation with sushi and other dishes. The chicken katsu is delicious, as is there Spicy Tuna and broiled Salmon. Portions are within means of pricing, a few bold roll flavors to add to the mix and it’s actually a pretty decent place. I had one poor experience with a shrimp tempura roll where most of the shrimp was shell and tail, no meat; but aside from that, it’s been consistently on point. On those cold winter days, we avoid the walk and order is via Foodler; arrives fresh and the quality is as though I’m eating it there. Great to know!

I just finished a review earlier tonight for Ittoku on Comm Ave which does a lot of things right for Japanese cuisine. I’m sad to say, Fuji is like a comedy of errors and a complete showcase of how it’s done wrong. First off, our waitress came to take our order after what felt like ages. I ordered what I thought to be tea but turned out to be some awful amalgamation of just water, sugar and food coloring. Worse yet, it was lukewarm. The mind conjures of up the pea soup scene from The Exorcist. My fiancée and I each ordered sushi rolls along with noodle entrees. The sushi only went down after a Herculean struggle with my gag reflex. The sushi was warm and the slab of salmon I managed to ingest carried a strong aftertaste. I expected udon noodles but was somehow treated to Lo Mein instead. The beef strips were way overcooked and just barely coated in what tasted like oyster sauce. Look, I’m not a big enough of a purist or snob to have issues with falsely-advertised authenticity — I’ve eaten at plenty of high-quality, Chinese-owned sushi restaurants. But I do take issue with a restaurant pawning off Lo Mein as Udon noodles. Sloppy service, bad food and a hyper-inflated price tag. There’s a laundry list of problems with this place, you’d be wise to give more-deserving establishments your business.

Solid restaurant — and probably my go to in the Kendall MIT vicinity. That said, it’s on the pricier side when comparing to similar sushi joints in the greater Cambridge/BOS area. Our party of 3 was easily seated on a weekday night. Wanted to grab the toro(tuna) but they we’re OOS. We got the — 1. fried shrimp app — pass 2. Medium tier sushi boat — go. Good variety and pretty fresh. Sashimi, Roe, nigiri… you name it. Something for everyone.

SUSHIBOAT — — — — — My boyfriend and I decided to return to Fuji for a weekday lunch, and it was packed! We were able to snag a seat at the bar without a reservation and got the most attentive service. We sat, ordered, and got our food within 15 minutes. We were so shocked! Any time we wanted to ask for a refill of green tea or water, if a waiter was too busy, a host or manager would fill it for us. They were so accommodating even though it was crazy busy. We decided to share sushi boat 1, which came with 24 pieces. 4 pieces of the biggest sashimi I have ever seen, 4 pieces of nigiri, and 16 pieces of yellowtail & spicy tuna tempura maki. The sashimi included tuna, halibut, salmon, and yellowtail. They were literally the biggest pieces of sashimi I have ever gotten at a sushi restaurant. Although they were big, they didn’t lack in flavor or quality. The same fish was available in nigiri form, ideal for sharing! I really liked the Negihama(yellowtail) maki. It had scallions and was wrapped in a thin slice of seaweed and rice — simple but super good! I would definitely advise coming to Fuji during the weekdays, as they have their best service and are very attentive to every guest. I will definitely be back!

I’ve been wanting to try Fuji for lunch since I work near Kendall. I think it was just about what I was expecting. Their bento boxes are enough food to feed a crowd and their crab Rangoon are the best I’ve ever had. Service was extreeemely slow and not overly friendly. Thai tea and mango green tea were both a hit. I’m not itching to get back ASAP, but I’ll definitely be back at some point if not just for the rangoons

Fuji at Kendall is fancy for Japanese food. They spend more time on the aesthetics vs. authenticity. Pricey. Came here because a girlfriend had a $ 20 for $ 40 groupon to spend. Doubt we would go out of our way to dine here again without a discount. Rec: +Unagi/Anago Kabayaki– go for this if you are an eel fan. $ 20, includes rice and 2 sides(rice, miso soup, or salad). Comes in a nice traditional lunch box. Ok: Tonkatsu $ 20. Noodles is already included with a choice of 2 sides(rice, miso soup, or salad.) The noodles included was chow mein which was a really odd pairing. Any kind of noodle pairing is just odd to be honest with katsu. Why not make it into curry katsu? A side of chopped cabbage is standard which they omitted, though I suppose I’m starting to be picky. The 2 slabs of katsu probably added to the bulk of the $ 20.
