Coach Dave is probably one of the most credentialed black belts in the Boston/Cambridge area so if you’re looking for legitimacy you found it. He coaches professional mma fighters, judges UFC events and still makes jiujitsu approachable for beginners and advanced players. In terms of how the class is run, Ginsberg tends to stress creating a safe environment more than other instructors in the area which I like. He makes sure to spend 1 on 1 time with new members and will spar with everyone so you will get time in with a high level black belt. The gym environment is pretty relaxed and students often mix gi and no-gi in classes so if you favor one or the other, all are welcome. In terms of facilities, there’s a break room with a cold water dispenser in the back(a life saver after practice) a bathroom, and a shower/bathroom. Coach Dave is an extremely supportive individual and the level of dedication he has to his students and to the sport shows. It’s hard to describe, but just drop in and you’ll understand! Overall, I’d say I’m very happy with my experience there. Feels like a home to me where other gyms didn’t.

This is a great place. Coach Dave is an excellent, and caring, instructor, and extremely highly ranked. He teaches almost all classes, so this is not one of those places where a purple belt ends up doing all your teaching. Most classes have a range of students from new white belts to several browns and purples. Even in the beginner classes, there is usually a lot of color on the mat, which can be very helpful for the beginners. The classes are usually small, 8 – 14 people. This can be a downside if you’re hoping for lots of rolling with different people, but is definitely an upside because you get more individual attention from Dave. The students are generally friendly and welcoming to newcomers. There’s not a lot of ego.

An incredible team of people headed by an incredible BJJ instructor. I’ve trained at numerous martial arts gyms along the East Coast and I’d be hard-pressed to name an instructor more concerned about the personal development of his students. Additionally, his credentials as a Pan-American champion and third-degree black belt are highly respectable.
