Is it irony that to promote communism someone opened a store selling books and tshirts? Economic opinions aside this place is a dump. If you want communist books you’ll be better off going on Amazon.

I’m voting two stars because this place is a waste of time, but it’s incredibly entertaining to visit, and significantly less dangerous than comparable entities, like a Scientology front. The shelves are full of old, fraying propaganda books from the Cultural Revolution and pamphlets from cult leader Bob Avakian as well as hardbound sets of Marx, Lenin, and Mao. Also, the owner is this smelly old bearded dude whom I initially thought to be Avakian himself. If you express any interest in the store he’ll press a copy of the cult’s Revolution magazine into your hands. It’s not clear how he pays the rent. There are some normal books as well, but you’d be better off buying them at the Harvard Bookstore, unless if you’re a hardcore leftist trainspotter.

It is about time this place shut down. I’ve never seen such price gauging from purported communists! That being said, if you want your philosophy spoon fed to you by way of Mao and Marx, this place is probably your cup of tea. But if you swim in the waters of economic reality and would like a rounded, logical view of the world, perhaps you should walk a little further down the street and visit Raven Books’ selection of much better economic /political tracts. Seriously, this place is just a store front for a burnt out political movement. Wasted space.

I guess they have a big selection of Marxist literature? It seems overpriced, though, especially the pamphlets which look like they were produced to be free, and I bet a lot of it’s online. They are usually nasty, and I haven’t gone in there after finding the sole employee in the bathroom sitting on the toilet with his pants down facing the open door to the rest of the store…

Revolution Books caters to the little communist in everyone. They sell books on marxism, leninism, maoism, current communist movments, etc. And other stuff too like on women’s movements.
