The food was great! It felt like eating home cooked food and we felt the food was cooked healthy. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends. I wish they make more investment and make it bigger.

Dinner at Suvaai is exactly what I would call the soul food for South Indians. We were so glad to find authentic Sri Lankan food that caters to our pallete. It’s not the usual tangy/greasy chicken tikka masala kinda Indian food you are acquainted with. It’s a small place with homely(south)Indian food. We ordered the kotthu rotti and non veg puttu and were really pleased with what we got. The staff is good and friendly, but since its a small space with less staff, ur waiting time for a table and for food to be served is a little longer than you would expect. Definitely worthy of 4 stars!

I wish I could give this place a higher rating as the owners of this restaurant seem very sweet and committed to making good food. However the service was crazy slow — took us 15 minutes just to get a menu! — and the Sri Lankan veggie curry plate I got came out with a fat strand of hair embedded in the rice. The food was tasty but I found the curries too salty. I think they could make some tweaks to convince me to come back but my first experience was pretty underwhelming.

Edit: This review is copied from the review I gave for«Curry n’ Wok», which is how this restaurant was registered with Unilocal. This is by far the best South Indian — Sri Lankan place I’ve been to. Go here for South Indian or Sri Lankan food. First, the food quality. Very best. Not over-cooked, nor with the stock spice that every random Indian-Pakistani-Bangladeshi-Sri Lankan restaurant food smells and tastes like. The taste is very authentic. Food Variety: Very diverse. Again, not like the stock Chicken Tikka Masala type. Hell, nobody in India eats Chicken Tikka Masala. I’ve tried almost everything in the menu. My personal favourite is the Kothu Paratha, Appam(with treacle), and Chili Bajji. Also try the Madrasi Coffee in the end. Another beautiful entrée is the Srilankan Rotti. I never knew Squash and Cabbage can be cooked so deliciously. For nonveg dishes, try Chicken Chettinad. Edit: I recently tried the Idiyappam(string hopper). Definitely try this platter. It comes with veg dishes of the day, and a bowl of coconut milk. Staff: Cordial and friendly. They are currently under-staffed, but still the service is very prompt. One of them, Premila, had been very nice to us. Overall: It’s a very good place, and the food tastes like the home-cooked ones. If you want to taste true South Indian food, visit this place. Recommend totally!

Authentic srilankan food. Had the chicken kothu which was mouth watering, the chicken 65 which had fresh veggies and was very flavorful and the srilankan fish curry. The fish curry was very fishy and had little fish in it mostly veggies and very watery which is why I am docking a star.

Awesome Sri Lankan food. My Sri Lankan friend brought me here, so I had high expectations from the start. I loved the homey, casual feel of the restaurant as it reminded me of south asia and when I used to live there. We ordered only Sri Lankan dishes — lamb kothu roti(curried veggies and meat with chopped rotis), fish sothy(light coconut milk fish curry) and appam(sri lankan crêpe). All of them were delicious! So flavorful, yet light and not like your typical heavy indian food. The fish was very fresh. The aunty who owns the restaurant and cooks was super personable and friendly. The only thing I was surprised about is the price. for the 3 dishes and 2 ginger teas, it came out to just over $ 50. A little more pricey but definitely worth it!

Delicious grandma style tamilian food with some very traditional dishes like appam and idiyappam. Kid friendly menu. Friendly staff. Will visit again.

From a foodie who has lived in India all his life: Hands down the BEST Indian food in Boston. The couple who runs the restaurant are very warm and welcoming. Feels like home!

I always love eating at Suvaai(now called Cury N Wok). I mainly go for their buffets. They always have a variety of healthy and great tasting and authentic indian food there. I also like how they offer plenty of options free of animal products(milk, meat etc) for the vegans out there like me. There buffet price is decently priced considering the variety of options available. I especially like going to the buffet when I have a cold because all the healthy spices they use in their cooking, help to flush toxins out which is a plus. Thank you to the staff as they are always friendly as well. I look forward to eating there many more times in the future, Lord willing.

Sri Lankan yet very similar to south Indian style. Felt very happy to find something different than the usual curries like saag paneer, aloo dum etc in the buffet. Although there are not many options, the items on the buffet were very very good. Had a sumptuous meal at an Indian buffet after a long time. The hot Ceylon parotha and the dosa(was more like the set dosa in India) were the highlights as they were brought to us fresh off the tava.

My sister called in a huge take-out order for a special big family luncheon. It was important to us that the meal be very authentically Sri Lankan. The person she got on the phone was very knowledgeable and helped us order the PERFECT meal. It was ready when promised and EVERYBODY loved the food. Great restaurant. We’ll be back.

My new favorite restaurant…and that is saying a lot! We found the Cambridge location tonight after trying many Indian restaurants in Cambridge and Arlington. As others have suggested, take a recommendation from your server. The Sri-Lankan fish cutlets, Sri-Lankan coconut Rotti with Sambol, veg curries, and lamb, and Andhra special dosa were all amazingly delicious! The owners were warm and friendly. Forget about Punjabi Dhaba, this is the best South Asian food that I have ever tasted. I will not rest until I have tried everything on their extensive menu. Happy New Year to me!

Most restaurants are known for a couple of their best dishes, but once in a while you find a restaurant so amazing that everything on their menu is spectacular, this was one of these restaurants. The menu they have is very diverse, they serve a range of dishes from Indian, Chinese, Malaysian, Sri-Lankan, I can’t judge the authenticity of the dishes but they were all no doubt delicious! One of our favorites here is Chicken 65, chicken cooked in amazingly spiced sauce and grilled onions and its absolutely heavenly. The Gobi 65 was also great and a great vegetarian option. The butter naan was fresh and crispy. We also tried a spinach curry(Saag) that was great as well. Basically everything we had here were amazing, and you can’t really go wrong with what you order, what a gem of a restaurant, I really wish this restaurant is closer to Central Square :)

Absolutely wonderful experience here with a large party. All of our questions were answered fully as well as food allergies, intolerances, and preferences addressed with great knowledge and care by staff. The food was out of this world delicious! We ended up ordering and sharing multiple dishes. I loved every single one and every plate left the table clean/empty. Note that there is a one card per bill policy. I cannot wait to share this place with everyone I know!

Ok I am totally hooked!!! Never had Sri Lankan before and boy have I been missing some great eats. Everything is made from scratch, just like grandmama would do, and it’s worth the wait. Had a variety of dishes– apps, mains and the famous lamprey– which was excellent. I especially loved the jaggery appam. Thin pancake with this smoky sweet treacle flavored filling. Can’t decide if it is a dessert or a side dish but it was delicious. The owner is such a darling lady and the server gave an in depth talk about how they procure their super fresh ingredients and that they make different curries for lunch and dinner. If anyone has ever made Indian food from scratch, you will know the amount of work needed to make good curries. GO! EAT! A must for the serious foodie!

ITSOPENAGAIN! Suvaai(AKA Curry and Wok, as that sign is still on the building) is the best of the best when talking about Southern Indian Food.(Think Indian Food with more spices and a better variety of Vegetarian options) I have never been disappointed with anything that has come out of the Kitchen. It is always fresh and hot! Food is Halal and very Vegetarian friendly. Also, BYOB. This is a place for people who love good food and want to try new things. I come here regularly and often ask the waiter or even the owner, what I should try and what’s really authentic. They have the staple indian food dishes like saag and vindaloo, but when you venture outside that realm you come across fruit curry dishes, goat fries, shrimp fries, and other dishes that will blow you away. It is a small operation so making the food takes more time than other places. I would not come here for a «quick bite to eat.» Instead, I would come here to enjoy a meal and the company you are with. With some time I feel like this restaurant could become a real staple restaurant of Davis Square/North Cambridge. It is truly the hidden gem in this neighborhood and I can’t wait to see it grow! Next time you’re here I suggest getting the Gobi 65 for an appetizer. So delicious and well spiced, you’d never believe it was a cauliflower dish!

Another vote for Suvaii, I really, really like these folks ! I used to drive 40 minutes to reach their former location, ‘Biryani Park’ way out in Malden, as it was one of the most unique dining experiences in boston. And while the SUVAII incarnation is located in a more traditional space, the menu is largely the unchanged and(The management,(Pramila & her staff) are still just as friendly & welcoming, they will try and take the time to answer any questions which might well crop up. This Siri Lankan cuisine(speaking as one who knows his way around Indian food) is a whole ‘nother ballgame! It is an amazingly varied trip, much of which is nearly impossible to find in the US …(and some of it perhaps a little challenging for the newbie as well.) They are happy to advise you what you may find best, we often share a south indian dosa(with potato masala, sambar, & coconut chutney) along with another entrée, as it’s one of their more recognizable dishes, and flawlessly executed. Be sure to let them know your heat tolerance, as that can be easily adjusted to your comfort level. The small cozy, very unassuming location on a ‘T’ main route, makes it pretty easy to access, and you can spend some time, with some lovely people learning about this complex, varied, largely vegetarian cuisine, Just glad I don’t have to make the trek out to Malden anymore, but even just up on N. Mass. Ave., it still feels like you have found a diamond in the rough. NB.Very good(unusual of course) Daily lunch buffet @ under $ 10– gives you a fine introduction to the whole scene too…

Sri Lankan food was great. I am not sure about rest of the menu. Ordered a Mysore dosa there. I can tell you after living in Bangalore for 6 years, that it was not a Mysore Dosa. Would definitely go there to try more Sri Lankan dishes.

I am please to report that Curry N Wok, a really fine South-Indian restaurant that unfortunately had not caught on with the foodie crowd has been reincarnated as Suvaai(tasty in Tamil). The new management is Sri-Lankan. When we visited for lunch the buffet was not yet operational as the managers still need to judge the level of foot-traffic to avoid making too much food that sits and sits(a common problem in many Indian and Chinese lunch buffets!). That turned out to be a treat as my friend and I were given our own generous cooked-fresh buffet plate, with a fish(and lamb for my friend) curry, ample portion of rice, over a banana(?) leaf, eggplant, sweet potato curry, beet curry, and another really good side of pickled onions(I think). I imagine that this is what it would be like to be invited to have lunch in a Sri Lankan’s friends home and there is no greater food compliment than that! We finished with a fresh ginger chai. I look forward to returning soon where I anticipate awarding another star(I never give more than 4 on the first review).
