Sadly, Zing Pizza is closed. But for great coffee, pastries, Vietnamese rolls and more, go to Zing! Café in Porter Square Books and Kickstand Café in Arlington.

Zing! I can’t believe you are closed! I just got to know your deliciousness less than a year or two ago before you went on that break!!! It won’t be the same without your awesome edible creations around Porter Square. I’m going to miss your Blue October(yummy butternut squash & caramelized onions) pizza :(I would love it if somehow you can reopen at a different spot? Please come back!

Oh, Zing! You changed my conception of pizza, maybe forever. If only I’d known that you wouldn’t be around upon my post-summer return, I would have visited you every day(okay, every week). What an empty autumn this was without your Blue October butternut squash, caramelized onion goodness. And what a sad January without your Dracula’s Dilemma to keep me warm(wherever will I find your tangy pomegranate molasses vinaigrette again? So delightful). I’m not sure I can leave Cambridge without bidding you a proper farewell, so can you please re-open before June? (One of) Your biggest fan(s).

so, i drove by here the other day, and i was so sad to find out that it is temporarily closed for renovations. but im pretty sure its just temporary and theyll be open again soon… anyway, i hope that theyll be open again soon because this place has really delicious pizza! people on here have already mentioned the blue october pizza, but i have just have to reiterate what they have said about it. it is seriously amazing. its my favorite pizza at zing, and with one bite, youll see why. this pizza is so delicious! its original in that its not a typical pizza, but the flavors are all familiar so it doesnt seem too weird. i love this pizza so much! it reminds me a little bit of my favorite pizza from ottos in harvard square(the cranberry, squash, cheese pizza). nom nom. anyway, zing in general is a small little pizza place by porter square that is definitely worth a stop if youre in the area. is small and usually pretty quiet, but they almost always have a pretty good selection of pizzas there. for me, their pizza is a little bit expensive, especially if you purchase a whole pie, but its worth it for the deliciousness of the blue october… sigh…i can cant stop thinking about it! anyway, give zing a chance and stop by – im sure youll find something you love there.

Blue October pizza drizzled with a bit of their yellow hot sauce is amazing! I cannot stand bleu cheese normally, but with squash sauce and baked it is truly incredible. If you are into cool ingredients on your pizza, and always fresh toppings this is your place. Blue October is by far the best thing on their menu. I can’t describe it perfectly, sweet spicy soft and crunchy, its truly an experience for your tastebuds. Don’t bother with their premade salads or their plain cheese pizza, go for the gold(Blue October). If you like Otto(ew) you will probably be blown away by Zing! as it is MUCHHHHHHHHHH better.

Batta Boom Batta Zing! Why are people holding out on me? They must be. I’ve never heard of Zing! until seeing it on Unilocal the other day, and Karen C’s review pushed me over the top, so I tried it. Outstanding, Sir! Their pizza is the real deal. The crust is firm but airy, and passed the lift test(lift a slice, hold from crust, and see if it stays flat or wilts). All the toppings were delicious and the pies were huge! My only gripes: some of their concoctions just weren’t that good: the Dracula’s Dilemma tasted as good as it sounds and the Smokey Dokey Calzone was a bit of a snoozer. My recommendation… keep things simple and that’s where Zing! shines(e.g., get a John Dough with 1 – 2 toppings).

I would have to say that this is my FAVORITE pizza place in Cambridge/Somerville. UpperCrust really cannot compare. First of all, I am not a huge fan of thin crust/NY style pizza; I’m a Chicago style girl. So for me to even try this place was a huge leap to make. I only tried it because there was a groupon for it one week and it’s so close by my house that I thought, what the hey? Sure enough I tried it and I was dazzled. Dracula’s Dilemma is SOGOOD. We ordered a large and I ate half of it in like 4 seconds. Lucky for me there were about 2 other groupon offers for this place a few weeks later… I bought about 4 and have been living off those ever since. I plan to keep getting pizza from this place once we run out of groupons. I am cheap, so that is saying a lot. I’m a big fan of their Smokey Dokey Calzone, which is only $ 10 and HUGE, and their Capitola pizza.

Oh My Goodness. a-ma-zing! Seriously. I loved it. I got delivery and the delivery guy was very sweet and in the time frame that I was told. I ordered 1 pizza, gluten free, half Blue October and half the pepperoni one they had. SO good. The Blue October was seriously to die for and the pepperoni was incredible when I reheated it the next day. I kinda burnt the crust and it just added to its charm… It was the first time I had ordered from them(after stalking their facebook and menu pages quite a bit) and it definitely wont be the last.

Got 10 pies delivered for a lunchtime affair on Sunday — highly recommend the Blue October and the Sundance Kid. The owner himself came through with the order, a sweet guy who wanted to make sure everything tasted great. The rectangular shaped ‘zas tickled my guests pink. They have gluten-free crusts too, woohoo!

Zing! typifies Cambridge and the New England spirit. It’s the independent, quirky, non-chain, locavorian, creative spirit that you pretty much only find near a liberal arts college campus in a progressive state. Just look at their quirky slogan: «fresh! inspired! oblong!(sic)». The oblong is in reference to their pizza shapes, which are neither perfect circles nor perfect rectangles. If you are a kindred spirit, you’ll love it here. The space is tiny and only seats about 12, but the prices are affordable and the quality is good. The Sundance Kid is hot, gooey deliciousness loaded with mozzarella, turkey sausages and caramelized onions. The Smokey Dokey calzone is hot, vegetable-y awesomeness. Unfortunately, none of their topping combos were ideal for me, which is why I can’t give this place 5 stars. The staff are so nice and kept the restaurant open 20 min past their closing time so we could dine in. If you’re in the Porter Sq area, this is a 30-sec walk from the T and totally worth it.

The pizza is pretty good, much better than Stone Hearth right down the street. But, like Stone Hearth, I seriously don’t understand the prices. However, they’ve been on the various groupon sites a few times so I appreciate them for that! We ordered the blue october, their most popular pizza with an inventive butternut squash spread, goat cheese, etc and it was very tasty as expected. I also ordered Dracula’s dilemma which was everything it said it was except if cherry tomatoes is one of the main ingredients, why skimp on it? What a weird ingredient to skimp on(it’s not even expensive). Also the amount of pomegranate molasses is overwhelming after one slice. I probably will not order this one again. On my dime, I don’t think I’d ever pay full price for their pizzas but as long as they keep agreeing to do the groupon thing, I’ll keep eating Zing for awhile! One word of caution is I ordered for delivery on a Friday night and they said it would be 1 hour, 20 min wait, which turned out to be accurate. So if it’s a weekend night, order early, this place is popular!

I’ve walked by this place countless times on my way to Porter Station, and other than taking a quick glance at its cutesy outdoor table and hand written quotes of Unilocal reviews on the window, I hadn’t really paid it much attention. And, O.K., I must admit, the location it’s in encourages me to rush past it quickly, because there are so many«canvasers» trying to part me from my money and time for various«good» organizations. That aside, up until a few weeks ago, the closest I came to being a Zing customer was when a friend of mine ordered a cheese and mushroom pizza, which seemed bland and I just didn’t like. Then, one day, as I was trying to rush past the«canvas» zone trying not to make eye contact with anyone, a Zing pizza employee came out with a fresh, piping hot, free-sample pizza! The gorgeously prepared, cheese bubbling pizza with its deliciously sweet and savory aroma was far too much for me to ignore – so I broke out of my «not a target» persona and got a free sample. As I walked away eating my free piece of «Blue October» pizza, I knew they had just scooped me up as a new customer. The butternut squash sauce is genius along with the caramelized onion and pungent blue cheese. Seriously, the caramelized onion seems wine infused or something – so flavorful! An otherwise«boring» crust pairs beautifully and provides a perfectly welcome crunch to liven up the texture. What can I say, it’s heavenly, and I am a «Blue October» addict.

Unusual, absolutely delicious pizza. They also have really unusual sodas that are fun to try: burdock root and licorice, pumpkin pie soda, Victorian lemonade, to list just a few. Friends of mine drive to and from Chelsea for the opportunity to come here. The focus on organic and local food is REALLY appealing, too.

Zing has thin-crust pizza(I remember it was ONLY thin crust?), covered in crazy combinations of toppings that change daily. I had the butternut squash pizza and the one with carmelized onions. They do the«unneeded quirky name thing» for their pizzas, and as I always feel awkward ordering using those, I’ve forgotten what the real names for the butternut squash pizza and the carmelized onion pizza were. I bet it was something cute. Anyway, both pizzas tasted fantastic, and I’ll probably order from here when I’m craving something strange. The reason I’ll order, though, and not go back to the physical location, is that when I went, the store was filled with smoke for the hour I was there. Enough smoke that I could barely see what I was eating. So, hopefully their ventilation has been fixed since February. Extra star for offering natural sodas and having friendly counter people who are willing to work in a smoke-filled environment(and crazy hours!). Edit: I DID go back, and it was not as smoky as last time, still awesome pizza.

This place still has some kinks to work out, but they are a great addition to the area and have unique pizzas that are worth a trip. At any one time you have about 4 options for kinds of pizza. The pizzas are huge, but you can get two different kinds if you don’t want to limit yourself to one. I tried a half pesto, half john dough the first time and both halves were outstanding. My second visit i had half eggplant, half chicken teryaki, neither of which quite worked.

Blue October heaven. That’s all I have to say. Absolutely delish. They deliver, it’s awesome, etc. (If you think you might get super hungry, though, order early– my delivery took a full hour.)

Walking home from volunteering at Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic(which I found through its awesome Unilocal reviews), freezing and starving and knowing I had no food at home, this loomed out of the cold night like a beacon of hope(… too much?). Their sign said they use organic and local ingredients, which is always a plus(and apparently they’re conscientious about waste! Hooray!), and their specials all looked innovative in a good way. This is definitely not boring pizza. And, awesomely, they do pizza by the slice! I love a pizza place you can eat at without getting a whole pie, and I love it more when they have more slices available than just cheese. It was a totally reasonable $ 2.00 for a plain, $ 2.50 or $ 2.75(depending on if it has meat) for one of their three specials of the day — one of which was my elusive darling, pumpkin pizza(!!), with mozzarella and yellow peppers and I forget what else. It was DEEPLYDELICIOUS. Large slice, thin crust. Kind of similar to Emma’s. Everyone working there was really friendly, and seemed to get along well. They tossed my slices in the big oven to warm them up, which is always nice. Great atmosphere. It’s not big, but there are several tables for seating. This is an awesome addition to Porter. I can’t wait to go back and try the roti. EDIT: Okay, so I went back the next day and had the roti — curried potatoes, chickpeas, green beans and squash wrapped in flatbread — SO good, and refreshingly different. You can get it with chicken, too, and I believe they trade out the fillings, except for the potatoes and chickpeas. Mild, yellow curry. The menu says it’s popular in Trinidad. Roti is $ 6 for vegetarian, $ 7 with meat, and definitely meal-sized.
