Nothing, but nothing, prepares you for the fun you have the moment you walk into«the Buttons». First, the greeting. which is remarkably friendly and interested in YOU, and second, the quality of the elegant merchandise, both women’s and men’s. The prices are eminently fair for fine, fine FINE comfortable, beautifully styled classics, but these are classics with an edge, a super twist to the upside. My husband’s entire wardrobe is from the Admiral’s Buttons. My own wardrobe is very nearly entirely from the Buttons. I have never left that store empty handed, despite my vows to buy nothing. I can’t help myself. I love the wearable, elegant clothing and feel wonderful when I wear whatever comes from this small, delightful jewel of a shop. Treat yourself to a visit to the Admiral’s Buttons if you’re in Camden, ME.

This is a shop filled with traditionally styled clothing for men and women located on a side-street off the main drag in downtown Camden. My husband was looking for a nautical flags belt to replace one that has worn out. The shop is owned by husband and wife Woody and Carole Emanuel who are both lovely and enormously helpful. The clothes are high-quality classic items. They have a few fun yet still tasteful items like the skull and crossbones bow tie that my husband wanted to snap up but the neck size was not a good fit so he had to pass it up. In it’s stead he bought a nice quality cotton baseball hat with an embroidered skull and cross bones design. Fun aside, many of the items here are ones that you’d be happy to wear to to the office or more conservative events. Prices are not inexpensive. There is casual wear here too with a nice selection of traditional New England prep favorites. Nantucket reds, anyone? This is a boating and sailing town so foul weather gear is needed. Here you’ll find brands like like Henri Lloyd. Viyella shirts are well represented. The owners provide attention to detail and they clearly aim to please. Interspersed here and there throughout the store the owners display and sell Victoria Rattigan pottery from her local company Shard Pottery of Maine whose blue boat design pieces I collect. They also had pieces of her more colorful Camden Harbor collection. If you want to get in touch with your inner Buffy or Biff this is your place. They lose a star for selling real fox fur women’s jackets. Go faux.
