By far, the best local pub in the area. Food is fantastic. Staff is personable and attentive. Down to earth, hometown watering hole. If you think you are walking into a spot with cloth napkins, where etiquette is a must, don’t even put the car in park. Drive away in your Luxury car and stay away. But, if you want atmosphere, good food, and fun, pull the pick-up into the lot and stay a while. I am proud to call The Horse«my» place. Absolutely wonderful!

Don’t let the dirt lot and exterior fool you. Inside is a warm cozy pub. Service is excellent. Portions huge well executed and REASONABLE. You can tell the chefs take pride in what is served. Burgers were excellent chicken special as good as you can get in Orange County. Best part… Had salmon special on a Saturday night. $ 13.95 came with salad rice and veg and honestly was as good as a it gets! Only thing keeping it from 5 stars was a very limited beer wine menu but a minor flaw that easily can be fixed!

Prime rib sandwich with gravy was pretty good. Fries were good. Homemade potato chips were amazing. Saw the local regulars get treated real good, which they should. The waitress was very polite, friendly and easy to get along with. I’ll go back.

Excellent chicken wings, excellent service, just a great place to eat in orange county. I’d recommend this place to anyone who is traveling through the area!

My husband & I visited tonight with great expectations because my hair dresser recommended this place… Well, Sorry to say it was not a great experience to say the least! Ordered the prime rib(rare) — potatoes were hard and under cooked, prime rib was totally raw, tasteless and extremely tough, au-jus tasted like dish water. Every time someone came in the door all you smelled was smoke from folks smoking outside the building. Definitely not fine dining, something you would find in Louisiana back woods! We will NEVER be back !

I went to the Horse and Sulky last year on my birthday with friends from out of town and we all fell in love with you. I have been there about 10 times since. The people are friendly who work there and also who dine there. It feels like home. They give you a big bowl of free home made potato chips. The food in so flavorful and the portions are huge. They don’t mind if you substitute things on their menu to fit your needs. They are not cheap with the wine portions either. I have not yet been there for the live music but intend to go. I really enjoy myself every time I go. The fish and chips is my very favorite. It’s well worth the visit.

Possibly one of the best burgers I have ever had. Portions are Hugh and the everything taste great. Fries come with some appetizers to my surprise. Fresh potato chips are served and they don’t stop refilling. Get ready to eat when you go. This place is a gem in the rough

Hey, it was late, it was raining, we were STARVING and in Campbell Hall in the middle of nowhere. What do you do? Honestly, that’s what made me think of the Horse & Sulky, though I only knew about it through having seen a review on Unilocal.Good thing I keep up with this stuff. We might have starved otherwise with nothing around for miles! All kidding aside, I had known this place as «The Trail Inn» and a few others over the years and I always liked it, especially this time of year. Sarah Wells Trail in fall is amazing and to have this place alone among that scenery just adds to the experience. While many places may bring you bread or tortilla chips and salsa right away, and many pubs bring you nothing, we were brought a basket of fresh-cut, very thin potato chips made on-premises. Different and welcomed and were good. Could have been better and the majority of the reason I only gave 4 stars. The concept alone is a points earner but they were a bit saturated, characteristic of oil not hot enough in the fryer and not quite seasoned enough. Again, these were a nice touch, despite the room for improvement. Dinner took care of the rest. There are certain things I look for on menus and sweet potato fries are one of them. I can say honestly, they were done right — very right. I ordered the«Standard Bred» described on the menu as «A generous portion of shaved ribeye steak smothered with sauteed mushrooms, peppers and onions topped with melted Swiss cheese. Served with hot gravy to dip(by which they meant Au Jus) and a crisp pickle.» It was also served with fries and I opted for the sweet potatoes. Excellent choice. I am usually a fish and chips man in a pub such as this but couldn’t resist the Standard Bred. Thankfully my wife ordered the fish and chips but also did the sweet potato fries. I know, I know, my pub friends… sac-relig, but my wife doesn’t get these things. Don’t hold it against her, she isn’t from here. Pubs don’t exist in her corner of Europe… what was I talking about, again? Oh, yeah, the meals. I couldn’t fully evaluate fish & chips without the chips. Yes it was difficult to enjoy my meal witnessing this across the table. But I managed somehow. The steak sandwich was near-perfect, lacking a little salt. So was the Au Ju however, I did thoroughly enjoy all of it, rather quickly, then eyeing my wife’s cod, which I knew she wouldn’t finish. The fish was excellent and I wish to have been able to taste it with chips. In her defense, she didn’t finish the sweet potato fries either, which was to my direct advantage and benefit! Overall, great little pub atmosphere and watched the Royals take the pennant on the large screen while enjoying my meal and the ambiance. I am definitely coming back and plan to bring friends with me. This is a great place to hang out and have your attention on each other. The rest takes care of itself. Well done, Horse and Sulky, you had me at «fresh potato chips» and you get four stars. Highly recommend.

I heard great things about this little place, but the magic wasn’t on last night. The place itself seemed a little funky, not the off-beat way, the«needs a good cleaning» way. The burger and salad we ordered were just ok. Fries were very greasy. The staff was attentive and polite. There were only 3 tables in use at 7pm on a Saturday.

What an awesome place for a late night dinner. Cold beer, strong mixed drinks, huge onion rings, great calamari. Actually pretty good prices too — my gf got wasted, oops. The steak was really good too, we ordered it rare and for once it actually came out rare instead of being over cooked. Only complaint was that the fish tasted like mud…

First timers /lunch today. Ordered calamari 7 $. Okay. Came with great fries. Could have been my lunch. we had penne ala vodka. Huge, did I say huge portion with chicken on top. Not bad, but not the best I have had. And a caesar salad with chicken. The caesar salad was huge and was very good. Wrapped up half of each. I would come back to try the prime rib(fri) and seafood(sat) night. I also would split the entrees we ordered as they are both very large. Service very good. Cute place inside.

I have hesitated to write a review because I’m not sure I want The Horse and Sulky to get more popular! Want to wear jeans and a t-shirt and go out for an excellent meal? Here’s your place. First, the staff is incredible. Kelly, Janelle, Danielle, and Andrew will take care of your bar needs and service. They are warm, welcoming and very attentive. The food is some of the best in Orange County. Homemade potato chips on the table when you arrive. Whenever steamed clams are on the menu we order those and they’re excellent.(I do wish there was bread available to dip into the broth!) We’ve never had a bad meal here. Burgers and steak are my favorite, husband has had salmon, pasta and shepherd’s pie and raved about them all. And then there’s the price. Two rounds of drinks, appetizer, two entrees that include a salad with homemade dressing and not a hint of iceberg lettuce is under $ 70. Just please don’t go next Saturday and take our table.

Horse & Sulky in Campbell Hall, NY not only ripped us off for $ 100 the first time we played there, They then accused me of calling their restaurant names when I asked to clarify the amount we would be making the second time! I didn’t do such a thing and I let them slide on the first gig rip-off as they are a neighborhood club and we thought we would slowly build a following. We have a following in other places. Even Europe as I am a female lead guitarist who played in bands on Warner Brothers and even worked for Bono of U2. I used to play with others such as Jerry Lee Lewis and John Sebastian, for example. We are a pro band that played in a local pub thinking we would be at least treated well. At the beginning of the night, as they were very busy, I DID ask them to clarify that we would be making at least what they gave us last time and when they wouldn’t tell us that we were making a specific figure, I said that we couldn’t play at all without some kind of knowledge of what we would be making as that was the lowest amount we have ever played for. Anyway. we played anyway for 3 hours! THEN at the end of the night the accosted me. saying that I called the club«low-end». he also said that the bartenderess who told him this said I was DRUNK when I said it. No way! I was clearly not drunk even at the end of the show. I had one glass of wine all night and this was after the supposed comment was(NOT) made. This bartendress either made this up for some unknown reason or she misheard me. Wouldn’t you want to know that you misheard something rather than think that someone said that about your club? I guess not because they insisted(in front of customers no less) that I absolutely said this. It really hurt my feelings as I am not someone who would ever play a place I thought was low-end, number one and even if it turned out to be one, I would never say that to them or in the place or anywhere. It is bad band business. Period. Anyway, we got paid, but I will say I was WARNED about this place and I am warning you not to bother gigging there. You will be ripped off and you will be bad mouthed. It’s a real Jerry Springer vibe. Not worth playing all night only to be treated badly and called a liar even though they paid us. THEPOINTIS. I pride myself on having a good reputation with clubs and club owners. I will not let this place put words in my mouth or call me a liar. We don’t want other clubs to think that we are not gracious people. I even let that bastard slide on the money he stole the first time! HESHOULDBEGLAD I DIDN’T BADMOUTHHIMBEFORENOW! Now, he has earned being blasted. We are a known band in The Hudson Valley but in our own neighborhood, we are not known because we play elsewhere and for good reason. Before this even happened, a club owner from another place warned us about this guy and this place. I will sue them for defamation of character if I hear anything coming from them. That is a THREAT. The next 3 gigs we played this week made up for that horrible scene. We are loved everywhere we play because we work VERY hard and have a long history of being a great band. F this place. the food is good. I will not put down the food. They need to get a brain and they might actually have a nice music scene there. I am banned from this place. just so you know. the only thing I will miss is their terrific food! :-D

Hidden treasure. Little pub restaurant with great beer and burger. Don’t be afraid to order a NY Strip, excellent. Great entertainment on the weekend and karaōke on Thursday if your into that.
