Bascom House Apartments

Unprofessional and extremely unfriendly. It’s cheap living but you pay for what you get: rude property manager and building is extremely old so walls and floorboards are thin. The recently-​hired property manager doesn’t have any people-​skills.

I’m wondering what happened to all the reviews for this place. There were a lot of them going way back to like 2007.
I think it’s weird that they no longer exist. Most of them were negative, and I know the owner of this property is a lawyer so I’m curious about why everything for this place is gone.
Anyway here is my experience.
The contract they have you sign is 3 or so pages. It seems basic, (no guests in the pool, no overnight guests unless you pay 1% of your rent per night) but then it states that the tenant must paint their own unit.
In California, paint is considered normal wear and tear, and when the resident moves, the painting is to be performed by the manager…
UNLESS you sign a contract agreeing to do it yourself. (unless you want it taken out of your deposit)
These folks would enter my unit when they THOUGHT I was not home, and then I was scolded for not answering my door when they knocked. I also know several other residents this has happened to.
One person ended up moving out because they could no longer sleep, totally terrified that someone was going to enter their unit.
They charge for you for a key card to get in and out of the gates. You CANNOT leave without this key, so if you realize at night that you’ve lost it, you are stuck. If there is a fire, you’re stuck! Other residents constantly were vandalizing and breaking the gate so that it would stay open.
Just do your homework if you are considering living here.

Great starter apartments, the rent is cheap and the grounds are nice. We’ve never had problems with noise (the apartments on either side of us are vacant), also we’ve never had problems with cars getting broken into either.
