Last year I would up in the ER with massive migraines. As it turned out after many tests and procedures, they weren’t your normal migraines but, it was Leukemia and not only Leukemia, but, I also had it in my brain. BONUS! I am forever grateful that Dr. Man was on call that day and that she became my oncologist. I was completely ignorant and in too much pain to know very much but she was wonderful! She always took time to see me daily while I was in care in the hospital, explaining things to my parents and to myself. She cared for me physically but emotionally as well and now that I am in remission, she is still caring for me helping me to process what happened to me. She never overwhelmed us but always told us just the next steps so we would know what to expect or to know what was going to happen. It’s so easy with cancer to fret over what will happen 4 months down the line, or what care will look like if a certain chemo drug doesn’t work or whatever and though Dr. Man could answer these questions the best she could, she also always helped bring us back to the present so we would not bite off more than we could chew. When my care became complicated due to infections and random weird brain things, Dr. Man was able to consult with other doctors at Stanford and UCSF. The Leukemia specialists all said that she had me in the normal course of care for my cancer. She was not afraid to consult with other doctors which to me is amazing! She was always up to date on facts and information regarding my disease and she would personally administer my chemo into my brain in a professional and caring way using the newest techniques, always careful to explain to me what was going on. I love Dr. Man and couldn’t imagine being under the care of a different oncologist!

I took my father, who recently had surgery for colon cancer, to Dr. Man for the first time. My father’s surgeon said it was routine to see an Oncologist after this kind of surgery. My father was a bit worried because he had a tough recovery. Every step of the way had been tough for him. I accompanied my father and as soon as we met Dr. Man, we felt a sense of peace — she was so kind, so warm, so empathetic. She explained the biopsy report in a way that a non-medical personnel could understand. She even drew a picture of the different layers that the cancer penetrated. She explained how many lympth nodes that the surgeon removed and why that was done, etc. She was very thorough and made it so easy to understand. She answered all of our questions and in the end, she wrapped up by advising my father to eat more fiber(fruits/veggies), take Vit D3 daily, walk at least 30 minutes a day, and most importantly, to follow up with another colonoscopy in 1 year. She also welcomed any follow-ups should my father wish to see her again or talk to her for anything. My father thought they were going to poke him and do another blood draw and/or chemo. He was so relieved! There should doctors like Dr. Man who is patient and warm and realy cares about the patients. Thank you so much Dr. Man!
