We stayed NYE during a birthday trip to Turning Stone. The room was tiny but the bed was decent and the bedding was clean. The shower was great but the toilet would run unless you jiggled the handle. It had a small flat panel TV, single serve coffee maker, refrigerator, and a microwave. We slept horribly of course due to other guests slamming their doors all throughout the night. The lack of common courtesy is amazing now a days. Breakfast was coffee, tea, apple juice, orange juice, 2 different cereals, bagels, toast, fruit, and microwavable cheese omelets. The worst thing about the room was the damage to the walls and the bathroom door you could see. It literally looked like someone threw chairs around the room at some point during a massive fight. Several dents could be seen in different places in the walls and there was close to the same damage to the bathroom door. They should take the time to spackle over those and fix them. All in all it wasn’t bad and we would stay again if we were in the area.

Coming home from a long drive back from Chicago I wanted to work a visit to the Boxing Hall of Fame into my road trip. Nearest hotel is right across the street, Days Inn. The good: it is right off the exit from I-90, there is a Dunkin Donuts next door, Boxing Hall of Fame is across the street, and a decent diner(Flo’s Diner) about 5 minutes away. The rooms were old but clean, the staff was friendly. The not-so-good: beds were old and uncomfortable. My mattress sunk in the middle like a hammock. Woke up with an achy back. Furniture is somewhat run down. Kind of pricey at $ 130 per night. I’m guessing the proximity to Sylvan Beach, especially during summer, is why the price is a little high for a Motel 6 quality room that is almost in the middle of nowhere.

For the price — we paid $ 100 — you should get much better. Shower was not clean — shower head covered in mildew, Toilet seat hinge bolts exposed and rusted. Mattresses worn and packed down in middle. AC was noisy. The few good points were Wifi and TV did work, and front desk did assure room request for handicapped room was honored. If we hand paid $ 50 or less, we might have expected as much… It’s just overpriced.

My boyfriend was in a poker tournament at Turning Stone, and I wanted a place where I could work during the day and hang out with him at night. At first, I looked at Turning Stone to see what I could get really close to the casino. I could stay really close by, for $ 250 a night!!! What!!! On a Tuesday night! This isn’t Vegas… So I found the Days Inn in Canastota for $ 70 a night. I’ll agree with the girl who reviewed this two years ago, the hotel is older. But for that price I wouldn’t expect anything fantastic. They did have free wi-fi which worked very well, flat screen tvs(must have updated since the previous review) with HD channels included, and a free breakfast(cereal, coffee and bagels). And it was right next to a Dunkin Donuts and a McDonalds. Everyone was very nice to us, and it was absolutely worth the money!
