First time here and it was great! Found a new favorite spot. GREAT food, great service. Food came fast and hot. Good big portions, same price as Denny’s or Sharis but you get quality food here.

First off, I want to say that Pappy is a wonderful guy and super friendly. You can tell he takes so much pride in his little diner. You don’t see that very much anymore which is great! I wish that had been accompanied by great service and food though. We recently moved here and had heard numerous people say how amazing the food was. We just had to try it! We came in at 10:30 and it took a bit to get a table since they were pretty busy… totally understandable and we didn’t have a problem waiting. Got seated and got our drinks right away which was nice. Took a little bit to get our order taken but with only one waitress that’s understandable as well. Once our order was taken, we waited almost an hour for our food. An hour! Throughout our wait, the diner had cleared out quite a bit so I couldn’t really understand why it took SO long. I ordered an omelette and for $ 9.50 I was really disappointed. The omelette itself was brown and had very over cooked ingredients. I ordered country gravy to be put on the omelette and wish I wouldn’t have. It didn’t have a lot of flavor and wasn’t the normal consistency. The potatoes were pretty good though. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs which he said was decent. He said it was just warm though, not hot. The waitress was busy so I didn’t exactly expect her to stop and visit or be super friendly, but she literally came to the table and took our order with no personality whatsoever and later on in the meal came up to ask how things were and didn’t even wait for an answer before she walked off. Sometimes something as simple as a smile works wonders!!! They called a guy to come in and help though that isn’t even an employee… I know I’ve seen him work at Denny’s in town before and he’s an AMAZING worker. He did a great job making things flow a lot better and it was good to see him there. Without him, I don’t know if we would have gotten refills on our drinks. Unfortunately we won’t be back due to the wait and the quality of the food. I really hoped to have a new favorite spot. I’m sure they’ll be there for many years to come due to the committed locals though. I just figure if you need to wait that long for food it should be amazing.

I had some time one day so decided to stop here for lunch. It was my first time in. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. The burger was good, as were the fries. I thought it was way overpriced. While I was there another customer was there and the waitress spent the entire time chatty loudly with this person. She did not every check in to see if I needed anything. The food was good, but I was underwhelmed by the service and price. I have heard breakfast is better, and I know that service can be tough when a place is super slow.

Good food and friendly staff. Mike the owner trys very hard for you to have a pleasent dining experience. Breakfasts is always good and served hot and fresh. Burgers are good and prices are fair. Place does get. Busy.

My wife and I eat at Pappy’s regularly — mostly breakfast, but occasionally for lunch. Great food, reasonable prices, huge portions in a clean, well lit environment. Mike(Pappy) has been in the business for a long time. His antics keep patrons in stitches, but he’s serious about providing tasty, «diner» style meals at affordable prices. Pappy’s serves without question the best breakfast in Canby and possible in the county.

No no no! I have heard people RAVE about this place. Decided to go for breakfast and I was very disappointed. We showed up at 8am, and the place was busy. thought that was a good sign. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was NOTGOOD. Probably the worst I have ever had. My dad was adding so much pepper to his just to try and give it some flavor. Mine was cold, and the gravy seriously tasted like leftover dinner gravy. It was brown in color, and thin. Not the white meat loaded gravy you would expect. A little spendy and I would much rather of eaten at home. Pappy did stop by the table to take our order. Seems like a nice guy.

First time here and we absolutely loved it. We were greeted by Pappy himself when we walked in. He shook our hands and welcomed us in. The atmosphere is really light and fun. Lots of memorabilia and photographs from old Hollywood. The food was AMAZING! Definitely recommend this place!

I’m giving this top ratings for food and service. If you want excellent, hearty food and a great atmosphere, this is a small town restaurant you should visit. For less $ than a chain restaurant you’ll get much better food and a familiar face that doesn’t forget you.

Perfect ‘greasy spoon’ breakfast! Diner décor on the inside with friendly faces and service! Pappy himself came out and introduced himself as he bussed tables. It’s a fun and friendly atmosphere. Chicken fried steak for breakfast is SOGOOD! Perfect Sunday breakfast spot!

Great people, awesome food and a nice place to eat. There’s friendly fun service here, the food is really good(try the corned beef hash), and the interior is full of collectibles all in all it’s a great spot to stop for breakfast.

Some of the nicest people I ever met. They know how to run a restaurant. They have the old style service going for them with lots of smiles and laughs. The food is fine as is the coffee. However, I’ll be back more for the atmosphere and experience.

I loved the décor of this place, felt like I was in the 50’s — 60’s. All it needed was a waitress in a poodle skirt to take my order. I heard great things about this place so maybe my expectations were high. I ordered the omelette with their corned beef and a vanilla milkshake. The omelette was decent flavor wise. It didn’t standout to me. Portions were average compared to everywhere else. The milkshake stood out for me, I didn’t like it. Tasted a little watery. Wouldn’t order that ever again. Maybe it was just me and what I ordered but I don’t like the taste of the place. Atmosphere was great

The name really says it all. The atmosphere and vibe is really conservatively country, felt like it was 1950. The food was pretty solid but make sure you know that it is food cooked with lard and if you are not familiar with that taste, it might throw you off. I had the chicken fried steak. The steak was solid, and the eggs were solid as well. The gravy threw me off, it tasted bland and more liquidity than I’m used to, especially from a place like this I was hoping for a thick country gravy. Service was great, the owner came out and introduced himself, and the food came out rather quick considering it’s all home made.

Great atmosphere! Great food! Even better people. The name says it all. Love the décor. Love the pancakes that take up the entire plate! Biscuits and gravy are amazing. I have yet to finish a plate the serving sizes are so generous. This is our Saturday morning«go to». We have never been disappointed with a menu selection.

I’ve been here only for lunch. Not exactly a «farm-to-table,» Portland-style place, but for what it is, it’s pretty good. They cut their French fries themselves, and the fries are delicious. If only they would use better ketchup and condiments. Swap out the corn-syrup-laden Hunt’s or Heinz for Portland Ketchup Co., please! The space is light and airy with counter seating in addition to plenty of tables. Loquacious, friendly owner.

I don’t hand out 5 stars to anyone, and this isn’t my first experience here. Each time it’s been 5 stars. The food is freshly cooked, and greasy. It’s a home style breakfast with the most outstanding service! Probably THE best I’ve ever had. We have come in the weekends and are consistently greeted by Pappy himself. They’re what makes for the best total experience.

Let me begin by saying this restaurant was definitely one-of-a-kind. There atmosphere and Decour that they provide is one to remember it’s almost like you walking back in time when you enter this restaurant. The customer service is not of one you would remember, they treat you as if you were just at their house eating their food which is awesome saying that there’s no other way that I would like to be treated. Their menu had a wide variety of different types of food one that would suffice for anybody’s appetite. We specifically went there for breakfast and expecting not much how over they had a good selection for breakfast one of my favorite things that I enjoyed was they had this very large order for reckless or $ 25 that we were able to split between three people it was fantastic food great service something that I would definitely recommend to anybody in the area or if your willing to make the drive!

My family owns a 50’s diner in Southern Oregon. My Dad started our café outside Klamath Falls and my brother now runs the restaurant. Like our family-ran joint, Pappy’s is owned and ran by a feisty and mischievous, father and son duo. Coca-Cola, Elvis and Marilyn memorabilia frame the small diner’s walls inside a deceiving strip-mall. On an ordinary day, you’d very likely chalk this up to nothing but a little gift shop in a cheesy old-town shopping center. There are virtually no windows, although there’s a small one in the doors to the hallway, resembling that of a high school classroom from 1985. The owner is fun and animated in the best of ways. He truly knew many of the patrons by name and made idle chit-chat with Joe-Bob about his Dad’s tractor business and Mary-Sue about having to put her mom in a care facility. It genuinely felt as though I was sitting on an episode of Gilmore Girls, while Luke served me cups of coffee with cream and sides of sarcasm, and relayed all the town gossip to me, without my request. He seemed sincerely interested in all of his customers. Asked us where we were from and why the hell we hadn’t stopped in long ago since we lived nearby. He told us of his wife passing away and him and his son learning to live without the woman that was his reason for living. Pappy is not his name, nor was it a nickname of his. It is, however, a brand of Whiskey-Bourbon. I’ll take a wild guess at Mike’s favorite drink of choice… The food was everything I’d come to expect from a diner — hot, fresh, and homemade. So the gravy isn’t like your grandma made it… it’s certainly the gravy that someone’s grandma made. It wasn’t 5 stars in the cleanliness department(c’mon, it’s two men running the joint), but the food and service is just not what you come across anymore. Frank and authentic people, telling like it is as if he was your Grandpa himself, smart-ass and all. Good food, reasonable prices. Best damn breakfast in Canby, handsdown.

Canby’s best kept secret! Hands down the best breakfast we’ve had in a long time. The food is just like grandma use to make on a Saturday morning. Corned Beef used for hash and the Reuben made in-house as well as the delicious sausage patties. The wait staff is super friendly with just the right amount of sass. If your unsure what you want to eat they’re willing to make you a half and half. My husband had ½ eggs benedict with ½ chicken fried steak with the eggs, toast and home fried potatoes. Their pancakes truly are the size of the plate including the Mickey Mouse one I ordered for our 2 yr old. But they’re the BEST pancakes you’ll ever eat. We only ate here for breakfast but based on previous reviews we will definitely be back for lunch in the very near future. Some things to consider before you go… It’s not fast food it’s good food. So stop by when you have an hour or so to kill. Also looks are deceiving from the outside. Their new hours are 6am-2pm Su-Sa
