It just doesn’t get any better. The inn keepers are super engaging and welcoming. We stayed in the Julia room and loved it. The bed was cozy with soft comfy linens. Breakfast was amazing. You just don’t want to leave. Bravo to the Cape Charles House. You do it right.

We almost weren’t able to make it for our reservation and ended up pulling a lot of strings to get there… But it was much needed relaxation once we arrived. First impressions: the house itself is beautiful inside and out. We walked in and the smell of fresh baked goodness filled the air. We were warmly greeted by Carol, she showed us to our room and explained a few things about the house and our stay to us. Accommodations: We reserved the smallest of their rooms but it was perfect for us. I enjoyed reading the history of our room, which is available for all the rooms, and learning that the furniture and artwork were original pieces. After Carol showed us to our room she told us to «snoop» around… And we did. We were able to peek into all of the rooms. Everything seemed to be organized in a very lived in way, from books on each furniture piece, to hand drawn artwork and family pictures hanging on the walls. Hospitality: Carol and Bruce were extremely friendly and welcoming. It felt as if we were staying with family. Carol showed us a map and directed us to some of the shopping and restaurants in the area. She invited us to come back for cheese and wine at 5, which we were more than happy to accept. We enjoyed our cheese and wine for hours in the parlor and were encouraged to move about as we pleased. Breakfast: my husband and I are«foodies» and agree that Carols cooking was absolutely delicious. She used fresh garden herbs and spices and made us the best breakfast we have eaten in quiet a long time. Everything from the fresh fruit to the juice was perfect. We were both sad to leave the quiet, warm, inviting home of Carol and Bruce… But we have already planned to return again in the future. I highly recommend this bed & breakfast. 5 stars for sure!!!

We stayed here for the weekend in early June, and had a wonderful time. The owners are experienced and absolutely joyful hosts. Carol’s breakfasts were excellent, our room was very clean, Bruce was wonderfully accommodating to our requests, and both Bruce and Carol had excellent suggestions for activities in the area. The first floor and porch are great places to talk and meet your fellow guests. The walk to shopping and dining on Mason is nice(especially if you walk along Tazewell, with its line of 100-year old homes, four or five blocks to Strawberry or Pine, and then two blocks to Mason), and should be an easy one for most guests. It’s a great way to experience Cape Charles!

I can’t say enough about Bruce and Carol and their wonderful bed and breakfast. The rooms are warm and cozy, inside of a beautiful house on a quiet street. The B and B is a short walk from the main street. While the amenities are great, the heart of this house is the warm and wonderful hospitality of Bruce and Carol. I could write volumes about how thoughtful and accommodating Bruce and Carol are, but suffice it to say that you won’t be disappointed staying at the Cape Charles House.

This is perhaps one of the best b&bs I’ve ever been to. The attention to detail and the hospitality from owners Bruce and Carol is seriously unparalleled. Let me start from the beginning. Last Christmas, the bf got me a gift card from the bed and breakfast association of Virginia, which was good at any member b&bs. Our weekend getaways typically take us west to the CVille area, but we decided a good switch up was in order. After scouring the website and looking at probably every b&b listed, we decided on the Eastern Shore and Cape Charles. We ultimately chose the Cape Charles House B&B based on the Julia Wilkins room being available on our desired weekend. I mean, who wouldn’t want to wake up in a cheerful blue room, complete with a jacuzzi tub and a private balcony? And yes, the room also happened to be featured on HGTV’s «If Walls Could Talk»… but that’s just a fun fact that didn’t actually play into our decision. On our trip down from Richmond, we hit traffic so I called to give the owners a heads up that we might miss the typical check-in time. Bruce answered the phone and couldn’t have been nicer. He told us not to worry at all, to drive safe, and even gave us suggestions for stopping for a bite outside of town if we were going to be super late. Turns out, we made it inside the usual window, but that phone call was a fantastic first impression. From the moment we arrived at Cape Charles House, we were smitten. The inn is a stately home with a huge wrap-around front porch, complete with rockers and multiple seating clusters. The resident cat greeted us at the door, which also happened to display a welcome note with our names on it. Complimentary wine and cheese is served every evening, so Bruce was in the kitchen preparing the treat. Let me tell you, this was the cutest wine and cheese presentation I’ve ever received. Each couple staying at the b&b is given their own personal silver tray, with two wine glasses, an assortment of crackers, and the incredibly enticing spreadable cheese — prepared with herbs from the garden, and served on a large seashell! Seriously awesome. As if that wasn’t enough, the breakfasts are five-star worthy in and of themselves. Carol is an incredible culinary genius, and our multi-course breakfasts included home-baked muffins, fresh fruit, and combinations of eggs, morning meats, grits, goat cheese, fresh garden herbs, and pure deliciousness. The gourmet meals were enough to satisfy us until dinner, too! Bring your appetite, for sure. Above all, the hospitality and attention to detail is just astounding. The ceramic coffee mugs are imprinted with the name and an image of the inn, the bathrooms are stocked with makeup removing wipes, miniature waters are placed in each room(and available at request), and personalized notes made us feel so welcome. The house is absolutely stunning, the porch is the perfect spot to enjoy a mug of coffee pre-breakfast, and the sitting areas feature comfortable couches. I would definitely recommend the Julia Wilkins room, too, as it’s spacious, calming, and beautiful. An incredible experience, all around, and a perfect place for a romantic getaway. It’s just blocks from the beach, too, so make sure to catch the sunset during your stay. Thank you, Bruce and Carol!

Bruce and Carol(host and hostess) were extremely friendly and accommodating. They had beach chairs and umbrellas for my girlfriend and I to borrow for the day, which was an added bonus. All three mornings, the breakfasts were amazing. In the evenings, Carol had set up wine, cheese, and crackers for all of the guests. My girlfriend and I stayed in the Alexander Cassatt room, which was the least expensive in the house. The bathroom was kind of cramped but other than that, it was fine. The house itself is located in a good neighborhood, and there is plenty of on-street parking out front. The covered front porch has plenty of seating, so there are always enough separate places to sit even if you have to share the front space with other guests. It takes 5 – 10 minutes to walk to the beach or to the main drag(the Shanty, Kelly’s Gingernut Pub, etc), and 15 – 20 minutes to walk to Aqua. I’d definitely recommend this place to others booking a trip to Cape Charles.
