This place used to be good a few years ago. Today’s visit not only felt like it when sitting down to wait for the food, but tasted like it as well: This is the same cheap«New York Style» Chinese food that you’d find in a strip mall next to a dirty laundromat… the only difference being they charge you more because they have a nice décor; new chairs and tables, tiles, decorations and a wine list with a «bar». Not sure what the meat was, let alone what the filler was, in the General Tso’s chicken. The veggies taste like they’re boiled in Cape Coral’s ground water. The server was attentive but couldn’t crack a smile. I don’t want to know how many packets of the duck sauce with the panda on it they had to tear open and squeeze into the bowl but the sauce was pretty good.

husband and I have gotten takeout from here a few times but have never dined in. cute place, nice size and no wait due to season winding down. quick and attentive service people and drinks and fried noodles were refreshed quickly. I had the sesame tofu with broccoli and rice, husband had general tso’s chicken combo. food was very hot and tasty– much better than other Chinese places locally. fyi chen’s offers a loyalty stamp card. we will be back again!

Chen China Bistro, SW Pine Island, Cape Coral, FL., Here is my 2 cents on the food and some chit chat. I found myself here today unexpectedly. I had what I think was Sing Mai. 8 bucks. It was slightly spicy, angel hair, tofu, egg, roast pork, and shrimp with veggies. I found it delightful. The spicy came after you had a spoonful. A good surprise. I also got some fried wonton with hot mustard and sweet sauce. This place has been here for a while. It is one of the better chinese joints around. Reasonable prices pretty good chow(alas not as good as San Francisco, CA) They also have a deal where you buy 10 meals you get 1 free. Ask for the card. My server was attentive and good.

This Cantonese restaurant was a disappointment to the four of us. While I prefer Schezwan, I can enjoy good Cantonese food, this did not have any. The food was mediocre at best. The quantities were not small but the flavors were missing. And my vegetable egg foo yung seemed to have chunks in it, not the way egg foo yung is usually made. We all agree that the flavor was not there. No Asians were eating there and I would expect none. We also thought that the prices were somewhat high, especially for the quality of the food. I give it two stars because I like Chinese food so much because so many other cuisines make no significant offering of vegetables.

5 of us went & all 5 dishes were not up to par. Very bland, nothing special. Very disappointing. Will have to ponder about returning again :(

The spare ribs were dry. The General Tsos chicken had very little sauce. Not a good meal.

We were excited about trying Chen’s after the great Unilocal reviews. We were really disappointed. The hot & sour soup was neither hot or sour. It was greasy and flavorless. The fried dumplings were good, no complaints. We had the sesame chicken and another combo dish and they were lack luster and the sauces tasted like they came out of the same jar. One dish wasn’t really that hot(temperature). Sorry to say we won’t be going back.

This restaurant is consistently inconsistent. Depending on the day, the food can be a meaty phenomenal dream come true. But on a day like today it was a vegetable saturated soupy slop. I would love to love this restaurant but I just can’t because I never know what I’ll end up with. When I order American Chinese food I expect something more than just a can of mixed vegetables opened on top of a few strips of beef in a lackluster sauce.

UPDATE– I still continue to go because of the food. Must reiterate again. Service is Horrible! Never smile, not attentive, seem annoyed to be working there. But, food is delicious!

Knocking a star off for abrupt, mediocre service. Although they offer a couple of subgum dishes on the menu, I asked if they had chicken subgum. It was my dad’s favorite Chinese entrée. Waiter said no. I’ve been to other Chinese restaurants where they are more willing to accommodate requests. Apparently, not here. I ordered my dad the next closest thing, chicken and vegetables. I had the Kung Pao Tofu and an egg roll. Service aside, the food here is outstanding! Fresh ingredients, tasty sauces, good quality poultry. My only complaint about the food would be that the wonton in the wonton soup is too thick and doughy. Wontons should be thinner and lighter. The wontons here are heavy, and only two wontons in a small bowl of soup! The broth, and the wonton filling, is excellent. Prices are very reasonable. Restaurant atmosphere is nice. I’ve eaten at a couple of other Chinese restaurants in the area and this one is my favorite.

We had 4 orders of Peking duck and it was disappointing. Not even regular Chinese food. Flavors missing .Waiters not understanding orders. .Hoped for something so much better. We were going for over a year and hoping it would get better and it did not. The Peking duck was the last straw. Will not be back for a long time if ever.

Went here while visiting my boyfriend’s parents and found the food a bit disappointing. Their pork fried rice did not have any veggies in it and I think I saw a total of three pieces of pork. My main dish was simple chicken and broccoli where I found the brown sauce to be too sweet.

Good food and nice people. A little more money than your typical fast Chinese restaurant, but the foods quality is much better. Hot and sour soup and dragon phoenix are two of my favorites. They also have a frequent diners club that gives $ 10 for every $ 100 spent.

Best Chinese food in Cape Coral! Never disappointed with their food or service. Nice, personable owners. If you like heat try the Hunan or Szechuan chicken.

I love this place! I’m 8 months pregnant and it’s the only full plate of food I will eat. I also have been in search of a good Orange Chicken for years and this place delivered. Great dinner specials available all the time. The atmosphere inside is very nice and top notch, I have been to other Chinese places in Cape that have been disgusting but not Chen’s.

My son loves Chinese food. We usually eat it at least twice a month. Chen’s had such good reviews we thought we’d try it. We ordered honey chicken and pepper steak combos with small wonton soup. The soup was very bland as was the fried rice. We upgraded to spring rolls for a dollar more. Sorry to say they were not very good either. We usually go to china town on Handcock Bridge Parkway. We will try somewhere else next time! Plus, it was $ 25.00 a little high for Chinese food and just two dinners.

Was so impressed the first visit I had to try it again to make sure it wasn’t just a fluke. Second tome was just as good as the first. Great food. Excellent service. Vary clean. Don’t miss out on this place if you like Chinese food!
