Good little food and ice cream spot on Sunset Beach that is dog friendly. They have a decent small menu of common items, mostly fried, and the prices are not excessive. I had the buffalo chicken cheese steak. I couldn’t believe how big it actually was. The only negative was they put so much hot sauce on it that the bread was completely soggy. Combine that with the cheese and the blue cheese they put on it which made it a little messy. I had to eat it with a fork. My wife got the BLT. A basic sandwich but the ingredients were fresh and my wife said it was delicious. She paired it with some Old Bay Utz potato chips they had available. My daughter had the pork roll and cheese on a roll and said it was good. We then went on the beach and then in the three stores they had in the area. Afterwards we went back to have some ice cream. They have some common ice cream sandwiches, ice pops and soft serve Turkey Hill vanilla and chocolate. Overall it was a good little food stop when your looking for a quick bite to eat. They also offer basic breakfast items.

Came here on our last night as recommended by a friend. we came to grab a quick bite and watch the sunset of course, and we were not disappointed. Yes, everything is fried — it’s a small shack on the beach… what do you want? I got the fish and chips, which was really good and my girlfriend got the chicken tenders which were good too. Fries were crispy and everything was well done. This is not a fine dining spot or anything special. It’s legit, burgers fries fish and chips… nothing fancy at all. Wish they served beer, but whatever the view was perfect! It gets packed so come about 45mins before sundown to get a spot! Will come back next summer!

The view is great, showing the wreck of the Atlantus. Good choice of ice cream and plenty of seating. I’m not too sure about the burgers though. $ 6.50 for a cheese burger which wasn’t too fabulous mostly the patty was its downfall, but they do offer a veggie burger one of the kids had which was much better, they also have wraps as an alternate choice.

Two stars should be ten stars. Talk about a great location… but apparently the business owner is out for money and not service/quality. I can grill a burger better. And deep fat fried food dripping. So ordered ice cream. When leaving realized that the girl over charged us and kept the change. Will I be back, yes to see the sunset, not to eat

I came here with friends for custard on a glorious summer evening. The service was very slow, but there was only one person serving all of the people wanting ice cream, so it was to be expected. He was very nice and cheerful though, despite it being the end of a long and undoubtedly busy Sunday. My only real complaint is that we stood in line for a long time beside some trash cans that smelled absolutely dreadful after a long, hot day. Moving the garbage away from the line would easily solve this problem. Ending on a positive note: we have a friend who always asks for a cup of jimmies on the side so he can get a cone and have jimmies down to the last lick. He always pays extra for this, but the man at Sunset Grill gave him the cup of jimmies for free. He offered to pay for them, but the man refused. SO sweet, and we were all extremely grateful!

The four stars dont necessarily reflect the food or it’s quality, but rather, the experience and atmosphere. I LOVE this little shack and always have a great time eating and hanging out with my family and our dog(s). I always get the fried clams when I eat here. The fish and chips are good too! I got the onion rings as a side, and while they were slightly undercooked, I enjoyed the taste of the batter and the really crispy ones were delicious!!! I got a little ice cream with rainbow sprinkles(not jimmies, ew) to end the day. Fabulous!

Hard to find a cheap meal on Cape May, but this is close. The grill is the only eatery near Sunset Beach which is the western most section of the Cape May peninsula. It’s a beautiful spot to see the sunset and they do a very cool flag-lowering ceremony every night at sunset. The food is standard beach shack fare — anything that can fall into a deep fryer or drop on a grill. Highlights include: Cheese steak(very generous portion) Fish and chips(tasty, but way too many fries and not enough fish) Spectacular shakes and smoothies. Lots of flavors and super fresh.(maybe a little pricey, but not too bad for Cape May) Perfect for kids who are tired of pizza as their only option in other Cape May restaurants. Patio is spacious once you head toward the back and get away from the crowd ordering and waiting for their food. Basically, it’s the location that counts. Definitely worth the trip for a cheap meal, a nosh or a non-alcoholic beverage overlooking the ocean at sunset.

Nice for what it is. Menu is a little pricey but getting drinks on a hot summer day looking out over the beach is nice. Sunset beach doesn’t attract a lot of kids either, so if that’s something you want(and I do!) this is the perfect spot for you.

As others have said, this grill meets the goals of beach-side noshing. I go to Cape May every year and it always includes a trip(or two) to Sunset Beach and consequently a quick bite at the Sunset Beach Grill to tide me over until I head into town for a full-on dinner. You put your order in at the window,(and I agree there are some not-so-friendly order takers and there are very friendly order takers. I’ve had both.) and wait for your name to be called. You pick it up, get your condiments on the shelf and sit outside on a covered deck overlooking the pebbly beach. The service and wait are fairly quick. But then again, I usually go for the small stuff. This year, June 2012, I had very friendly order takers, and ordered the fries and a mango Italian Ice each time I went there. I hate fries that are anemic(white, floppy and barely cooked) or overdone(burnt) so I asked for my fries to be crispy, not burnt. That is exactly how they sent them out to me. PERFECT! And I don’t know what it is about their mango Italian Ice, but it is so yummy and refreshing on a hot summer day. More thirst-quenching than an ice cream concoction. So this was my experience every time I went this spring and I came away feeling good about my visits there. If you should want something different than fries and Italian Ice, they have a fairly extensive and varied menu, multiple choices for drinks and they have the ice cream section with just about anything you could want along those lines. If you’re at Sunset Beach, swing by the grill and enjoy a nosh to replenish your energy!

Went back to Sunset Grill for lunch a month later — once again, hot tasty cheeseburgers and WOW that grilled chicken wrap was delicious! Very nice staff also. Can’t wait to go back next summer!

I gave this four stars not because it’s amazing, but the place meets its goals better than most restaurants in Cape May do. Its goal is quick and easy food to eat at outdoor tables at the beach. We enjoyed the sunset burger — a not-bad patty with an onion ring and«sunset sauce», which the order-taker revealed is ketchup, mayo and hot sauce. It all added up to a tasty comfort-food combo possibly because it was served on a very good hamburger roll. Another diner in our party enjoyed his clam strips and fries. Not sophisticated but fried well, the fries especially. Chicken tenders and fries ended up making three meals for our kids, one for the 9-year-old on site and then as leftovers for the 9– and 5-year-olds the next day. Not fancy but good eating and not really overpriced considering the location.

We visit Sunset Beach every trip to the shore. This was the 2nd time of dining at The Grille at Sunset Beach. Food is greasy goodness. My husband and I both ordered Bacon Cheeseburgers and shared a fry. The girl taking our order was very matter of fact and never cracked a smile, you would think with the tip jar right in your face while ordering she would have been a little more pleasant. For the food, after ordering we found a spot to watch the sun start to set. Food was cooked fairly quickly. Fries arrived hot and crispy and not greasy. The burgers, a little on the overcooked, dry side but the flavor was great and the lettuce, tomato and onion toppings extremely fresh, I love when the lettuce has a crunch to it! For 2 burgers, an order of fries and 2 birch beers our total was about $ 17, not bad because you can’t beat the view.

Good spot to grab a snack while at the beach. But not something to go out of your way for.

As long as you don’t expect much beyond a great view from this place, you’ll be pleased. The food is virtually a sloppy mess, but it’s not your typical garbage… it’s that garbage you get down the shore on vacation and enjoy simply becuase of where you are! Though this place has never blown my mind with taste, its never really let me down either! They have a fine amount of menu options and a staff that appears very pleasant.

why is their burger(voted best at the shore by My Fox Philly or something) so expensive? You’re still down the shore you know!
