Pretty decent food. I had the calamari taco meal. The soup that came with was a tasty vegetable soup. The beans and rice with the meal were pretty good. The calamari was fried a bit too much, which made the calamari a bit too chewy. The flavor was good, but took a bit from the thick filets they gave you. Salsa that came before the meal was more like a spicy sauce, but had good flavor. Quaint little spot with friendly service — probably hasn’t changed in the last few decades.

Fantastic service. Welcoming waitress. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Tacos and cheese enchiladas were wonderful.

This place rocks, 50+ years same location, same family owners, same recipes. As a local and I have been going here for years an LOVE the food. Yes, they do not take credit cards, bring some money. Friday is Halibut fish Tacos, Thursday is Carnitas(the best). The owner is Jack, say hello the guy has worked there since his mother ran the place 40 plus years ago. I go a lot and love it!

I just moved right around the corner so I wanted to love this place since it looks so cool and is a long standing local favorite, but the food was HORRIBLE, and at the end of the day, I don’t care how cool a place looks if the food is bad. The green chile was so salty I couldn’t finish it and the rice and carnitas was extremely bland and flavorless. Everything was just bad. I’m not a picky eater whatsoever, but this place needs renovation. Maybe it was good 50 years ago, but those days are long gone.

Charming experience … elbow to elbow with local Dana Point people … enjoyed chicken and bean burritos and Friday night special tacos(one Mahi Mahi & one Schrimp). Cashiers(Joyce) made us feel very welcome as we paid. — debit cards, cash or checks — no credit cards. Will stop back again.

Ugh — overcooked dark brown too-thick tortilla chips, salsa more like ketchup w/a little chilli powder, took forever to get edible but very blah food. I would have given it one star except the place has a certain cute charm. Seriously though — work on your food!

The food is amazing. Real, homemade, Mexican food. The staff are amazing. Our waitress had my 5 year old daughter dancing around the patio after she ate. This is one of my favorite places to eat.

Chips and salsa are great. Food is REALLY expensive. Would love to support this local establishment that has been around for years but is out of our budget now

While the waitress was nice, the price for average Mexican food was a bit high. Also beware that it is cash or debit card only. Was a bit surprised.

I was expecting much more authentic food, judging by the place and the awesome vintage sign. Oh well, much better mexican resturants in the area.

Mexican food is not my first choice. But this place is quickly changing my mind. Their tacos are un freaking believeable. I had one shrimp taco and one chicken and one wahoo. What can I say but every one was better than the next. Fresh and authentic. The rice and beans are spot on. They served us a cup of chicken tequilla soup that was so good I got weak in the knees. The wait staff are so sweet and friendly. Its a cool vibe in there. You can tell they love what they do. pThis place makes me happy Because you dont have to go to chipolte to get mexican food. BTW Mcdonalds corp owns chipolte. so that should scare anyone.

Halibut tacos on Friday’s, bet you can’t eat just one! Five bucks each but worth it. Their tostada is always awesome too

Our first time at this restaurant and I was looking forward to a delicious meal. We order pork tacos and nachos. The pork was fried and nothing special about it. The nachos were ok but the salsa mediocre. The chips were cold and tasteless. We won’t be going back. Go to El Torito, at least they have good chips and salsa and a really good Taco Tuesday. The server was condescending.

Authentic Mexican food for the whole family with home made soups and tacos, tamales with some great images of old Dana point the duke and much more. Check out the taco Tuesday special 5 for 5.

I remember this spot to be a hidden gem from my many childhood visits. Fast forward to adulthood; I unrealistically expect«hole in the wall» type of restaurants to have«hole in the wall» type of prices. Portion sizes for cost are okay, but I was really surprised to upgrade a regular $ 8 to a «wet» burrito it was an additional $ 4; for sauce & cheese? Huh? Pico de gallo is super fresh & yum but add $ 1.60 as a side order to your tab to try it. The flour tortillas were the best part of our burritos. That aside, this restaurant hasn’t changed at all as far as its«charm». Still pink inside. Still a real«locals only» spot. You can’t really expect exceptional service from a spot like this, but it’s not bad. Over all, kinda«mehhh»

Lightning quick service. Very reasonably priced. And very good authentic Mexican food. Friendly staff. And the place was kept clean and nice. Exactly what you would want out of the Mexican restaurant. My only complaint would be the layout is a little bit like a maze if you’re trying to find a bathroom are the tables outside you might get a little lost. But other than that this place is perfect. You also get a lot for your money. The portions are huge. I order the nachos and could only eat less than a half. I got the rest to go and had lunch for two more days. Definite thumbs up overall. Deafly going to go back next time I’m in that area.

Worst attempt at Mexican food… ever. Not worth even getting a beer with chips and salsa… the beer is good cause its not made by this place. Keep moving. We’ve lived in Seattle and Atlanta, both of which have better Mexican food and they’re thousands of miles away from mexico!

The flour taco is to die for. Teresa has been working here since I been coming here 27 years ago. The classic pink counter is el mexi and the 5 tacos for 5 is tasty
