Stopped by here on 8÷14÷15 and Sushi Kiyo is closed. Heard a new Japanese restaurant will move in. Will miss the seafood salad, rolls and great people. Thanks for the great food!!!

Jay and Jeniece in Capistrano Beach. I read alot of reviews and Sushi Kiyo was the one that just grabbed me the right way. Well it did not disappoint. Small quaint place with an absolute amazing ocean view for sunsets! The service was great, the food greater and whole experience was fantastic. I will return for sure. I would make a suggestion on my favorite roll but they were all amazing(me and my girl ate 5 different rolls). Finding a good sushi bar/restaurant in SoCal is not easy but if you love sushi the way I do, then you have to give this place a try!

I have to say that this was not the greatest place to eat. The tuna in the Spicy Tuna Roll was mushy and not at all firm or fresh. The avocado was room temperature on the Caterpillar Roll and California Roll. The Crunchy Roll was not real flavorful but had a nice sauce. One choice of a white wine.

First you are met by Vicky with a great smile and fantastic service. Kiyo is awesome. Tell him what you like and let him take it from there! Wow! Great stop on the gorgeous beach.

Legit Japanese sushi. And excellent service as expected from a Japanese restaurant. This is one of the best hidden gems in South OC.

Incredible food and location; seems highly underrated. Right next to sunsets on the beach, came here at 8 and had the place to ourselves on a Saturday night! Very romantic, quiet and the quality was excellent. Had the Crunchy Roll, the Eel, the Octopus sashimi and spicy tuna. All fantastic. The place isn’t huge, but definitely a hole in the wall, with a beachfront view, worthy of a try

I laugh at all the gringo reviews here about bland: Sushi Kiyo is a more traditional Japanese restaurant with no abundance of American bastarderized versions of sushi. They do have a few versions of those concoctions to satisfy you. Fish and shrimp I tasted were fine, and being Japanese I ought to know. If you’re looking for sushi with antennae and legs or outlandish abominations, then go to an Americanized restaurant. And to Jay V’s comment of unagi(fresh water eel) tasting fishy, we’ll hello it’s fish, and is imported already seasoned, cooked, and vacuum packed, thus refrigerated. Reviewers should be more contemplative and do their homework before spewing out libelous, unsubstantiated dribble. Although I give it 4 stars, I’m giving it 5 to offset the unfair reviews given Kiyo.

The best sushi in Orange County. Mr. & Mrs. Kiyo are the hosts to a personal dinner party each night. The regulars are fun to talk with and the atmosphere is intimate and friendly. I’m lucky enough to enjoy some of the off-menu specials as well as just about any kind of sushi or roll or sashimi I could dream up. I absolutely LOVE this place.

Was staying at the nearby Best Western with some friends for a girl’s weekend and we started craving some good eats. Sushi Kiyo is located in a shopping center with some other good smelling restaurants but we ultimately decided we wanted sushi. It did not disappoint. It wasn’t too busy so we sat at the sushi bar. The staff was extremely friendly and is it weird that I loved that they had green tea in a can? We ordered nearly every appetizer and about 5 different sushi rolls and everything was fresh and delicious. Great combination of flavors and ingredients. Good sushi places can be hard to come by but I really enjoyed this little gem on PCH in Dana Point!

The owner was friendly but the food wasn’t that great. I had the super California roll and thought it was going to be twice the size of the regular(since the price was 2x as much). The only difference was that it came with extra fish on top. Overpriced. Also had stemmed green veggie pot stickers… it wasn’t tasty. I wouldn’t go back if I was in the area.

Ehh, was hoping for a lot more due to the previous Unilocal reviews read. Sushi Kiyo is located on PCH next door to the resort my group and I are staying at. The place is quite small; roughly 30 people max inside and a few bench tables on patio. Luckily, we came around 8, and there was no crowd. Sushi is a bit overpriced due to the poor quality. I wanted to try Mahe, and now regret not going. Oh well. I say skip this place.

This is a great place! I was so surprised that it wasn’t very busy on a Saturday night. The ambiance is a little run down but don’t let that fool you. This place has fresh sushi! I’m a huge sashimi fan and the yellowtail melted in my mouth as well as the sea urchin. Husband ordered the spicy tuna which was delicious as well but the yellowtail roll didnt have veggies in it, just the yellowtail. That was odd but since I’m a sashimi fan, I didn’t have much to complain about it. Also, be sure to order the squid cucumber salad, so good! We loved the ocean view right on the patio, don’t think I want to sit I side… I give it a full 4 stars based on food and service.

Moved to SoCal recently and was looking for a decent local sushi place. Picked this place from Unilocal reviews and wanted to try and see it for ourselves. Ocean view was a big factor with our decision. Sushi was very average, almost tasted like supermarket sushi. We ordered some edamame and to our surprise it came to table ice cold. We ordered some nigiri and some rolls. I could tell fish was fresh but all the rolls tasted similar. No creativity on chef’s side. Would not go back. Our search for a good sushi place will continue.

Sushi was fresh, soup was hot & beer was cold. Service was fast & courteous. A bit pricey but not for sunset views. We will be back.

Sushi Kiyo has some wonderful sushi — My favorite dish is the Seafood Salad — it combines a salad with lot of fish — typically, they will put yellowtail, salmon, tuna, scallops, shrimp and octopus all tossed with a yummy dressing — great value at about $ 10. I always get this dish. The restaurant itself is no frills — they just added some outdoor seating which will be nice in the summer. I love going there and watching the sunset and having a wonderful sushi meal. They have some interesting rolls. Owned and operated by Kiyo and his wife. Right next to Sunset’s bar — you can also order from Kiyo’s while at Sunsets.
