We arrived at 3:30pm without knowing that they closed at 4pm. They were so respectful and professional that they did not even warn us that they were closing. We ordered the fried chicken, fish, cabbage and mac. It was freshly battered and fried… Kitchen is open so you can see them making the food. Fish: nothing special about it but it was good… so 4 Chicken: ditto to the fish Cabbage: 4 Mac & Cheese: 5AND I AMSOOOOPICKY on my mac… these was creamy and sooo deliciously cheesy. If I were in the area– I’d be back. And they are going to start delivering… I wish they would deliver 10 miles to Beechtree but they said only 3 miles radius… :(

Its been about a month since I tried this spot. My first time trying it I opted for the mac n chz, cabbage and fried whiting sammich. The mac n chz was surprisingly good(I am a huge mac n chz fan) but the cabbage left more to be desired. I LOVE cabbage and usually do not care if its steamed, fried, boiled, etc. but the stock the cabbage is cooked in is not good. It tastes like a seafood stock but again, its just not good. Its not salty or anything, just the flavor is bland and actually overpowers the cabbage in a bad way. Now to the fish sammich, it was a little disheartening that there were bones and that I had to keep stopping to eat in order to not choke and possibly die. I expressed this sentiment to my boyf who informed me that that happens when the fish is not cleaned well. Obviously, that tidbit did not turn me off too bad because I went right back the next day as my options for lunch are extremely limited. This time, I got the fried whiting dinner or meal that came with 2 pre-determined sides. When I opted to pick my own sides, I was charged additional for less. The day before I paid the a la carte price for 2 sides and received them in generous-sized plastic containers. However, this time, after being up-charged for wanting different sides, I was given the sides(and fish) in the three-compartment square take-out container. Honestly, I felt cheated. I am not understanding why I did not receive the sides in the same format as I did the day before when I paid the same price. Oh, I tried their fried chicken wings too. They were good plain but they forgot to put the mumbo sauce in my boyf’s bag. All in all, this place is OK and being as though, they just opened, I am sure that they will get into a nice groove and end up being a great spot for what they offer.

Loved it! We ordered platters one each with salmon cakes, fried chicken, and fried fish. The waffle was amazing! The salmon cakes had a perfect flavor! Fish and the perfect crunch! I was satisfied for the money.

I was in Capital Heights around dinner time absolutely famished and craving fried fish. Then I remembered that a friend of a friend had posted on Facebook about a new fish and chicken spot on Edgeworth Drive so I decided to check Unilocal and see what the word was. The word was mixed but since it is a minority owned spot, I decided to go ahead and give it a shot, knowing how hard we can be on our people sometimes. It’s kinda in the cut across from the post office but there are 50 – 11 signs so you really can’t miss it twice. Once I found the entrance and parked, I went in and the place was spotless. There were a few nice(for a carryout) tables and chairs with syrup and hot sauce if you wanted to eat in. I was greeted with big smiles by the two employees there, a middle aged gentleman at the counter and a younger man who was doing the frying and packing up the meals. I chatted up the gentleman at the counter and found out that he was one of three owners. I told him that I’d never been before and he immediately started on me about the desserts, which I declined because I’d rather take my fat calories in food, not dessert. I noticed that they had croaker on the menu and that is really rare as most places these days have whiting, tilapia and maybe catfish. My mom loves croaker so I called her and asked if she wanted me to bring her some. Of course, she said yes. I asked to taste the potato salad because you know everybody’s potato salad is not good and the owner said that they pre– pack all of the sides in the morning so I could not taste but he promised it would be delicious. I jokingly told him«It better be». So I ordered a croaker dinner with Mac and Cheese and Greens and a Whiting Dinner with Potato Salad and Green Beans. After I ordered, he relented and let me taste the potato salad, confident that I would love it and I did! It’s made with red potatoes and is mustardy and sweet. Kinda like Carolina Kitchen but with red potatoes. I closed my eyes and did a little happy dance and both of the guys seemed pleased that I liked it so much. I will admit that the menu could be more clear about the upcharges. When the owner went to charge my card I was taken aback at the total. He VERY nicely and politely explained that the meals come with fries and coleslaw which of course cost less than Mac and Cheese, Greens, Potato salad, etc., hence the upcharge. If you don’t want fries and coleslaw, they basically charge you the sandwich price plus a la carte prices for the sides. The menu was not clear on this at all but I think once they get into the swing of things and get a more comprehensive, organized menu, the confusion will go away. When I got to my mom’s house to eat and popped open my whiting I did another happy dance but when she opened her croaker I was sooooo jealous! It was a huge piece of perfectly fried goodness. No matter because my whiting was also delicious as was the mac and cheese which is obviously homemade. The greens were too vinegary for me and the green beans were interesting in that they had a sweet flavor that was good for the first few bites but overwhelming by the end. I’ll stick to the potato salad and mac and cheese and make my own veggies. The fish was excellent and as long as it continues to taste that good and I receive great, polite service I will be a customer. I have now had both the whiting and the croaker and it is perfectly seasoned and crispy although on my second visit my croaker was fried a little bit too hard for my taste. I think it’s because on my first visit, the younger gentleman was doing the frying and on the second visit, the owner was cooking. No worries, it’s really a matter of preference and it was still delicious… I’ll simply ask them to take it out of the fryer a minute or two early next time if the owner is manning the fryer. I came in craving fish and it was more than I ever expected. I’ll try the chicken and waffles once I get over how good the croaker tastes lol! I’m happy they are in business and I hope they do well.

First this place is black-owned and we are all about supporting the community. Secondly, the food is GOOD!!! Thirdly, the customer service was great! We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. The owner is really nice too. The fried fish was seasoned deliciously. The fries were great! The cabbage was DELICIOUS! They had a little spice in them and that made them even better. The sweet potato pie was DY-NOMITE! My dude had the lemon pepper wingettes and he said they were good. I took a peek at them and the meat was falling off the bone. I wanted to try their shrimp and grits but they had just sold the last one, but that’s okay bc I’ll definitely be back. I’m not sure what the two young ladies that gave the bad reviews were really complaining for. Popeyes and KFC are most certainly NOT better than this place. If you like MSG and high fructose corn syrup than its obvious your taste buds have been manipulated. I would much rather give my money to our people in the community than some Chinese carry out that would rather fool me and give me something that I didn’t order(aka cat/dog instead of chicken) or wouldn’t live in our area but sell junk to us. They don’t use any pork so we don’t have to worry about anything being cooked with bacon or lard grease. Great food, great service, very CLEAN! Let’s keep this brother in business guys!

When we arrived there were 5 people ahead of us & only 1 person working!!! But I will tell you made us stay his apologies & appreciation for us waiting, that meant a lot & he said his partner would be back. So I ordered Fish Dinner, Chicken Wing Dinner & Chicken and Waffle, side of fried cabbage. Everything was delicious except personally I didn’t like the cabbage! But the waffle has a nice sweet vanilla flavor to it, whiting fish was breaded & fried to order, the wings were the jumbo ones they were good but I prefer the smaller ones, more tender! The Mac & Cheese looked good will try next time & the breakfast menu really looked good, they have grits! Will definitely be back again!

We were greeted from the moment we opened the door. The 2 gentlemen acknowledged my wife and I. We were showed the menu which is small and simple. We placed our orders and they were cooked right on the spot and served hot. The place is clean and a Lil in the cut. The GPS found it with no problems. They are located across from the capital heights main post office and down from the Ritchie Station Wawa. The fish(croaker) was crispy and fresh and very flavorful. The half and half(lemonade/tea) was on point and not too sweet. They have side dishes but we passed due to not being super hungry. We will definitely be going back. Good Brothers over there doing what they do.

Worst place in town with customer service… Don’t change your sides… And don’t let the big muscle-elder guy get in your convo with the staff. Very arrogant and cocky!!! No stars at all. After driving in circles in the dark to find the place, I’ve never had the worst service in my life… Never got my food and I never got a chance to support a black owned business… I wonder why our establishments don’t last long. Nickel and dime you and don’t tell you why your bill is almost $ 10 higher until you want to swipe my card.

After seeing many signs during my route to work, I decided to give this place a try. I left work at 6:58 pm and called them to place an order, but no answer. Less than a minute later, they called back and informed me that they close at 7pm, but they would be happy to take my order. I was thrilled but explained that I was at least 40 minutes away, as I work downtown. No worries! After further explaining that I wasn’t familiar with the menu, he walked through the entire menu, took my order, and even gave me directions! When I arrived, he had my order ready with the exception of the fried fish(he said he wanted to drop them when I got there so they could be hot and crispy), and it didn’t take long at all. I order the fish and wings platter, Mac-n-cheese, fried cabbage, and peach cobbler(I hadn’t eaten all day lol). The service alone was impeccable, and the food was delicious! I am very picky about my Mac-n-cheese, and theirs was Delish! Fyi, I think they make it with eggs. Fried cabbage was on point! The fish is Whiting fish, and also delish! Fried chicken was good too! And the Peach Cobbler? Woo wee!!!
