This is a cool cultural site – but everything’s relative, right? :-) There’s not a whole lot to see, especially off-season, but it’s a quick, fun trip. The church is open mid-November through the end of April. When it’s closed, there’s not a whole lot to do, but walk around it. Check out the cool fishy weathervane, and look for all the mini anole lizards scurrying all over the place. The graveyard is always open, though. Read the little historical overview in front of the white building next to the church to know whose graves you’ll be visiting: some of the earliest settlers of modern-day Florida and the earliest homesteaders of Captiva island. This is not an all-day stop on the Sanibel/Captiva tour. Spend 15 to 25 minutes here on your way to watch the sunset at the Muddy Duck! It’s a cute little historical side trip on your beachy vacation!
