I really liked everything in the store– the dresses. Too bad I had my 20 month with me and he did not let me shop. We ended up walking out

TL;DR: Definitely worth hitting up if you are into thrift stores. Miser’s Mercantile is a consignment shop in Carbondale, specializing in high-end clothing. Make sure to look downstairs if you are in need of housewares or vintage kitsch. FYI: There is one particular woman behind the counter who is always a dismissive, mirthless hag who exudes derision and contempt for customers. Don’t take it personally. In the olden days she would have been spending her golden years in some lonely cottage on the outskirts of the village frightening children. Today she has to settle for retail.

I’ve been shopping at Misers Mercantile since my son was an infant and recently returned for a visit and am happy to report that it hasn’t changed much at all over the years and that is a good thing! Some things should never change! Some of the best finds ever. I still serve cheese and crackers on a pig cutting board I got there when he was 3 and he’s now 24.

Not a very big shop but lots of variety. Organized and well staffed– there seemed to be several different spots where you could ask questions if you needed to. Found a few little treasures here and felt like a got them for a song.
