Delicious Carlsbad eggs Benedict with a perfect egg, and nice ripe avocado! Service was great, friendly and fast! Also had at our table: stuffed French toast(perfect), big breakfast, & m&m pancakes. We walked to this place from our hotel and the smell of fresh baked pastries hits you when you walk in the door. We took some to go, back to our hotel for later. They even have gluten free options. Great place, highly recommend!

I have been coming to Carlsbad for several years and this remains my favorite place to eat. Wonderful casual dining with great breakfasts and lunches. Perfect location located right around the corner from where I stay. Great employees too. Wonderful pastries too.

I am usually not too critical but thinking back on my experience, we will not be returning due to several reasons including them forgetting about half of our food and our drinks, when we finally got them the food was cold, my latte was not frothy and scolding hot for around 35 minutes then the taste was not good. The breakfast sausage sandwich was just alright taste wise and on the greasy side. Not impressed whatsoever considering it was still early enough for them to not be busy.

This place is a favorite for Saturday morning coffee, although it can get a little loud, as a result of being busy. Their croissant is like no other, truly it tastes like it was made from tears of joy, shed from a cherub. It is not only the best croissant I have ever had, it is the best baked good I have ever tasted. It is worth the trip if only to try it.

I’m honestly not a big Unilocal reviewer ~ but we enjoyed this place so much I just HAD to give them a little love. Café Elysa is absolutely adorable! A cute beach shack type of place with a truly awesome staff and great food… at good prices to boot. Sean helped us out & was happy to answer all of our questions with patience & a friendly vibe. We just moved down here from Santa Monica a couple months ago and we’re so happy we found this little gem. We sat on the patio with our dog on a Sunday morning before running errands & already determined we will definitely be back! P. S. …huge patio — by the way. Great for groups! I always prefer sitting outdoors whenever I can :)

«Best omelette I’ve ever had.» These words were spoken by my husband as we dined with our 1 year old at this casual café just a few steps from the beach. That is a pretty serious statement, and he meant it. I’m not sure I need to say more. When I inquired as to what exactly made it so — he said the way the elements were layered… coupled with the freshness and overall taste made it out of this world. I had California Eggs Benedict. YUM. My only gripe was that the knife I had couldn’t cut the muffins so I looked a bit ravenous trying to eat it. Out 1 year old had more poise with his avocado. Great place. We popped I’m while camping down the road 10 mins or so by car. And bonus, dog-friendly.

This place is great not only do I love their coconut stuffed French toast and their Carlsbad Benedict, they have a wonderful staff. Last time I was in, I forgot my purse and didn’t realize it for more than an hour. When I called, they were holding it for me, waiting for me to come and get it. Not only good food but honesty too. Can’t beat it.

The perfect morning spot to go for early riser looking for fresh pastry and coffee. Went here almost every morning while in town. The girls(baristas?) are very nice and accommodating. Not coffee snobs, but very knowledgeable. Tried 2 other coffee spots while in town and the customer service was not even close! There was an older men’s group drinking coffee there every morning which says a lot. Going out of my way to go back!

Great little gem. Great pastries and coffee. I tried the stuffed French toast with coconut custard. Wow. It was delicious. Friendly service. Great place for a tasty breakfast with friends, with a warm fire pit. I love the atmosphere.

Take away the weather and the location and I would still make this a regular breakfast hangout. The omelettes are almost crêpe like with an excellent balance of stuffing to eggs. The firepits are a cool idea and people seem to be open to sharing them. The best part though is the take no crap waitress who is funny and attentive. Wish I had this place in my city of sacramento.

This is a great place for breakfast and brunch! We stayed across the street and got custom made coffee everyday we were here in Cali! The pastries are delicious and made in house so you can smell them down the street! Skip Starbucks and support local businesses!

Café Elysa is in a great location and has fantastic food! A group of us were staying in Carlsbad for a girls weekend getaway this past weekend. I found Café Elysa on Unilocal and after reading the reviews we decided to give it a try. All of us have different tastes, but we were each pleased with what we ordered. We wanted to go back every morning, but we had already purchased food to make the rest of the mornings. I plan on taking my family next time we are in Carlsbad. I highly recommend!

Café Elysa can’t have a better location! Its located literally a few steps from Carlsbad beach. This little join is my regular stop now for breakfast and lunch every time I visit Carlsbad. it’s also worth mentioning that they serve breakfast items all day. if you are like me, who loves eating eggs any time of the day, this is the place. Of course there are pancakes and French toast on the menu as well :) Most of the seating is outdoors and it’s shaded. There is a fireplace in the patio as well but I never seen it on. All of the staff have always been polite and friendly. surprisingly for a small café they got quite a variety of desserts starting from basic ones to more fancy. On my last visit, I tried an almond paste pastry. it was incredibly delicious. I definitely recommend to try it!

Food/Drink — Food choices were great! From pastries to eggs, omelets, and sandwiches. I had the Carlsbad Benedict and it was a huge portion! They have lots of freshly made coffee drinks. The only downside is they do not have fountain soda. So if you want a soda, your choice is canned. Service — Service was excellent from the person at the register who takes your order to the person who brings out your food! Atmosphere — Super chill vibe since it is a beach town. Parking is a pain, but who cares bc the walk to the place is beautiful. Overall — Excellent place and would go back!

i have no Idea why this place has a semi low rating. This place is great! I had their breakfast sandwich with bacon and eggs. YUMMAZING. the croissant was a pile of golden flakes :). Also had their waffles with starberry it was mediocre, can’t complain, I’ve had better. The Coffee & Teas, has that cute little place taste hehe. Grab a Joe or Tea and see for yourself.

Loved the atmosphere here! On the patio there are a lot of tables, most of them on the bigger side, plus two fire pits that seem to be running often and have lots of chairs around them! If you’re looking for a place to sit inside there isn’t a ton of space, so pick a warm day. I had a latte which was very reasonably priced, I believe about $ 3.50 for a 16oz, and it was nice and strong but nothing out of the ordinary. My friend ordered a turkey sandwich with fruit which she said was delicious. I mainly enjoyed it because it’s so close to the beach so we were able to get our coffees and walk out to the ocean! Definitely recommend if you’re out exploring Carlsbad.

I liked this place. It’s a very basic coffee shop that serves breakfast. You order yourself at the counter. The food was fresh and filling– the portions are big. My chai tea latte was good but on the sweeter side. And I got the elysa omelette, I liked it. Nothing too spectacular but it was fresh and the tomatoes were crisp. They have a cute little fire pit in the front. Sit by it. It’s cozy and takes all the credit for the plastic lawn chairs they use on their porch. Remember it’s a café literally a block from the beach so I guess that’s okay. It’s tucked away on the street because of all the plants they have. But it’s cute and if your just looking for a simple place to meet a friend or have breakfast alone, it’s lovely.

Such a great place for lunch! Their sandwich section is unparalleled and come with fries! Love it but the service is slower than average, though they always have an easy going attitude behind the register. Huge selection of syrups for great coffee concoctions or Italian sodas!

Great seaside location in Carlsbad, with patio, fire pits, and only a block from the ocean. They have a slight breakfast & lunch menu, and a display case full of desserts. But, the coffee,…it’s rarely great. The drip is usually served less than hot, and espresso is usually pulled too long making it watery and bitter.

This is from now on going to be my new favorite spot! At least on the coast(mama kats still always has my heart as my #1). Anyway! I came here on a Saturday Cuz I’ve seen all these groupons and heard so many people talk about it that I had to stop by. It’s literally on coast hwy on the intersection of carlsbad village and coast hwy, right I mean RIGHT next to cessys taco shop. This place has a huge open patio in front and inside you walk into what seems like a normal bakery. You walk in, order your food off the chalk menu behind the cash wrap and they give you a number, you sit down and they bring you your food that you ordered. I love it! So casual and laid back and the food portions are huge with reasonable prices! I ordered the egg special I believe, with two eggs, sausage or bacon and hash browns for $ 6.95 with a medium french roast coffee. All of that came out to around $ 9 which isn’t bad and I sat myself on the patio. It was so relaxing! And the carlsbad locals are SO friendly! I literally had a regular come clean my table for me as there’s no wait service I found out and ugh it just made my experience that much sweeter! The eggs were perfect as the sausage, and the coffee was better than I expected! My favorite part was if you’re a hash brown lover you can’t go wrong because they literally fill HALFOFYOURPLATE with the hash browns! Whoa and you know what? They’re so good– I killed the plate. It was such a nice vibe to come & eat while people watching the cars & the people on the coast. I’ll have to save room next time or be back to try one of their delicious pastries– they have everything from fruit tarts, to bagels to Danishes. YUM.
