We used to love coming here, but hadn’t been in awhile. My husband and I went for a rare day date, and were really disappointed with the food quality and service. Our $ 11 calamari order was so skimpy, more dipping sauce than actual calamari. We shared the BLT… it was OK. The chive aioli really overpowered all the other flavored and the side salad was drenched in bottle balsamic. Service was spotty.

Came here for my great aunt’s 99th Birthday! I love the views from this place, and how spacious the eating area is. The service is great, and the price is really good for bottomless mimosas. I’d say the only thing I didn’t really care for was the food. Buffet style, most things were kinda bland. But for the price they charge i guess it’s not a terrible deal. I would say this place is good for larger family gatherings in the area, especially when you want the food to be pretty open to all types of people(buffet means vegetarians, etc are good to pick what they want and avoid the rest). Stay Cheerful ;)

Came here for lunch with friends. I was surprised and the good quality of food and wonderful service. There is a beautiful vista view of the golf coarse and usually the food does not have to be good if the view is… not the case. Interesting combinations and nice open atmosphere.

I went to brunch at Canyons in the last day of our family trip to San Diego. I normally wouldn’t go to a placed with such mixed reviews, however, this place was really close to my location and I heard the view was really nice. Anyway, we showed up around 11:30 for brunch on Sunday. We sat outside in the far corner table. The view was nice, however, the food wasn’t that great. Everything was dry and tasteless. One highlight was the dessert, which my wife enjoyed and I liked the made to order omelets. But now for the big issue, No one, and I mean no one ever came to our table to get drink orders or check on us not even once. I got drinks myself from a guy who was cleaning a table near us. After we finished I went to complain, I spoke to the girl in the front. I told her that no one ever came to our table and she quickly went to ask the waitress if this was true. The waitress seemed confused like she had never seen us. They tried to apologize, and handed me the bill. And, I was about to pay, but I just never been to a place that gave zero service especially one so expensive, I felt that I needed to speak to a manager about it. I was more puzzled by the situation than mad. So, I calmly asked to speak to the manager. So, she went to go look for him, she came back and told me. «His in a meeting» I told her that was fine that I would wait. Minutes later another guy came, he seemed like a waiter or assistant manager perhaps. He walked up to me and told me, «I heard what happen, we are really sorry. This one is on us». So the food ended up being free, however, that is not really what I was looking for. I would of much rather of paid for my food and gotten great service and food. Please go elsewhere, the view isn’t worth it. And from other reviews I see I’m not the only person this has happened to. Bottom line worst service of any restaurant in my whole life. no exaggeration whatsoever.

I would give it a minus rating if I could. I received a phone call from the restaurant four hours prior to our reservation canceling it. I was told they had a wedding at 5 o’clock. Really, they didn’t know they had a wedding booked until last minute? I booked the reservation three days prior to getting the call. Obviously they do not cater to local people.

When this restaurant opened it was off the chart fantastic and the food was a 10. I have been here a couple of times since and am so sorry the quality isn’t the same. The location and view are fantastic as is the inside of the restaurant very roomy. I was here last night for an event and decided to take food home for my husband. I asked about the fish tacos of the day and got a whole bunch of different answers from the same three guys. They said they had the swordfish then they said they were out how about the fried fish taco and told them my husband doesn’t do fried food I would just go over to Pelly’s Fish Market then all of a sudden they had the swordfish. I told them I don’t want them to scrip and they said that they had an order and a half of swordfish. I have no idea what was going on but since I didn’t really want to make another trip I said fine. My husband said the tacos were okay but the salad was very wilted and was like a day old UN-refrigerated and he said it taste terrible and the dressing as well. I was disappointed that I didn’t just go over to Pelly’s where we don’t incur these kinds of problems. I really hope the Canyons brings back the wonderful food and service they started with when they first opened. This was our first choice to bring out of town guest but not anymore.

I came here for breakfast on a whim, and wow was the service on point! Our waitress had our classes refilled without any questions, and our food arrived hot and delicious. Despite running out of bagels(a main ingredient for the dish I had wanted), she was quick to suggest alternatives. The dining room is spacious and overall a really pleasant experience. It’s not often that service and quality of food are so on point, but on this occasion it was. I can’t wait to come back for other meals! And the caddies greeting us as we walked in was definitely a plus-put us in a great mood for a place that takes a bit of driving to find, but totally worth it!

Thanks to our server Sean who helped make our retirement get together special. The food and drinks were good, the round table easily fit all 9 of us and there was a great view of the ocean. Sean even volunteered to take a picture of all of us over by a fireplace.

1 star for the view, negative 6 stars for the literally nonexistent service. We were seated by our server Brett, who offered to fetch our drinks & disappeared soon after that. As we sat for 40 minutes eating our food & enjoying the view(please note that I said just eating, not enjoying the bland basic food), we watched as the tables around us were at least receiving minimal service. Finally a gentleman came to grab our plates, I was able to ask for a glass of water, mind you my glass of orange juice had been empty since 20 minutes into us sitting down. Eventually I asked the server for the table next to us if our table was a part of no service land or if our server had clocked out for the day. Brett suddenly appeared with our check & a half assed apology accompanied by a 2 for 1 coupon for next time, that expired in December 2015. Thanks for your extravagant efforts in righting your wrong Brett however, we won’t need your expired coupon because we will not be coming back. Usually when I receive minimal service I at least leave a pity tip, my only tip for Brett is WAKEUPMAN; it’s noon & you completely forgot about a table, get it together.

Bottom Line: Nice views, plenty of parking, ok food but the rest is underwhelming. Despite not being a big fan of this place because of poor service I keep finding myself here for work functions or at the request of friends. I’ve sat at the bar, in the main dining room, on the patio, in the back part of the restaurant that is partitioned off and in the Roston Room. Regardless of where I sit, service ranges from awful to average. But in the spirit of fairness, lets talk about what I do like about Canyons: — It is centrally located in Carlsbad so no matter where you live or work, its conveniently right in the middle of town. — The food is good and reasonably priced. The menu isn’t fancy schmancy but is comforting which I appreciate. — The restaurant interior is attractive and they have various places to sit as implied above. I also like that the tables are not crammed together. — Even more attractive is the view. The view from the patio is terrific but it can be windy out there so plan accordingly. — Something that is nice about Canyons is the options for private dining. The Roston Room is a great space for a small gatherings.(I’d say 30 or less people.) Canyons offers various options for catering. — The lobby and bathrooms are also comfortable and nice. — There is a big parking lot for the golf course, restaurant and lounge so there is ample parking but you may have to walk from the back during great golfing weather. That is ok with me though. I enjoy the walk and great weather!

This is a wonderful place with a fantastic view and great food. It is part of The Crossings public golf course. The price is reasonable for the quality of the food. Every time I am in the area I stop in for breakfast or lunch.

When your company wants to take you to a nice restaurant and the default Karl Strauss is closed down, you go to another nice place. Canyons is said place for us. I work about 10 minutes from here and I do say, they have the best sweet potato fries i’ve ever had. During lunch they have salads, entrees, and typical lunch things like soup/salad combos, but everything’s country club prices. I think the sandwich was about $ 13. I would expect something big for that but it wasn’t huge, it was just mediocre sized. The location is great, they’re on the canyon edge, looking over the golf course and you CAN see the ocean from the clubhouse. It’s quite a beautiful venue and to be honest, if I were to renew my vows, I’d think about having a reception here. The staff wasn’t exactly the most attentive though, they had to be flagged down for any issues and half our table(of 8 people) didn’t get the food until late and two of us got it really late(10 minutes after the first plate was served). Mediocre food, high price, but beautiful view for a nice lunch. This place is definitely A-ok.

This is my favorite place to go for a late afternoon beer or even an early dinner. They also serve a great breakfast and lunch. Officially they don’t do dinner, but they are open till the golf course closes and they serve hearty appetizers while you watch the sunset.

Great location and view. The staff is friendly and the seating is spacious. You have plenty of room to back your chair out and to move about. It’s quiet and peacefull. I hate restaurants that pack you in. We’re been here for Sunday brunch and for lunch. Brunch is good with fresh food. Nothing left out long to get stale. It’s a great place to eat. Much better than the chain restaurants at the outlet mall.

Best Sunday Brunch in North County! $ 24.99 for bottomless mimosas/champagne, a prime rib carving station, yummy salmon, lox, a huge omelette station and so much more. Perfect for a special occasion and/or larger parties. Make sure you make reservations because the dining room does fill up. Enjoy a leisurely stroll around the property after the brunch, you’re going to need it after all that food ;-)

I’m a member of the golf club here for years and for some reason just never take the time to stop after and eat in the Canyons. This past Friday I had some friends come down from OC and we played AND ate. Service and staff were great. We had Lucy and Joaquin serving us and they did a great job, very responsive and proactive. We were happy with them. I had the turkey club with the sweet potato fries. Both were perfect. My wife and I are on a hunt for the best sweet potato fries in north county and these are now in the running the dip for them was really good. Turkey club was great, can’t pick on it, very solid. My friends had the burger and loved it, it looked good. I’ll be back :)

This restaurant has two things going for it: location and view. It’s situated in a golf club. The restaurant has views of the golf course and a partial view of the ocean. What was entirely lacking was any semblance of tasty food. I ordered their Cobb Salad. What came out was a plate of lettuce with one hardboiled egg and one cherry tomato — both quartered on top. There was also ¼ sliced avocado and about a tablespoon if crumbled bacon. The blue cheese dressing was watery/mayonnaise and flavorless. The entire salad was soaked with that flavorless goo. I asked for vinegar on the side, in hopes of rinsing the gunned up lettuce with at least a little tang. Our waiter brought out their«red wine vinaigrette» instead. It was cloyingly sweet. No rolls or crackers if any kind came with the salad. My daughter’s chicken tenders were nothing more than deep fried heavily breaded lumps. Our garlic fries were greasy, lukewarm and served with a dish of terribly sweet«tomato jam». I ordered a Bloody Mary. It was like drinking a glass of ketchup Koolaid. I couldn’t get even half of it down. Tips: 1) Since the only good thing about this place is the view — no point in coming in for dinners or after dark. 2) This could be a pretty location for a daytime wedding reception but only if they permit you to hire an outside caterer to provide your food. Doubtful. Otherwise, be certain to taste test every single item your party will be served. Take their word for nothing.

Have enjoyed a number of Sunday Brunches here which feature complimentary Champagne and Mimosa’s. They have an omelet bar and prime rib along with an assortment of traditional brunch items. As far as bang for your buck goes this is a great value considering all the high quality food and drinks. The location is set atop the Crossings Golf Course with views of the course, ocean and canyons. Yay, I’m a fan !

I’ve been for lunch a few times, and the view is spectacular! I live close by, so it’s a nice place to go to for lunch, or for a sunset cocktail! I came for brunch once with girl friends, and it was ooookay. The restaurant itself(indoor seating) isn’t super extravagant, but the outside patio is much better. I wouldn’t go for brunch again, mostly just lunch! The menu is AMAZING. So many delicious things to order. Very happy and surprised with the options. The food makes up for the drab décor inside, seriously sit on the patio! The view is wonderful!
