Every year my wife and I make it down from LA to S.D. for Comic Con and we always hit up Sushi Fix. For a a few years straight, we couldn’t find an LA sushi joint that matched Sushi Fix as far as taste, quality, and price. It was a highlight of our trips and became tradition. This year we dropped in. The name had changed but we didn’t really care; we wanted Sushi Fix soooooooooo badly. We ate our food and it wasn’t as good but not bad. Overall the food was fine, not great. Then I got SICK! For 4 days I could barely eat anything and would gag at the sight of food. To this day, I still want to vomit every time I see a sushi restaurant. If someone knows the story of how they went from my favorite little sushi spot to «Rock N Roll» sushi, please let me know and where I may find the original Sushi Fix chefs and owners.

We were looking for a place close to where I live in Carlsbad, and this place popped up on Urbanspoon. I enjoy sushi, and have had my share of disappointments in North County, so we tried this place. Very quaint setting, tucked away in a not so frequented strip mall type area. They had the Padres game on in the background(giving it to the Dodgers)… There are three things we get at every sushi place we visit: miso soup($ 1.99 a cup), gyoza and a spicy tuna roll. We got other stuff here too, but those three are the corner stone of all orders. We got the seaweed salad and the waitress told us that they didn’t have enough for a full order, so they gave us a half order for free! Very nice of her! Another plus is you can order half rolls if you’re not too hungry, and they have a lunch special menu. Overall, solid experience, will be going back there. Great service, good value for the food /price.

My most recent experience at Rock n’ Roll Sushi(formerly known as Sushi Fix) was not the best experience I’ve had. I have been going to this place for about 2 years, at least once a month. The first few months it was once a week. Since, this place has been bought out by Rock n Roll Sushi their rolls are significantly smaller in size. What made this place stand out before was their decent prices and their portion size. With that gone there isn’t anything take makes them standout from the many sushi places in the area. I think this place should worry about how they treat their current customers more than one particular employee’s feelings of a situation that happened in the past with another, unrelated, customer.

More like 2.5 stars. Came here w/Maria C. as a last minute dinner option. It’s close to my house in the old Vons shopping center on the corner of La Costa & El Camino. Somewhat of a bad location in my opinion since the Albertson’s shopping center across the street is much busier. It’s a smaller restaurant and was pretty empty considering we came here about an hour before they closed. Maria C had a BOGO, and since we’re not big sushi eaters we ended up getting 2 specialty rolls: I ordered the tiger roll and she got the monkey roll. Monkey roll was fried in tempura and had a little bit of a kick to it which I enjoy. The Tiger Roll wasn’t as spicy and the crab(I believe) was covered in tempura) so it had a little crunch. I came away enjoying the Monkey Roll a little more, primarily because of the tempura and the hint of spiciness. Downfall though was the two rolls took some time to be prepared, about average of when we’ve gone to other sushi restaurants that have been pretty busy. Employees were nice though and I’d come back again since it’s close to my house.

It is now called Rock ‘N Roll Sushi and is located in a desolate shopping center in La Costa/Carlsbad area where it used to occupy a Vons. Came here spur of the moment an hour before closing. I had a BOGO and it was on the way home. Christopher C. decided to meet me here. Small place(occupancy about 24), no sushi bar, and definitely caters to the take out crowds. Ordered 2 rolls: –Monkey Roll(Krab, spicy tuna and avo, tempura fried — $ 9.99) — It was OK. The spicy tuna really left a burn on my tongue. Typically I don’t get this type of reaction to spicy tuna, but whoa! I didn’t even attempt to eat more than 3! I like my tempura crunchy, and wasn’t as crunchy as I had hoped it would have been. –Tiger Roll(Krab, shrimp tempura inside with cooked shrimp and avo, spicy sauce and green onion — $ 10.99): OK, I think I preferred this roll vs. the Monkey. Wasn’t spicy and it was a relief to eat something that didn’t burn off my taste buds! Drink — 1.99 The employees were friendly and establishment was clean. Although it wasn’t busy, we found that our 2 rolls took a bit long to prepare. Knocked off several stars only because there is yet to try others. Please refer to Christopher C.‘s and Andy H.‘s reviews for their takes.

Went here last Friday with a couple of friends to get take out. Ordered all of the rolls that had spicy tuna, 9 or 10 I think, and enjoyed them all. The condiment bar with all of the different sauces was nice as well. Probably won’t come here too often since I have other sushi places closer to me, but the food was good and wasn’t overpriced.

Slow service. Took about an hour to get my food. Sushi was average at best. There is no sushi bar, just tables. Mostly serves as a takeout place. Won’t come back. I wonder why some people rave about this place.

The hubby and I tried this place only because we purchased a $ 25.00 gift certificate. If you don’t know about it, you wouldn’t be able to just drive by and see it. It’s hidden, for sure. At the moment I walked in I was caressed with the sounds of Bob Marley which was pretty awesome for me, personally, but I guess if you are into the whole sushi experience, you would probably find it a bit confusing, and might think you walked into a surf shop. It would be a fitting description to say it was a sushi joint with a surfers touch. Staff were super cool and friendly, and were happy to make suggestions on what rolls to get. We had a quota of 50 bucks(because of our gift certificate), so we ordered 3 rolls(1 to go), some edamame, shared a large Kirin and a large hot sake. Sushi was good. Not great, but good. I think most of their business was take out, as a few people came and went with orders and we were the only ones dining in. We also had dessert and I have to say, the Green tea ice cream is a MUST. Employee(owner, perhaps?) said their Red Bean ice cream was good too, and I wouldn’t doubt it. I’d come back here again with a coupon. Couldn’t beat that deal. Overall, I would say not a first date sushi place, unless your date is super laid back and casual. Cool, very chill atmosphere.

Sushi Fix. the only sushi place I go to on a regular basis. I’ve been eating sushi for years, and I’ve deduced that there are three main factors that go into making sushi awesome. 1) Freshness of fish 2) Amount of fish 3) Creativity of rolls Sushi Fix(which I am told is now Rock and Roll Sushi) scores major points in all areas. True they are not the fanciest of restaurants, and they don’t try to fluff up their image by putting lots of little fake seaweeds and carrots cut into flowers next to their sushi, but this is part of their charm. They are what they say they are — the sushi without the BS, simple and delicious. I would say it’s not only the best place to take out sushi in the San Diego area(and really, the restaurant is nice too… it’s not a bad idea to sit in if you have the time). but it’s also the friendliest and come on, what other sushi place offers not just soy sauce, but a whole array of sauces for you to pour yourself! I read some of the reviews below and I have to say, I think some of these reviewers are too focused on the image and not enough on the substance. If a flashy fancy restaurant with three day old fish is what you prefer, then please, leave Sushi Fix to people who can appreciate the awesomeness it offers.

plus side, I come here for the lunch special(teriyaki chicken or steak, miso soup or salad, sushi, drink $ 9.99) — service is pretty much lacking. No greeting at the cash register, nothing said when they pick up your plate, forget to bring you dessert at the end(and the ice cream was«frozen solid, so you’ll have to take it to go»). They do sell their great 911 sauce, though a bit pricy at $ 3.50 for a small bottle, and you actually have to pump it out of the dispenser on the front counter and fill the bottle yourself. As I said, service is pretty sucky. Just like it was at their Little Italy location which they sold to Burger Lounge(which is 10x better, see my review). Interestingly, too, they guy talked me out of the steak option for the lunch saying it was a fatty cut of meat. While I appreciated the advice, I guess, you’d think they’d just take it off the menu if it’s no good. Probably be a long time before I come back(mainly just for the 911 sauce at this point).

If you are dying and too intoxicated to go anywhere else, maybe. Spicy tuna and deep fried rolls rule this menu, rice is tasteless and everything is heavily sauced. You can probably do better across the street at Albertson’s. One star because they deliver(just in case you are wasted), otherwise it would be zero.

Gross! I still ate it, but I will not go back! Bland and just plain sad looking sushi. It’s not even THAT cheap so you might as well go to a regular sushi restaurant.

I respect that they’re trying to do something different(feels almost like a college pizza joint) with sushi. But, the execution ain’t there. Big screens, lots of interesting sauces(spicy sauce is great) but the sushi is just okay, nothing to really remember and nothing to go out of your way for. The clincher is the high price — better off going up to sushi n joy in oceanside.

A nice local sushi joint and yes it is not a very pretty looking place but what place or person is. If you want decent sushi with some different sauces like hot sauce, super hot i think it was called, wasabi, and my favorite the teriyaki tasting one. when we went, they had a leaky cup problem so if you feel a wetness, its probably your cup. The Crazy Albacore was good and I really don’t remember the other names but it was all good. Try it out.

Sadly, I love sushi but I just can’t get into this place. I like the concept, but one experience can really kill it for anyone. This took place about 2 years ago. S and I walked in 20 minutes to closing. I made eye contact with the gal behind the register. I watched her look up to the clock, sigh, and said to me «I’m sorry. We’re closing in 20 minutes. You’ll have to get your items to go.» She said it in her best«I want to get out of here» voice. Short story, we walked out. We felt like we didn’t need to come back. Maybe I’ll go back because what are the chances of her still working there? Two stars for hope. LOL

For a place where the American owners are making Japanese food… this place is delicious. You really get your moneys worth of food here. They have got a great and healthy menu and such delicious sashimi as well. Check your local fliers in the mail for coupons because they have awesome deals and such.

I like this place. I often go with the family. I have to admit it, I usually wait until we get some coupons in a mailer or something like that but we always have a nice experience when we go. Without the coupons it’s a bit pricey for what you get, but overall I think this place is just fine. Once we were there and they were projecting a «Journey Live From Japan» concert on the wall from like 1982. That rocked. Just thought I’d mention that. Sushi quality is what you’d expect — good, perfect for a «fix» but not stellar. Modern sushi was invented as fast-food, so in some ways this place is authentic…

Great fix! Just the right price and I know I’m not paying for the fancy date-night sushi décor. The staff is very friendly, too. Don’t expect much in the way of dine in — it’s almost like a mini school cafeteria. However, the sushi is decent, the sauces are really good, and the feature of delivery is outstanding.

Cheap… as in inexpensive. But definitely NOT in taste or quality! Even with my husbands dietary restrictions — no cucumber or avocado, they were able to make his crab roll(aka California roll, no cucumber or avocado) really well. We discovered this place last year when doing a little weekend getaway at La Costa. We’ve been there twice and both times the quality and service was great! The one time we went at the appropriate dinner time and it did take a little longer to get our food — there were a lot of people coming in and picking up orders. But we would DEFINITELY eat there again… we miss it! We hope to get back there again soon!

Yum. First of all. Second, say what you want — but the service was fantastic, cheerful, and far from«dude, bro». The prices are great for sushi, and the lunch specials — dope. They also have a changing menu of a few«specialty rolls» for when you wanna try something that includes eel, spicy tuna, crab AND tempura shrimp. Buttah. Basically, I’m going to be eating sushi for lunch more often. And maybe, most likely, I’ll be swinging by to pick up some take out for dinner on occasion. Restaurant, not so much as sushi deli style. Affordable, fresh and tasty. Well made sushi for those of us who want the fish, and teriyaki(insert meat here) for those with more of a bento box bent. This is the kind of place to go when you’re on your lunchbreak, when you need sushi carryout asap, or want to have sushi delivered so you can drink happy at home.
