DO NOT USE!!! we have dead plants everywhere and a sprinkler system which has caused issues from day one, but was told numerous of times that they would fix it… never happened! The whole project was under a warranty well we now have dead plants everywhere, a sprinkler system which causes noises throughout the house and has blown the regulators off twice and a drainage system which has never been completed and every time it rains the one whole side of our yard floods.
We went with John due to other reviews we saw and his professionalism during the design process. We started having issues during the second half of the instillation with workers not showing up, but John assured us that we would be fine. They then fired there lead worker in the middle of the job and he was the one who was working on the sprinkler and drainage system. We called John every other day for 3 weeks on his cell phone and office number. No one answered us or called back. We finally gave up and figured we got screwed. We finally got word last month that he moved up north and went out of business here.
My husband and I are both military and we don’t roll in money, so for us having to pay again for this work is extremely frustrating and financially painful.

I needed to follow up my initial review (which was very positive) based on my additional experiences with Total Outdoors. If you are confident with the initial installation and never need them to come back and follow up you might be fine — I had some issues and got exactly 0 follow up from them on the following items:
1) Noticed that I was charged for a vacuum breaker installation that was never performed. I inquired about this and never got an answer if it was actually necessary or not or a refund.
2) Front yard ground cover was a failure — never could get established (even after paying them to do the maintenance on it). Was told we could come up with an alternative, but nothing has happened.
3) They canceled the maintenance contract I signed up for, but I still got charged for a full month of service the last month when they only came out once. Still haven’t received a refund as promised for this months later.
Not sure if they just grew too fast as a company and couldn’t keep up with work, but the post installation experience has been a disappointment.

I’ve been working with John and Total Outdoors as a freelance landscape designer for over a year now, and have had extremely positive experiences across the board. John’s leadership through client interaction and guidance in the field is inspiring, his crews are very knowledgeable and friendly, and the finished products more than exceed my expectations as a designer with a very discerning eye for detail.

John Kennedy and his team from Total Outdoors transformed my front yard from an eyesore to a beautiful, natural landscape that I am extremely happy with. From design to implementation, I was informed of every step and the work went quickly and as planned. When there were a few things I wanted to change, they happily made it happen. The team that worked on site were very pleasant and polite and the work area was always kept clean. I recommend them highly.
